First off I would like to say hello to some of my old friends here who have periodically inquired as to whether I fell off the face of the earth last year. The answer is no....but.....Eric, Kevin, Mike, Chuck, etc., etc., etc,.....and most of all the Jerrmiester......howdy...I hope you are all well, and thanks for your support during some very tough personal times!;)

I have been e-mailed periodically, by friends known and unknown to me from these forums, about the "GPB Sheaths". The GPB sheaths were made by a brother (read very close friend) whom I would like to formally recognize here for everyone's knowledge, and potential contact. Therefore, I have secured formal verbal permission from Jerry to make this announcement. Thank you very much Jerry, I sincerely appreciate it!;)

The GPB sheaths, named so for being introduced here through personal collection sales etc., are made from heavy stock Kydex and Concealex by Brian Wagner (known here on the forums as OKU). His new company "Okuden" can be reached via e-mail at okuden@earthlink.net. Brian was a custom designer for a very well known kydex sheath and holster manufacturer who gave us permission to pursue the custom sheath market. Unfortunately, our plans were thwarted last year by various personal circumstances totally unrelated to the products, or the industry.

The GPB sheaths were design idea collaborations between the two of us, but always brought to life by Brian. Most were structured as Drop Leg Rigs based upon their components, but all were designed to be mounted and worn a multitude of ways including IWB, OWB, Duty Belt Ambi, Dress Belt Ambi, Web Gear Uni, etc. The sheaths themselves are very unique for many reasons, the least of which not being that they were symmetrical, not asymmetrical. The materials were usually the heaviest Kydex, or Concealex available, and some included cammo patterns from woodland, to Advantage, to desert. Some were IWB concealment rigs containing no metal he made for some Busse Stealth Hawks. I am certain some of these designs will become pics in this thread and I very much apologize it was not possible to attach pics due to hardware failures. I know it seems rediculous not to have any to post here, but I am certain some of my pals will accomodate, and they will surface. Brians work must be seen, handled, and used to be appreciated. Many people from these forums who have purchased some of my personal Busse addict collection, have stated to me in one way or another that they are the best sheaths of their materials, they have ever seen, used, or owned. This is by far "not to say" others do not make great sheaths.

Brian himself is the REAL DEAL when it comes to accomodating some of this country's most elite SMALL units and operators. He has designed containment systems, sheaths and holsters for some of the most critical and sensitive equipment carried by our armed forces, not merely weapons. His work is truly in service the world over and includes designs to protect equipment, some of which he is at liberty, and not at liberty to discuss. Like Jerry, this is how Brian earns his living for his family, and not a hobby. Therefore, he takes his business very seriously whether you are a weekend warrior, collector, enthusiast, or one who stakes your life on your equipment!

I have absolutely no personal benefit or stake in providing this announcement, and am only doing so because a.) his work deserves the credit it has earned, and b.)I know if some of you allow him to design a rig for you, you WILL NOT be disappointed, and will thus be very glad this information was made available. Those of you who know me, likewise know my character and sincerity both personally, and here at the forums. Those of you who don't, may ask around and check with people like Eric, thatmguy, 1whobuys, and that total nutcase.....dare I even mention his name..... "STRABS"!:barf: ;) I purposely excluded Jerry himself because he gets enough inquiries each day and I would be doing him no justice augmenting it.

I am a "quality fanatic" about my gear, which is why I use Busse's. Jerry may chime in on that one because its just too inviting (he has gone way beyond necessity to accomodate some of my timetables and nuances). This desire for the best I could get is how I came to meet Brian, and demand his work for all of my needs.

I am certain Brian will provide further contact information either in this thread, or in response to your e-mail inquiries. Take a risk (not knowing him or his work), give him a chance, and I am certain you will NOT be disappointed.

Thank you again Jerry, and INFInite Nuclear Best Wishes to All of You!

Frank

Frank,
Good to hear from you.

I'm glad you stopped by and say "Hi"

I also appreciate the contact info you've provided for Brian.

For those who don't know Frank, or haven't dealt with him he is a stand-up guy and everything he has stated is definitely the truth.

The Sheaths Brian makes are outstanding.

I've included a picture of the Mr. Mojo sheath I have of his. If you have questions regarding this sheath I'd be happy to try and answer them.

And the backside, however as Frank stated it can be completely reversed so it can be worn easily on either side

Thanks Eric, I knew I could count on you. Of course....that's nothing new.

I did forget to mention that Brian's sheaths have a higher price point than you will be used to. Some find it acceptable, others not.
However, once you use one of his sheaths, you'll see why.

They are also made of a thicker stock than most are accustomed too.

Personally, I have always felt that an extraordinary blade, deserves an extraordinary sheath. I have never thought twice about paying for quality. I would caution though that these sheaths are for your keepers and your survival blades. They are not for your traders, or for a blade you think you might sell someday. That would make the investment a consideration.

Bite the bullet and get one. You won't regret it!

Thanks Eric!

Strabs where are you?

I've admired your sheaths for quite some time now! :D

What thickness kydex do you use mostly? Is there a website planned?

Very sweet sheaths man :D

coo-coo-coo! Good news, good news Boss!:D  :D

Thanks for the update Frank. It's great to see things are coming together!

I need to shoot Brian a few blades in the near future:cool: The new Badgers are screaming for some camo!!!

The material thickness, fit, and detail of these sheaths ROCK!

thanks Frank for the info. I spoke with Jerry and he can not say enough good stuff about this guys sheaths. I have seen some as well and can only say "wow" !!

Frank, glad this showed up man. Glad to see you at INDY too.

Brian's sheaths are sooo sweet man. The fit and finish is superb.

I had told Frank a while back that the assuring "CLICK" made when my blades are seated lets me know that all is secure.

I've got several of these sheaths. One (IWB) took a tumble with my fat a$$ down a hill. Not even loose.

My Advantage Camo SH-Badger sheath has generated a lot of interest among my local friends.

I am getting ready to send my SHSH-II and my MS out for some new clothes (drop leg like Erics for the SH, and an IWB TekLok "Frank" sheath for the Meany...) myself. Brian will get some business for sure.

I will try and get some pics up in the next day or so.

P.S. (Frank, I still owe you some beers man.)

Brother! really interested in pics of kydex 'Advantage' if anybody has them...

As 1whohateskydex, I own a few of these.

If it's not in a Kenny Rowe, it's in one of these.
The fit is superb without ripping the coating off of the knife.
Hang upside down, roll on the ground, wear it for 3 straight days..the knife is always there.

When the Machete' is completed, it might have to be dressed in one of these.
These sheaths will run more than most Kydex sheaths, but you'll see the quality as soon as you put your hands on it.

In all fairness..I have never tried any of the custom sheaths made by the makers that stop by here before.
I'm sure they are fine sheaths too, just made a little different.

A couple more for Gundy...;)

Holy cow! And a BIG thank you to Frank and all those posting pics on my behalf!!

I'll be happy to respond to inquiries via e-mail so as not to clog "Uncle Jerry's" forum.

A website is in the offing and may well feature some of the posted pics! Thanks again!

2 more quick things: 1) Sorry, the advantage pattern material has not been available for over a year. I believe that DESERT may still be available. The new WOODLAND pattern I have in stock, they even printed it on an OD substrate! I have not purchased any plain OD as the current pigment looks like neon pea soup (with sufficient interest and capital I may be able to order a special batch).

(OK.. that wasn't quick)

2) Drop leg rigs with "plate mounted" thigh straps are still available, but I have found that slot mounts are more versatile and easier to do (consequently less expensive). The Mini Mojo is representative of current thigh strap placement, we have found that the higher placement helps the knife to ride more comfortably.

Thanks again to all for your interest and support. I will e-mail a "canned info package" to all who request one ASAP. Remember, just because it isn't listed doesn't mean I can't build it, all inquiries are welcome.

Thanks a ton guys! From the bottom of my Steel Heart!

This guy deserves it, and it is loooooong overdue!

Mike, it would be great if you could get a pic of the Advantage rig up. Unless you sold it, and its in someones hands whom we shouldn't publicize at this time. Keep snappin' and watch for sappers Mike.

Quick explanation of the Thigh Strap Mounting Plates. They are used in lieu of slits made to the exterior of the blade footprint, as this weakens what has been designed as an ultra Heavy Duty Rig.

Everything on these rigs can be removed and replaced with a Tek Lok, IWB Strap, or other manufactured, and field fastening devices (i.e. paracord, twine, leather, sinew).

Obviously custom formed pouches can be made as well, but this is something Brian and I have never liked. Carry it somewhere else is merely our motto, not necessarily others, and we're not necessarily right! What works for you is what is best. Most of the blade related rigs he makes are high speed/low drag for lowest weight and mass. The rigs you have seen would all be jumpable with both a thumb strap and reversible handle strap, or duct tape, or....he has a secret little low bulk device that is very effective.;)

I'd be happy to answer any questions I am able.

Sorry Oku, we were posting at the same time. I knew you were making slits for other rigs. I just wanted them to know why these heavy rigs didn't have'em.

I'll shut up now.

Jerry, I now have clearance to tell the training story from our friend. I'll look for an e-mail from you.

Out.

Actually, Jerry won't mind. How's this for an INFI testimonial!

A buddy-o-mine is on his local PD Tac Team. The AI (After Incident) investigation is over and the story is now clear to be discussed.

During dynamic entry training he was accidently smacked by one of his team members with a .40, close range. Get this.....he was wearing his favorite Busse (old Badger 5/16") John Wayne Green Beret Style inverted on his vest in an Okuden rig. The .40 smacked the Busse and Okuden Sheath dead center of the blade profile. Ready for the finale.........

The sheath is cracked and I think has a hole from the last time I saw it, but the Badger sustained only slight coating removal, PERIOD!

Probably saved his life (I forgot to ask if he had his armor on), that is rest of the story Paul Harvey and it definitely taint no BS. Can anyone truly love their Busse as much as he must?

I'll get in touch with him and get a pic. He is not a forumite. Just one of the many who specifically demanded an Okuden rig for his biggest knife investment. What a Busse payback eh!

Out.

BTW Brian, he needs a new sheath (though the other still works) and I am sorry I had not told you this story yet.

Jerry was the only one who knew other than those involved until now and the investigation was just cleared recently.

UnINFIbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He just got married too!

Hey I just realized I'm basic again...did you forget to charge my card Spark?

You aren't the only one that knows the story...or seen the knife;)

And Yes, he does need a new sheath:D
