Great Eastern Cutlery Availability, Dealers, "Drops", Etc.: A Place for People to Vent

I hadn’t gotten around to calling that # yet. I guess I’ll forget it now. Kifer apparently doesn’t want to be bothered by those irritating potential customers.

Nah, he's too busy posting up his entire stock of desirable knives (like what appears to be his entire stock of #62 Pocket Carvers) to Ebay to go to the highest bidder. Interesting behavior for a "dealer".

Thanks for that insight. I don’t check the Bay for knives, so I didn’t know that. Well, I got something accomplished before lunch today---one more useless bookmark deleted!

I heard that he made a habit of doing this awhile back and it remains the sole reason why I don't bother to get in on any of his SFOs. Which is a shame, his SFOs have been quite nice in the past. On one hand, I wish a man the best when it comes to making the most money possible but when you become one of the few (or only) that makes habit of such selling practices, it really is a bad look. It just caters to the "got to have it now" folks with deep pockets.

I know plenty of folks here who will be using the Pocket Carvers for some serious whittling - I'm sure they would rather pay the (current retail) going rate for a quality working knife rather than the over-inflated costs that typically come with the scarcity of a collector's supply.

I have had great service and communication from Kifer.
I sent him two messages via his website messaging feature and I got zilch for a response. This is the only vendor I’ve ever had this experience with but as somebody once said, “No response is a response.” I got the message and I won’t bug him again.

Stumpy72 Stumpy72 that is frustrating.

It also seems odd, maybe he is out of town or ill, etc.

Don’t write him off...... that blue camel 23 will be a stunner!

I have had 100% positive experiences with all GEC authorized dealers, not a bad one in the bunch.

I've yet to deal with him, but he seemed very open to putting me on his list for a blue bone 23. So he's ok in my books :)

When a knife sells out in minutes, the average Joe has no chance owning it, but in an auction, the longer time period is more equitable. Things cost more when demand is high, that's equitable too, unless it's essential like water. Give the guy a break :)

It’s good some dealers do early reserve, it’s good some post knives at random times during the week with little or no notice, and it’s good some offer them for auction.
People have numerous opportunities to get what they like, how they like to get it!

When desirable knives go to auction, "average Joe" is usually left out in the cold for a second time. :)

i have had the unfortunate displeasure of meeting Mr.Kifer at one of the rendezvous. He decided to confront me in person over a comment I made agreeing with people about his less than honest dealing practices on facebook, basically calling him out on his bs. Rumor has it, he parks that camper so he can buy those knives and put em on ebay right away. but that was the old rules. Hopefully the new rules fixed that.

That... That is obscene. Over $200 on top of the retail price.

No free shipping on top of that nonsense either. Sheesh, throw a guy a bone...
You think that's bad check this out!

Hey, cut B Behr95 some slack. He's said before that this hobby is expensive and he can't keep all the knives he wants. Just selling to fund the hobby!

(don't look at all the other GECs he's flipping on the bay right now though)
