Ok so if i was a cop, what would be the best knife for me? it needs to be tough. id be using it to do all kinds of things so it would have to have good grip too. what knife would be best? any zt or kershaws out there?

There are literally TONS of knives you could use. Honestly you're going to need to be a little more specific about what size and blade shape you're looking for, your price range, and what you'll be using it for.

My suggestions as of now are
- Spyderco Native
- Spyderco Manix 2
- ZT 0350
- ZT 0550
- Emerson model of your choice
- Benchmade Griptillian
- Benchmade Triage
- Kershaw JYD II

I could probably name a few more, but we'll see what else people throw out there.

UMNUMZAAN.

S30V. TITANIUM HANDLES. FRAME LOCK. GLASS BREAKER.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

Just kidding. 00ChevyScott is right, there are literally tons of knives that would work. Its all depends on the user.

ZT 0550 for sure. Super comfortable to open with or without gloves on, take a great edge and holds it for a long time. Also very comfortable to use and seems to be the perfect size.

I would prefer a small fixed blade. IF you ended up having to use it in self defense, the less you have to do the better.

Although, knowing police officers and how many abuse their knives, you probably want something robust, something with a Tanto style blade.

Most of the cops I know use sub $100 knives. The knives get sweaty wet, dropped in the mud/ gravel/ asphalt, and cops have the ability to destroy any gear in record time if they didn't loose it first. It's just not a job for an expensive knife. Their tac vests are different but what stays clipped in their uniform is usually a mid sized inexpensive folder.

I agree with looking at it as something that may get lost/destroyed. Personally, I'd get something like a Kershaw Tremor, JYD II or go for a Cold Steel Voyager or Recon 1.

Having been a NYC LEO I must agree with a few above...Inexpensive folder for normal duty and a leatherman or other good tool/knife. Rarely if ever do you consider a knife as a weapon when your an officer with a pistol, mace, baton and possible taser ...a knife could come in as a SD weapon, but it is far down the list. It will more likely be used for normal cutting use and the chance of it being lost and or borrowed and not returned are great....

I personally carry a Cold Steel Lawman full size. Tough as nails and won't break the bank if I were to loose it.

last time i ordered from a normal site like <deal spot> they sent me an off brand product when i payed for the original brand who makes them. do you guys know of a good site with a good rep? who will send me the product as it was advertized? thanks in advance.

I've never had a problem with knives from <deal spot>. You have to make sure you're buying from <deal spot> and not some random 3rd party seller. Other good sites are <deal spot>, gpknives, newgraham, the-knife-connection, 1sks, bladehq, and the exchange here is really great especially if you want new or used, usually at a discount.

kershawguy is a favorite of many, he frequents the Kershaw forum often. Google him, fast shipper.

Well I would say a Spyderco Police just because of the name, do not own one though. Does anyone have one or know why this model is called Police? If not specially made for law enforcement at least you know you will get a large quality folder.
