Good edc blade for school

Hello sir, I just want to be the fist to welcome you to BFC and to say I have no hard feelings in the least. I respect your position as a peace officer and your more than welcome to disagree with me, that's the beauty of this wonderful country.

I understand what your saying, I did read more into the GFSZA and I also see the only federal knife laws are on "switch blades/ballistic knives" and the transportation of them (and knives on airlines). I was only trying to say that the reason you may not find a local/state law [about anything] is because a higher level covers that topic and there's no reason for redundancy.

Again thank you for your work as a LEO, welcome to our home and no hard feelings. Trust me I would never try to talk anyone out of carrying a knife, this is bladeforums afterall, just trying to urge the kid to be as absolutely thorough as possible to protect himself.

I will say that when my kids reach high school they will not be the ones doing the research/making the decisions as to wether or not they can carry a knife of any size in school, that will be my wife and I making the decision based on what we find, since afterall we're the ones that would be footing any legal defense bills.

Thanks for the welcome, it is truly appreciated! I also couldn't agree more in the fact that in this day in age, you can't be diligent enough in checking out things like this. That's why I said I respect and understand your apprehension, because in matters such as this you can't be careful enough.

There of course are no hard feelings nor was my intention in my last post to suggest that I harbored any. I look forward to enjoying and engaging in more discussions.

ETA: Lol btw no need to call me sir, my username is fine or you can call me Tommy, but sir make me feel old, my god I'm only 30.

Cool, its nice when a discussion can be simply that, a discussion, people are aloud to disagree. The important thing is instead of having it out with each other we both continued to contribute to the topic at hand offing differing opinions on the subject.

30!, man your ancient! I'm only 26. No just kidding, my wife's 30 so hopefully she doesn't stop in this thread and see that comment lol, your CPD counterparts would have a murder to investigate.

This might be a little different, but the Leatherman Style PS doesn't even have a knife, but it does have scissors. I've carried mine through airports many times.

Otherwise,
Opinel No. 4 or 5
Vic Classic
Leatherman Style
Leatherman Squirt
Kershaw Shuffle
Kershaw Chive
Kershaw Scallion
Spyderco Dragonfly

Course, personally I'd find myself either a slipjoint of some sort, like mentioned in this thread, or a kiridashi.

If you can definitely have a blade then I'd say a leatherman Squirt. A SAK classic is great but the blade is kinda weak and awkwardly positioned near the key ring. Its too bad they don't make a SAK that only has the smaller pen blade for instances like this or on an air plane.

I can have a blade, and as someone who enjoys collecting knives, I would prefer to have another, but if anyone knows if something different that would still get the job done I would totally be open to it.

Hey kid I'm not trying to be hard on you, just trying to be thorough. If you'll post what state/county/city/school district your in I'll be able to look up and site specific's. I'm sitting here with my wife and she's also looking up laws, if it turns out to be legal I'll be the first to tell you.

I'm in the forsyth county district of Georgia, more specifically I'm at West Forsyth High.

In the definition of "Weapon." More precisely, it says "two or more inches..." So, to be legal, the blade has to be less than 2" in length.

Just to reiterate... HappyDaddy has the correct answer... Georgia Statutes and Codes states very clearly a 2" blade (or more) is classified as a weapon, and may not be carried in a school zone, school functions, etc, etc. Regardless of what your principal may have told you, you carry at your own risk.

What a world we live in. No trust or belief that a Civilian (school student included) could ever have a use for something pointy or sharp other than for criminal intents and yet Public Servants tasked with enforcing these escalating idiot rules are increasingly more armed to the teeth. I am a 'baby boomer' and innocently grew up with pocket knives as being downright handy and regularly played 'stretch' in the school yard with them. Now my generation has chosen to restrict/prohibit anything and everything that used to involve rite of passage growing up, learning to make yourself useful and first hand experiencing risk/responsibility. This era of CYA (cover your donkey) is truly sad.

Hey, go big or go home. Get a machete. Just kidding.
Someone mentioned a Buck 55. It's a great little knife. Here's the only pic I have of mine. It's going to be my little boy's when he's old enough. Classic and non threatening

I wish there were no restrictions... Then I would just carry my CRKT badger like I do everywhere else... Seems to me if it isn't dangerous everywhere else it isn't dangerous just because it is at school.

Yeah I'll be completely honest I just keep a razor blade in my wallet during a school day and that's really all I need, just a suggestion, it works for me but idk what you need to cut. Plus if you think you're gonna get caught with it and get kicked out those little blades are super easy to hide or dump

So you do all this research, even go as far as to ask the principal through email, but then delete the email? Forget the knife issue, this will be by far the best lesson you learn here. Never delete an email like that. It's called a paper trail. Thinking about carrying a knife at school I thought was a bad idea. No backpacks at school I thought was made no sense. Then deleting the one paper trail email that could get you off the hook if you did run into a problem? That one planted my hand firmly on my forehead with a smack....

that's awesome...both the pic, and the fact that youre saving a fantastic knife for your son when hes ready for it.

I've decided to open my horizons to something like my Gerber solstice, only bigger, so as to completely bypass the blade length requirements.

I'd echo the small traditional folder suggestions, perhaps a Case Soduster, definitely an Opinel.

For more modern, I think a Cold Steel Tuff Lite folder is in your price and size range. Hard for me to judge its "scariness" but to me it looks fairly tame.

I'm a teacher so there's a little more "adult leeway" with my carry options though.

I like the spydercos, read good things about some of them, heck I even looked at a dragonfly but they are way out of the price range of a high schooler with no job...
