Civivi Riffle in wood and DamascusI recently made a friend who once I got to talking about his watch and my knives, he mentioned he switches it out every day, was like, I do the same with my knives!
Anyways he offered a watch to me at some point, asked me what I like and I referred to the classic look, elegant and such because I am currently rocking just a G-shok
I offered him a knife, asked what he likes, and wood handles + elegance/timelessness/classic vibe to it. I do not want to give some crazy super steel, but a good and beautiful starter knife.
My mind keeps drifting to the Opinel in Walnut, the 6 or the 8, probably. Lionsteel Gitano also passed my mind, but was afraid the strong slipjoint spring would be a hassle. Anyone got any additional ideas to consider? Thanks
Again, seeking a relatively easy to sharpen steel, wood handles and a classic, elegant look.
Oh and I intend to throw in a SAK, just like a Classic or something.
Heh. With all due respect, you can guess the rest. Godspeed, “classy” expat.…they were very popular with the leather and Harley crowd, which isn't anybody's idea of class. (I can't see one without the soundtrack for YMCA running through my head.)
Good point. I think a edc of some sort with a pocket carry sheath would be a good idea. A new knife person may be too uncomfortable with belt carryDid the OP specify a folder anywhere?
If not, how about one of these beautiful Joker knives with curly birch handles? They comes with beautiful leather sheaths also. They look and perform like a million bucks without breaking the bank. Made the old school way in Spain. I’ve given Jokers as gifts before and everyone is always thrilled

Buck makes a good knife. I've owned dozens of them, different models, over the years. But the single blade patterns suffer from several things; first, they have been copied by everyone from Spain, to Japan, to Pakistan, and everybody knows this. So the perception is the knife you have is a cheap POS, because Joe Public isn't going to be able to tell the difference. Second, they were very popular with the leather and Harley crowd, which isn't anybody's idea of class. (I can't see one without the soundtrack for YMCA running through my head.) Use them if you got them, but if you're going to actually go "custom" get a Lanny's Clip from a reputable maker (there are plenty on this forum) and crawl out of the 1970's.
My experience as well.I’ve given a bunch of Buck 110s (and 119s!!) as gifts. Every one of those folks got real wide-eyed and happy because they just got a REAL BUCK KNIFE!!!
Nobody has sneered and chucked the knife down a storm drain yet!
Here is a small wood Laguiole as an example. Wife bought this one for me at a local store, came in a very nice leather sheath:

Here is a custom one that I had made

(go to the website for Couteau Laguiole Actiforge and you can pick steel, handle material, etc.; takes ca. two weeks to be delivered)
BTW, is automatic an option ?

If yes, google Bill DeShivs, he's a member here, BTW.
F the folder, that fixed blade handle tho (whole knife really)I'm not familiar
Oof. Hella nice! Thanks! Thanks ! The top one is a "Big Boy" from Miro (https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/big-boy-sold.1894561/), the bottom one is a CPK FK1 (but you knew that, I bet).
Cheers,
Roland.
