Good Deal on a Small B.O.B or Pack w/Pics

After reading the reviews for this pack on CTD, seems a few didn't like the small size, but I'm thinking that it'll be just about perfect for my needs. Replace the flimsy zipper pull tabs with something more substantial, attach my USGI poncho, fill it with goodies and it should be good to go.

What is CTD?

And I'd still love to see pictures of this attached... anyone? Doesn't have to be the Miller Girls.

I find Target and Walmart sell much better bags under the realm of book bags, or school packs, JMHO, but I like to be able to sling it over my shoulder and it carries more, with less work and less attraction of attention

I can assure you that this bag is MUCH better built than anything I have ever seen at Wal-Mart. And by the way, if you will notice, it does have a shoulder strap.

I went ahead and ordered one, they just look too handy and too much like what I've been looking for! I will post a note about how it works out.

I also picked up one of their $10 GI-type ponchos, since I've been looking for something decent to keep around. I'm hoping it's good enough to use for a tarp shelter, too.

Thanks again for the heads up on this product.

Sellers on ebay have both the shoulder & belt carry bags, as well as the maxpedition proteus bags. I'll definintely be ordering one of the CTD bags, but if I like it, I'll also get the Proteus version down the road sometime.

I got one of these at the local surplus store, and was pleasantly suprized by the construction; fairly rugged, for what it is. No, it's not "Maxpedition" tough, but for the price, it really isn't all that bad. I needed something for a car kit, as I own a '93 Jeep Cherokee Sport, and if you know anything about them, the have zero storage space; glove box, and under the back seat, and that's it. This bag fits nicely under one side of the back seat storage area along with a Cold Steel Spetznazt shovel. So basically, it will be unused untill an emergency, and then I think it should hold out, although I was thinking about using some "stitch glue" or whatever you call that stuff you seal thread with.
I have just purchased two more and am in the process of making survival kits for two women I know who travel by car quite a bit.
One of the better inexpensive items I have found in a while.

Good for you bowieman. These women friends that you're helping out?

Have you tested your kit by taking it out into the bush and using it as if you were in a survival situation? I checked mine out over the course of a few days. I ended up replacing the bag I was using for something a little bigger that would hold a rolled up jacket and poncho. Also, I ended up replacing a couple pieces of gear that either didn't work or broke during that time.

I have taken the kit out for a brief excursion, as I try to do with gear I get that is meant to be used. It is o.k.. The problem, as you have pointed out, is the size; it somewhat limited in that aspect. Since I am dealing with limited space in my Jeep, and I stress the word limited, there is not much more room to stow stuff, but I have found that I can get my GI poncho, cold weather pants and top, and a beanie( it's really a "watch cap" folks!) into a butt pack and cram it into the other side of the back seat storage area, thus, with my "duce" gear (pistol belt & harness) I have it all available, and wearable. The only thing left for me to get to round out the system is a GI 5-quart water bladder. I allready have a Camelbak, in case you were wondering why the 5-quart. It seems to be an excellent wat to get water mobile; doesn't need it's own "carrier" i.e. pack, plenty of attatchment points, and as you take water out of it, you can roll-up the bag, and it stores very small when empty.

Yeah, I thought the bladder looked pretty awesome as well. I wouldn't mind a smaller size though.

I got my CTD order today and took some pics.

Here's what I had in/on there:

Wool Socks
Poncho
Mag block/ferro rod, mini Bic, half piece of Fire Stick
Space blanket
LED headlamp
First aid: (bandaids, gauze pad, ACE bandage, Neosporin, IB, acetominophen, aspirin, Benadryl, iodine tabs)
Mirror
Gloves
Long sleeve shirt
550 cord
DEET
Mini Mag Lite
Bandana
Chewy granola bars
and Keys, because they poke me when I carry them in my pocket. :)
(I forgot to add my zipper-pull compass from my other rig)

There was a little room left in some of the pockets, and the clothing could have been compressed more. I think one of the reviews at CTD mentioned the zippers failing, so I'd be cautious of over-stuffing. There are still plenty of external attachment points to lash on extra pouches or such.

I can see why they ripped off the Proteus. :D It's a pretty handy piece of kit, but it still leaves me with having to figure out how to carry my handgun, digicam, and extra dog water.

Nice, thanks for the pics. It gives a good idea of size and capabilities.

sweet, i ordered the tan one as well, plus the fatboy versipack ripoff that was $8. thanks for the pics, very reassuring.

Nice pack. I keep mine filled with my survival essentials. It is clipped with malice clips on top of my regular backpack. I can detach it when I want to use it for short hikes.

For those interested, Majors surplus (not connected in anyway) here in California has deployment bag that measures 25% larger than the standard deployment bag.

These are the bags I am refering to.
In fact, I picked them up at Major Surplus ( one of the better stocked surplus stores in this area)
I gave one of the survival kits I was talking about to the woman friend of mine as a birthday gift yesterday.
She likes it, and all the gear inside, and stated that it would make a great camera bag.
Inexpensive enough to give her another one for X-Mas:thumbup:
