Gone and done it!!!!

If you paid sub stock SMF prices for it, you could probably re-sell it for a small profit...

And it's not really a "fake" from the sound of it... when i hear fake I think cheapo chinese version... sounds like it is a real SMF, just not a real custom... depending on how the auction was worded... if it was billed as a "Mick Strider SMF Custom" or something, and never says "this is a customized SMF that I modified" then he should let you return it because that is very deceiving...

Your best course of action would be to return it for a full refund.
Put your money toward a legitimate warranteed Strider for your first SMF.

It will do the seller a back-handed kind of good to learn he has to be upfront about a knife -- what it is, what its history is, what he's really selling.

It is not a bad-looking mod. If he did that for his own personal carry, or for someone who contracted with him to mod one for them like that. But it isn't good for you to have to find this out after the fact.

He just sent me a return email and said I didn't need to worry about the Strider warranty as he would repair or replace anything concerning the knife. Now I'm just torn with the fact that I've paid $700 for a base floor knife maker’s work. Just stressing a little for sure!

Once you've got the knife and he's got the money, you can go whistle for repairs.

You can get a better deal than that on an SMF you won't have to worry about.

$700 is alot of money for that knife. Too much, IMO. If you have the option of backing out I would do it and try to grab a nice used SMF off the forum for $350 to $375. Then you can get your feet wet with Strider and get all your money back if you decide to flip it down the line. Getting into that knife at $700 you are going to take a beating on the resale!

Yeah that's for sure, if I don't really love it I'm stuck!

$700 is NUTS! An SMF that isn't customized or modded by Mick or Duane is worth less then the standard SMF price tag of $500, unless this guy's work is known and respected by the knife community, (Tom Krein, STR, ect..) I only say this because reselling it will be very hard for you...

Yeah I know, I'd take a complete BEATING!!!!

The sellers other knife that was similar to the one I purchased sold for $630. Wander if the buyer has any idea what he got?

Looks like a legitimate Strider that's been customized. I agree with your intuition to return the knife for a refund and either get a production Strider or even a legit custom one. Nice looking mod and all, but I wouldn't trust the seller's "warranty", especially since he wasn't completely up front to begin with- if I understand the situation correctly.

I just should have done a lot more homework before purchasing a line of knives that I had no experience with!! I was just excited about finally purchasing a Strider and for it to be a custom was more than I could take.

Good lesson. Now go get your money back!

You have to do your homework all the time, but especially when you're stoked. Don't sell the knife to yourself, make the seller justify your purchase.

I'm just going to have to see how eBay translates his discription. I'm not going to get my hopes up till they put money in my bank. With all the emails I've sent and received from the seller it's quiet clear he's not going to part with my money without a fight.

Yeah I would return that....violating striders warranty at twice the price is not worth it. I picked up an SMF for $350 it was about 98% condition wise, you paid twice as much. You could get a SNG and an SMF WITH warranties for what you paid if you just look around.

Yeah but I wasn't looking for a production Strider. From what I've read the fit and finish lacks a little to be desired with the production pieces and the custom work is usually flawless. I'm kind of picky about stuff so I'm not sure I'd be happy with a cookie cutter piece.

jdboy, the CUSTOM work is usually flawless. What you bought is CUSTOMIZED -- aftermarket modified. No reason to expect it to match a custom piece by an experienced knifemaker, especially when it was misrepresented and overpriced.

Yeah you’re right about that. I really hope eBay looks at things the way we are. I guess if they do I'll have to spend a little more money and buy the real deal from a reputable dealer. Should have known!!

Sorry, I didn't mean that I was expecting it to be up to a Strider Custom as far as that goes. I meant that I thought I was buying an authentic Strider Custom.

There is a few threads on Strider's forum about this guy. He was also selling fake Starlingear beads. He was banned from that forum.

So it's very obvious that he knows what he's doing is wrong without question! I really hope eBay can understand where I'm coming from with this!!!
