Got my M4 Wharcliffe Sebenza Blade!!! Pics included!

Hey SteelSnob,

On page 1, 4th picture down. Is that how the blade looks to the naked eye or is it magnified? It has wicked striations in the scratch pattern. Did Chris Reeves make that blade or someplace else and you installed it??

I'm not making light of your knife SS but I'm just curious about how it all came together. :)

Yeah, right......

I bet everybody from Hinderer to Strider are rethinking their no-hump designs thanks to your brilliant insight.

Face it, it's damn ugly.

Only reason they don't "rethink their no-hump designs" is because Spyderco already has that market! ;)

So much loathing. :D

I'll admit.. I'm a hole hater, but a functionality lover, so I see it as hideous and beautiful.

Modifying knives is a huge part of going into the deep end of knife nuttery. I hope that blade serves you well.

The hump on spyderco knives as well as this one is very functional. Regardless of the fact that a lot of people hate
the hump, it greatly contributes to to the ergonomics of the knife enough so that people who have used spydercos to work with have chosen to disregard the looks in favor of their high functionality.

Some people just can't live with the looks of spyderco's hump which is too bad because those knives feel very good in the hand.

Looks like a better Spyderco with a better handle.
Better blade, better lock, and yes better handle (titanium with inlays.)

It does however now look more Spyderco than Chris Reeve.

Spyderco in general have always been described as terrible looking on their own by a lot of people due to the function over form principles applied to their manufacture.

Your well thought out creation may offend a lot of Spyderco and Chris Reeve fanboys so you will be taking hits from both sides of the fanboy clubs.

The more rational can see this is one winning combination.

I agree completely! I like both spyderco and CR knives and I think that this might be the best of both worlds! Congrats on a nice blade!

The blade looks pretty heavy, does the detent still work good. I forgot to ask is this a large or small Sebenza ? As long as you got what you wanted thats all that counts.

Check out the first page. All the info on it is there.

Chase Axin of Chax Knives. Incredible to deal with and he did a great job.

This is the guy that did the blade I assume, as there's no other info in that post or than a Seb 21.

Anyway, I dig wharncliffe style blades and everyone's going nuts about the Ritter M4 Grip. So you got a Sebenza with a wharncliffe blade in M4.

The best of all worlds my man - no wonder your username is SteelSnob! :D

Yep, that's darn fulgy looking.

But M4? RIGHT ON!

How's the opening and closing action now? Still butter smooth?

Pics of the lock up too, please when you retake the pics with a better camera.

I like the idea, and M4 is a treat. I can't help thinking that with a true wharncliffe shape and a smaller/moved upwards hole it would slim the blade down while still keeping all the improvements. Cool idea!

More pics..
Its very interesting..
I just think the hole should have been a bit closer to the finger groove..

I'm tempted to have a blade made for my large tanto sebenza but I guess I worry about tolerances and the smooth action... fear that in trying to improve my seb I'll lose what I love about it

Personally, I'm not a fan of that shape. But I'm sure its exactly what you wanted, so props to you good sir!

If it truly is as smooth and tight as a true seb, I might be in contact with that maker to see what all we can come up with....

Also. Just got a Gayle Bradley... while the seb handle is far from perfect its miles closer to what I like than the Bradley. They told me I'd get over the looks once I held it. Idk [shrug] I wasn't impressed.

I know this is an old thread but that looks like a killer work knife. I'd love to have one like it.
