Great Eastern Cutlery Availability, Dealers, "Drops", Etc.: A Place for People to Vent

I have come to like Great Eastern Cutlery over the past couple of years. I’ve moved from “stainless” steels (VG10, S30V, HAP40, and so forth), screwed together steel scales with G10 and the like to brass, bone, wood and 1095. I still have my Lum Chinese Folder with laminated steels, but that is a personal thing.

With patience and checking around now and then I have pretty easily managed to get the few patterns I like. All of mine except my 97 Yellow Rose (being a Native Texan) are users. I even have a #93 natural canvas Micarta on the way. Paid retail.

I suspect I could find a GEC Lamb Foot if I worked at it, but I think some will pop up later at reasonable, if not retail prices. Never had a lambs foot and I’m on the fence about the shape.

Nor do I know what to make of all the angst and whining over availability. I do not appreciate flippers. Yes, I know it’s their “business” but it reeks of immorality to me.

Hello from a fellow Texas GEC collector. Got here in 1965 from Oil City PA. My Father worked for Pennzoil, located about 25 miles from the GEC factory. Pennzoil moved headquarters here to Houston in 1965. Happy New Year to you. GEC makes a fine knife. I say that as a collector for many years.

And a Happy New Year to you. I’ve become a real GEC nut. I had a Case XX Barlow for a few days but sold it. Guess I’m spoiled.

Hey B Barbarosa99 , Bruce, you may not be totally out of luck KnivesShipFree will do a "drop" probably, so sign up for that ASAP and you might be able to snag one. @knowtracks said in another thread that The Maestro had 500 of the Black Jacks made so that's a pretty good chunk of knives to be available. I think other dealers do "drops" as well, you will have to reach out.

I hang out on the Porch everyday. When @waynorth first posted his Black Jack thread, I was firing off emails immediately. I have spent some time building relationships with some great dealers. Participating in discussions and just being part of the community here goes a long way in helping a person get the knives desired. We are unbelievably lucky to have a place like this to share our passion.

Have a happy New Year! I really hope you can score one. Reach out to the dealers, you never know. Sorry for all the tags, fellas!

Reading about Kifer selling new stock on eBay. I don't think GEC has a problem with that. Circle A does the same but only for buy it now. I'm pretty sure GEC mandates only a minimum price, not a maximum, to it's dealers. Anyone ever check out Country Knives website? LOL In fact, I can remember buying quite a few knives from K. Ryan Daniels on the bay when he was GEC sales manager at the time and they were first starting out.

So much for the "Brotherly Knife Community"....

There's always going to be some folks that see any sort of compassion or empathy as weakness and try to take advantage of it. Don't let it deter you from being a better person. Those others are an aberration. About 400 BF knives were sold and a dozen or so got flipped.

Anyone have experience with vigilance trading ?
They're listed on gec's distributor page but they seem pretty new?

Not personally. Looks like they have an eBay store though, lots of feedback and 100% positive feedback rating, which is a good sign.

Also, I assume GEC has a vetting process when a company wants to become a distributor, so I feel quite confident when dealing with any GEC distributor.

Thank you for the input! I figured as much but always like a word of encouragement from the community

Somebody mentioned somewhere else that there was a new Forum Knife (the sweet GEC 86 exclusive we just got delivered) on Ebay for a buy it now of $500.

Dang. Now, I'm not an ebay seller, but if somebody walked up and peeled off 5 bills for that knife I would be sorely tempted. Is somebody gonna bite at that price???

I then looked at some other GEC sales. I had no idea my collection is doing so well!

ETA: Big Northwoods drop on Wednesday! Everybody get geared up!
