Got wood? Part Deux.

You'll be forgiven if you don't recall part one - as it was a question I posed to the forum a decade ago in an attempt to get some idea of which woods were most favored by forum members.

This is a different take, however. Recent postings from Buddy Thomason on this Fisk bowie with a stunning (not to mention historic!) Chestnut handle:

And by STeven of his lovely Zowada puuko withe fiery Redwood burl:

.... have called to mind why wood remains my fave of all handle materials. Endless variety in colour and figure, and easily shaped to whatever design fits the aesthetic and ergonomic ideals of the maker.

So I'd like to see some examples of what YOU think are really FIRST RATE examples of wood in a knife application (sounds like a category for the Oscars - and I might actually watch if it were!)

Doesn't need to be your knife. Doesn't need to be a fancy knife. Just needs to be your idea of some awesome wood.

Here are a few of mine:

Poplar on a Lurquin Tsavo:

Feather crotch walnut that was used on the Mojo camp knife made by Dan, Matt and myself:

Koa on a David Wesner takedown camp knife:

And on a Stuart Branson bowie:

Let's see some of yours, please!

I think I'm a sucker for any wood with a feathered or curly pattern to it... I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

And while I was picking some of my favorites I couldn't help noticing... Sam Lurquin picks killer wood for every blade! Every handle he does in wood (that I've seen) is gorgeous.

Great idea, Roger, and I think Koa takes the prize. Here is a sharpfinger repro that I put some nice bookmatched walnut on.

I am a complete wood nut. I love woodworking and collect wood like Hanson collects mammoth. Keep it stacked in garage just waiting for something to do with it.

Have to say my favorite is figured Walnut (crotch, burl, curly). Here are couple others that I like.

My pics does not show the depth or chatoyance.

Honduran Rosewood:

Amboyna Burl:

Desert Ironwood:

I just received my first Curly Koa wood knife from Mike Quesenberry but haven't had time to take any photos. The chatoyance in that Koa is amazing.

Outstanding contributions gents! This is a parade of seriously primo lumber. And some really terrific knives. Here are some older pics:

STeven are you serious?? I was wondering where this thing went when I was ready and about to buy it last year!!

This is ironwood. It looks great on this knife but I prefer nice curly wood.

Here is my favorite snare drum. It was custom made with quilted Tamo Ash that looks amazing in person.

That one isn't mine, Jon. Mine is in Dr. Darom's book and has a different sheath, as well as different engraving on the buttcap, other than that, they are pretty much identical.
