GRAYMAN SATU Folder!! A BEAST!!!

Hey Striderco and other Grayman owners;
hopefully my SATU will arrive tomorrow morning. I need to know your detailed feedback on the factory "toothy" edge. I really can see it's usefulness, especially in particular survival situations, but also wonder if it's the most practical EDC edge. I don't live in Africa, and hardly have to practice survival techniques daily. In fact, I'm a pastor/reader-theologian who hardly gets to open mail with my knife (confession = good for the soul. Don't judge me)

However, off the radar, I'm a navy SEAL (vicariously of course) who loves beefy folders. I do food prep with my knife, 3x a year camping trips, cleaning fish/cutting bait, and mostly odd stuff - like pine staw bailing twine, and the occasional pencil sharpen. I don't peel many apples or cut tomatoes.

SO, will the toothy wonder do the job, or will I need toput it on my paper wheels?

Dude just try it out, and then if you don't like it then keep it. The only way to say for sure whether its for you, is to try it. It worked great for me, and then when it came time to sharpen i just brought back the edge and kept going. I think if you can get past the aesthetics then you will like it. If you like hair whittling sharp though your going to have to change it.

Thanks! What did you find it most useful for? And how did you touch up the edge?

Big bro and little bro.

Ive said it before and i ll say it again you cant buy more knife for the money!! Best value in the industry!

I recently acquired this Grayman Satu and it is a tank no doubt! I have hinderers and they may win in the practicality/fit and finish categories but in an apocalyptic scenario I'm grabbing this monster. Pics below, just had the custom lanyard made today by dawgknots (really nice guy).

AWESOME, And all Ti too! Should the zombie apocalypse happen you can use it as a knife and baseball bat! Congrats!
Lanyards aren't for me, but it looks good.

Striderco, I did an internet search for the Grayman Satu folder and it lead me back here to BF and your thread. There is a lot of great info here and it really helped me...I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'm pretty much sold on the knife but still undecided if I would keep the factory edge or have it reprofiled. I will just have to wait and see for myself, once I get my mitts on it.

You would prob be satisfied with the edge Mike would send you but if you wanna kick it up a notch send it off to Richard J! He could put it on his magic paper wheels and get it just screaming sharp for ya!! If you contact Grayman tell them I sent you as well as Richard J they will both take good care of you!! I have gotten to know both of them pretty well and they look out for people that I refer!! Best of luck! Get ready for one big bad ass folder!! Let me know if you get it! :)

Great looking knife - and you are right - it looks like a great deal based on what they are charging.

I am desperately trying to steer my collection in another direction or I would have already added one of these - for a long while I was a "Big Folder" guy. 4" blade and 5" handle is my sweet spot, and bigger / heavier is no problem.

It's just tough for me to find a reason to pull one of these pocket swords out and use it any more.

I havent checked to see if any exist yet, but if anyone would be so kind as to do a video on it or maybe post a link to an existing one that would be great.

Some nice lookin Satus! Is that orange a custom they did or did you have the scale made? Gotta love their t shirts!! Mike and Sue do rock!!!

I'm still on standby for my Satu. Hopefully Sue comes through with her promise to alert me with their upcoming inventory. I cannot wait to grab one.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn about their construction. Their knives, while obviously designed for use, are not made using the most simple of components.

Their use of the CRK pivot makes sense as it's bound to be better suited for grimy field conditions than a bearing system, and I like their multipiece standoffs too.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed on first glance, (but how often does that happen with simple, rugged, high end designs? Often...) but after careful consideration, I'll admit, it is intriguing.

Thanks for bringing this knife (actually the whole company!) to my attention.

They most definitely make users and abusers!! They have earned quite a solid reputation in a competitive world! I urge you guys to check out their site and watch the reviews! The Graymans are first class people all the way! Some of the nicest people i ve come across in the knife community. :)

The orange frag scale was purchased from another forum member that had it custom made.

I was skeptical about the size and price of this thing but I became a believer after mine arrived.
Did a write up on it at thefirearmblog.com

Dont hear too many complaints about GRAYMAN products! They have come along way as a company! Its still a small operation but they re making it in the knife mags month after month! Must be doing something right! Cheers!!
