Great Eastern Cutlery Availability, Dealers, "Drops", Etc.: A Place for People to Vent

Well, it's being discussed on the Porch that the $500 forum knife sold.

This is an official "heads up" for anyone who would sell one on the Exchange for a "brother-in-law" kind of price.

There are a couple more there now at 450 and 465, plus one at auction.

Pretty glad I bought an extra forum knife this year!

No big surprise, but former BF member "Oldhand2013" (whose been kicked off twice) is back with one of the first NW drops FS on the "Bay"..and using others (KSFs) photo, which got him in hot water here when he was flipping knives bought on the forum...

oh ok thank you. Im having trouble navigating this site.
It's all good! Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

This is the place to talk about buying/selling etc. Give the rules a read, and get a feel for the place. Talking about non-forum sponsored vendors outside of this sub forum is not allowed, for example.

I try to give good advice, haha. GEC can be tricky when you're new. Check out their homepage daily and get to know a dealer. Let me know it you have any other questions.

I’m new to traditional knives and not yet burdened by any significant amount of knowledge. If somebody could help a newbie out, some quick questions.....
1. When GEC starts rolling out a new issue of a pattern (like they just started to do with the jigged red bone version of the #62), roughly how long will it probably take them to finish production of all the varieties of that entire pattern run?
2. In an average year, roughly how many pattern reissues will GEC usually do?
3. I saw the “stabilized smooth white bone” model of the GEC 86 appear in one vendor website and sell out in a few hours. I don’t think it’s showed up at any other vendors. Is this a typical kind of thing when a GEC variety disappears inside a couple or few hours flat?

All of this and then some is what I wanted to ask but didn't know how! thank you

Ok, I will endeavor to answer here.

The short, snarky answer is that the knowledge you seek is all right there in the Traditional Sub. Follow the GEC threads and conversations and you can get up to speed pretty fast.

But I don't want to come off as snarky, so here are more detailed, helpful answers.
1. It depends. Runs have been getting bigger. I think the 86s took at least a couple of months.
2. Look for waverave's thread on the GEC production database. It has all kinds of numbers and graphs and stuff and is very well done. These bigger runs have been meaning fewer patterns per year.
3. I'm shocked you saw the white 86s last that long. It was a short filler run to make up for being short on stag, from what I understand. Any short run disappears fast as a general rule, but not always. By fast, I mean minutes, not hours.

Well, I've violated the first rule of fight club. Like @onearmedbladenut says, "GEC knife collecting is war!"

can we get a link to this production data base by wave rave I tried search baring it but didn't see anything.

I just found a place selling an 86 stag for I think 136.. is it worth it? I already have 2 oily creek bones..

I was supposed to get my stag 86 today, but the USPS let me down. I paid 142 at BHQ, so the price is right.

When the 86s are gone, you can pretty much count on GEC not producing the same configuration again. GEC frequently goes years between runs of the same pattern. Of course, if you can't see your individual knife, there's no telling if you'll get stag you like.

Did a loose count: as of today there are 20 giraffe bone heritage jacks for sale/have been sold on eBay. Roughly, I think at least 5 more FS or having been sold (AAPK, here, etc.

That’s about 25% of the production total that have been turned over at a substantial profit. Always trying to figure out what the general trend is with collecting....Supply & demand forces at work or is there something those owners didn’t like or....?
