Good wood handle knife that is classy as a gift

Don't worry. We saw the cute edit. Boxers or briefs? Depends. But, my guess is it may also be the bike's tank that causes the stoppage on a long trip. Then again, maybe my BMWs just didn't vibrate enough. I suspect this is drastically OT, though. Shhh. Don't tell the principal.

Get a single cylinder.

Nobody ever complained about a KLR not vibrating enough.

And briefs all day. The long Lycra ones that are anti chafe.

He does want a folder - he showed me a PRC Old Timer stockman as something he thought was cool. Not wood though, he knew it wasn't "it".

I think a traditional single or multi blade. He also told me he is German. So, I have narrowed it down to a small wooden backlock or multi-blade Buck (if Buck likely a nice wood backlock because not a lot of other options) or a Solingen Boker slipjoint.

I don't know Boker, what would you guys say are the best options (folding single blade locker or multi blade trad with pretty wood and functional sharpenable blades)? Also any unexpected Buck recs?

Sorry boys, only got one GEC, the new BF one and that bad boy is mine. But a SAK comes with it automatically because that feels weird to give a new knife guy a knife without a SAK too. Classic is enough, maybe with some funky scales? Or should just do a 91mm two layers (because my 74s are too rare :( or I would give an Executive)

Also got a beautiful Japanese watch, he admitted getting it secondhand but said he looked for quality. Will post a pic in a sec.

110 is too big and too much knife to edc for a guy who's new to knives. A 55 would be a much better choice. Or a Squire or a Prince. Elegant classic great carry knives, any of the three.
That's the thing - if you're a knife guy and you know what it is and you want a 110... Then happy birthday Christmas brother. But I can't give a new guy a 7oz knife, beautiful as it is. He might get judged for the large clip point too which I would hate to turn him off.

Can I ask what Squire and Prince are?

I like the 501 for pocket carry (without the clip sheath). The 55 and 503 are smaller and even easier in the pocket.

Here is the Larrin version of the 501 with ebony and Magnacut.

Or, for a bit fancier, here is the BCCI LE 501 with Elk and Magnacut.

For multi blade, the Buck 301 Stockman and 303 Cadet may work. In this comparison, my 303 is the DymaLux Rosewood while my 301 is the Black Valox. (There is some grain in the rosewood, but it's a bit hard to see in this image.)

I think you're on the right track with Boker. There are some gorgeous wood handled options. I lean toward the barlows personally, they're a nice watch pocket carry and very classy. These are just a few examples.

Perhaps then a German knife is in order.

Böker, be sure to get one made in Solingen, not just Germany.

Otter Messer.

A big thing about this is making sure it is quality, so I will definitely be keeping it to proven Solingen brands if I get a German knife. What is that Otter? I love my K55 but have not had a lot of exposure to the others, just the sailor knife, but that one... Is it a folder even? Looks gorgeous. I see it is a folder now, but jeez, looks insane. Not wooden so not a candidate for him but I want that for me!

I think it is just the wide reaching base of their knives and manufacturers (I have a very old and nice Boker Tree penknife, a XL AK47 auto, and a Taiwanese OTF collab under the Boker name) but I think i had an unfair skepticism - one of these Bokers may be the answer - these are just gorgeous. Hope they are readily available. Trying to shoot for under $100~ or that much at most.

How big are those compared to a 110 or 112? Also looks like the smaller two would be really cutting down on the weight of it all while being still a knife with grip and "the look" of this series.

Yours are stunning by the way, really, wow.

So, it seems the good Bokers are out of price range. Going to go with a 55 or Squire 501, looks like it has ample hand room, right?

Really wish I could get the combo of Ironwood and brass. Might add an oz. But still, those are just simply more beautiful! Very elegant. This and a SAK will be perfect.

It's hard to know what hand room is ample for someone else; too many variables. What you could do is look at the stats for closed length vs the hand width of whoever will be holding it. That should help you decide if something is wide enough for them. Here is my example of some of these. I wear a large size glove, but have slender fingers. For me, I can hold the 55 and 503 okay, but half of my pinky isn't on the handle. I'm not sure how your definition of ample would fit with that. By comparison, with the 501, I have about 1/4" between the edge of my pinky and the end of the handle.

That is a Drei Nieten Messer or Three Rivet Knife. The knife in the picture does indeed have a wooden handle. Otter Messer is a small manufacturer in Solingen that makes a variety of knives as well as the K55 Merkator. They are a bit hard to find in the US, which in my opinion, adds to the cool factor.
