GRAYMAN SATU Folder!! A BEAST!!!

Getting one soon. Ti or G10 (or maybe CF?)

Give me pro/cons of each..

G10 is grippier than Ti?

Hey Striderco and other Grayman owners;
hopefully my SATU will arrive tomorrow morning. I need to know your detailed feedback on the factory "toothy" edge. I really can see it's usefulness, especially in particular survival situations, but also wonder if it's the most practical EDC edge. I don't live in Africa, and hardly have to practice survival techniques daily. In fact, I'm a pastor/reader-theologian who hardly gets to open mail with my knife (confession = good for the soul. Don't judge me)

SO, will the toothy wonder do the job, or will I need toput it on my paper wheels?

Don't worry about it at all.

I think the Grayman's probably get more grief out of posting that "toothy edge" thing on their site than it's worth. It stumps a lot of people; it's like a roadblock.

The only question anyone should have about purchasing a Grayman folder is whether they like the look. If anyone likes the look of the Graymans they should just buy it. There will likely be no quality or satisfaction problems whatsoever. IMO it's as well built as any knife out there.

If you call them they'll probably put any edge on it you like, if the 'toothy' thing is really getting to you.

Get your knife and enjoy it. I don't think you'll even notice what they call their 'toothy edge." And even if you do and don't like it, just re-sharpen the damn thing.

I recently acquired this Grayman Satu and it is a tank no doubt! I have hinderers and they may win in the practicality/fit and finish categories but in an apocalyptic scenario I'm grabbing this monster. Pics below, just had the custom lanyard made today by dawgknots (really nice guy).

Oh really??

I'm curious...can you expand on this superiority in practicality and F&F of the Hinderer over the Grayman Satu? I'd like to know what I missed in the Hinderers. I think Graymans are as good as anything out there.

And finally..... :)

...I wish I'd found this thread on page 1. While it might be too late for some who are on the fence regarding these knives to read this, here goes:

I am in total agreement with Striderco and others in here knowledgeable about Grayman folders---and just as evangelistic about them. Spread the word. I can't say enough good about mine. While there may be a company or two out there that can out-micrometer a Grayman by a click or two in some area of fit or tolerance on paper, I don't believe you'll find a tougher, more well built production knife. My Sebenza sits in a drawer; my Grayman is usually in my pocket.

I buy the Ti-ti's because what attracted me to the knives in the first place was the "slab titanium" look. I'm not a fan of the G-10's they've made available of late, but that's just me---I like the look of the naked knives. The G-10's will probably sell well though, for those who like that look, because the knives themselves are awesome.

The Grayman folders are classics...or soon to be anyway. I only pray they don't start offering "improvements," something that has been the death knell of so many good knife models.

"Don't screw with it, Mr. and Mrs. Grayman!" :) Or, if you do, please leave the basic models in the lineup too for us purists... They are perfect as is.

As I've often said in here, IMO the only "decision" for someone contemplating the purchase of a Grayman folder is, "Do I like the look of the knife?" If so, buy it. There are no other issues. Great, rugged knives and smooth as glass.

The only thing I would ask of them is to make a folder in between the Satu and the Dua. I love both of them, but the Satu is a little on the big side for me, and the Dua is a little too small. A 3.5" folder with similar blade shape and aesthetics would be just about perfect.

I totally agree with you buddy!! I have been thinking that for awhile! A nice 3.5 blade with enough handle to get a really good grip!! I will speak to Mike and Sue and see what they think! They have always seemed to be stuck in their ways but I think we did accomplish the edge change that Mike did! When I first got Graymans they only came with the "toothy" edge. I actually did a comparison between one with a toothy edge and a more conventional convex edge and the toothy edge actually performed as well and even better with certain materials! But I think they got sick of the emails and calls about the toothy edge they finally caved and started putting nice convex edges on their knives with the option still their with the toothy edge! The only downside I found to the toothy edge was resharpening it or touching it up like out in the field. You would need a nice grinder or the WE would prob do the job but if you tried to rid the toothy edge with a pocket stone you d be at it for days!! So long story short maybe we can convince them to do another folder?!! S**t they have enough variety of fixed blade monsters!!

I would like to see that too. I bet some day they cover that...the Grayman Tiga. Just don't change the design.

I saw in your original pictures you have a lionsteel SR1 sitting under your Satu. How would you compare the two? I'm currently looking for a large replacement EDC. Thanks :)
