I agree that flat rivets would look better. Function may be better with the steel threaded version though (even though the brass rivets on my queens don't seem to be a problem). MSRP at $62 should equate to real world price of around $50, or thereabouts. At that price I'd get one, as long as they were kept at the 3 3/4" size That's about the practical limit for comfortable pocket carry, for me anyway. The Queen Country Cousin carries well for me, so this would too. Handle material, delrin comes in multiple colors. I like the orange, but how hard would it be to change it up once in a while? Maybe even a slightly thinner sawcut version kind of like a smaller Schrade 6OT with no bolsters and the bullnose blade profile. Now that I'd really get into.

I would have bought that knife but they were sold out really fast. I would like this knife to be a staple product from GEC. It could sit along the pioneers and stockman just fine.

EDIT to add:

I voted "as is," under the impression we could see more handle options in the future as well. If the change was something as small as the pivot pin, it wouldn't make a difference to me either way. I personally prefer the plump handles.

I like it just the way it is:thumbup: Of course if it where in the $40.00 range that'd be cool.

Instead of all this guessing, why not call or e-mail GEC and ask them what the liners are made of and how the blade pivot is made. I'd call or e-mail GEC but don't care enough to make the effort because:

The knife is fine as is and if more become available, I'll buy another one or two.

I very much like the knife. I would like to own one as is, but I voted for modification.

I would like to see Micarta handle scales. I just like the micarta option (natural scales like bone or other would also be cool).

Linnen micarta, or heck, even paper micarta of different colors would be awesome!

I would likely have picked one up, even at the trial run price, but they sold out quickly! I had plenty of time to order one, but hesitated (I have never owned a derlin handled knife). If I had seen a close up pic of the liners, I would have ordered one before they sold out, but I expected to have more time to deliberate.

I voted as is also Ed. I'm not that curious. I will take Mike's judgement of All thread construction, and my observations leading me to believe its stainless as good enough.

When I had a concern on Heat treat I sure did call the shop ;-)

This is just meant to be a fun thread to get an idea of what people think and hear any thoughts. :)

I will add my thoughts. I like the design. I would not change a thing aside from offer different handle slab options...colors, materials etc, all of course if possible.

I like it as is, and voted as such, but I have a couple comments.

I think it would be cool to have a "take down" version, with a removable pivot. Don't know how well it would work, or how practical it would be, but I think it would be neat.

I wouldn't mind seeing one of these as the forum knife, with a gussied up handle.

There are not many slab materials you can water jet. It is my understanding that micarta would explode, and any natural material would be a nasty mess. But if someone can recommend an actual slab that can be water jet and competes generally in the price range of delrin in 2' x 4' sheets; I would be glad to pass it on. Their one main requirement to come in at my price point was that all components had to be done by water jet, to minimize the most expensive component - man hours.

Also anyone that has a delrin supplier for 0.187" x 24" x 48" sheets that are a color you would like better than black or orange for less than $100 please PM me.

As far as dressing it up; it doesn't make sense to me as we can have a scout for the same money if you start putting hand worked bone, stag, wood, etc. on them.

what's not to like about Florida Orange Delrin.:D
looks real good to me

thanks for posting

For the increased price I think GEC could modify a few things to make their knife stand out among the other companies. As is, I think Queen's version is a better deal(Delrin, D2, ~$30). I would prefer an upgraded material like micarta or G-10. The only thing that bugs me about sodbusters is the big out of place pivot pin. GEC should switch it to a plain pin and etch their logo on it, something almost like Chris Reeve did with his Mnandi.

If I wanted a sub-$50 Sod Buster I'd just replace my lost Case. If I wanted a Sod Buster done right - I'd have to order a custom, because GEC doesn't currently make them. But I think a lot of people would pay typical Scout or Pioneer prices for a well done Sod Buster in Stag, Elk or Primitive Bone. Ebony would be nice and I would think could be offered for less than $100, easily.

As far as dressing it up; it doesn't make sense to me as we can have a scout for the same money if you start putting hand worked bone, stag, wood, etc. on them.

I do have a Scout; I want a Sod Buster. Knife knuts are funny like that - you should know. I'm not sure I understand the $50 breaking point; they sold out instantly at $62.50 in awful orange plastic.

I voted no I don't want one, even though the O1 is intriguing. I've never been partial to soddies, but I do have several single blade Pioneers, including this one.

It is very similar to a sodbuster, but to me at least, more interesting and elegant, while still just as tough.

I adore this thing just as it is. Always been a fool for a sodbuster, and always wanted one in a size between the usual small and large ... that is to say a slimmer version of the 73

Can't wait for these to be available
