Good edc blade for school

First off, let me say: my state/county/city/school specific rules stare that I can carry a knife as long as the blade is 2.5" or shorter. I researched for at least a month before I decided that this was the case (I looked up and read in detail the laws cited in the code if conduct for my school). Also, Georgia rules for letting knives be at school. Now, because I am not allowed to carry a backpack at school (stupid rule) and my zip up binder has limited space after the stuff for 7 classes, I don't carry scissors. However I find a need frequently for a cutting tool for things such as paper and poster board for projects, opening packages of pens/pencils (yay blister packaging) and things of that nature. Currently I use some no name lockback with a 1.5" blade and crap plastic handles, the issue is that I have sausage fingers and find the handle very uncomfortable. Also it is dull, and WILL NOT hold an edge. I'm looking to start an organized edc and would like to start with a quality knife that is of the legal size for school.

NOTE: doesn't have to be a folder.

In before the lock! Get a karambit, I hear they are quite useful, just kidding!

A BM Aphid should accommodate your needs nicely

Not sure why you say before the lock... It isn't like I'm asking anything illegal... Anyway, I will have to check that one out.

That's terrible that you cant carry a backpack! I would go with a traditional knife, like a Case Peanut or something like that.

My biggest issue is finding quality with a sub 2.5" blade most are just novelty knives.

+1. No need for anything intimidating.

What's your budget? There are some real nice small knives that go up very high in cost. A BM 707 has a 2.95" blade, so I would pass on that one.

I would also recommend a traditional, even though I'm not into them, for ease of use. I think they wouldn't be viewed in a negative light in your setting.

I actually own a case peanut... Got it from a friend, would have to clean off the rust...

My budget would be around $40... I had looked at the spyderco cricket and found them on ebay at around $40 but I'm not sure how the blade shape would be taken... It looks "scary"

Edited out...

I thought you were in college not high school. As a parent of school age'd kids myself and a child of the 90's I'm not comfy even suggesting knives that fit your needs knowing you plan to carry at school. I've never met a child (even the most mature/well versed/straight-A honor student) who could interpret written law like a prosecutor can.

You need to do more research kid, even if you're totally sure your right, you need to cover your six on this one, then cover your three, nine and twelve just to be sure.

They are great knives. If the rust won't come off, I would even suggest buying a new one. Mine got me into traditional's and its one of my favorite knives :)

I like the spydercos, read good things about some of them, heck I even looked at a dragonfly but they are way out of the price range of a high schooler with no job...

Also, I'm looking to find other stuff for an organized edc... Currently I have the crappy little knife, a Gerber solstice (great for paper not for anything else cutting wise) and a mini maglight that is ancient...

Another good spyderco option is the Pingo. Really comfortable, interesting and non-threatening design. 2.35" blade, good steel and just within your price range.

I would go with a traditional or a spyderco ladybug. It's unbelievable you can't carry a backpack. This is a college and no backpacks?

High school...

Looks nice, though I would personally prefer a lock mechanism of some sort...

Spyderco Cat...2.48 inch blade...weight 2.5 ozs...very decent 440C steel...G10 scales...within your price range this little knife is hard to beat. Great wire clip too. Too bad they don't make it with FRN scales.
