Judging by the images posted on the other Traditional thread it is a lot less Orange than that.

Cheers:)

It is NOT a lot less orange. The one thing I did even though I only spent 5 minutes with a point and shoot was to use diffused natural light with the proper white balance set. I also held my knife to the monitor as I did my edits :)

I like the sodbuster pattern. Simple, easily pinch-openable and I appreciate the 01 steel and what that means to traditional enthusiasts. I'd really like to see it in 440C, ATS-34 or another decent quality stainless steel.

A quick experience with the O-1.

I was able to get very good results spending about 20 minutes with my translucent stone keeping to the factory edge geometry, followed by finishing on my jeweler's rouge loaded linen strop to remove any burr. Its a savage edge with all the bite you could ask for and it still push cuts newsprint with ease. Next to see how it holds up.

Also anyone that has a delrin supplier for 0.187" x 24" x 48" sheets that are a color you would like better than black or orange for less than $100 please PM me.

As far as dressing it up; it doesn't make sense to me as we can have a scout for the same money if you start putting hand worked bone, stag, wood, etc. on them.

Sent you a PM for a natural/black delrin source @ 35% less than price you mentioned

The sodbuster pattern (or the German "folding butcher knife" from which the pattern was taken **) is by design and tradition, a workman's pattern. A good working alloy with good workman's scales seems highly appropriate to me.

Black Delrin sounds good to me.
O1 blade steel is great.
If you made another batch, I would buy one.

I'd like to see one with a black or stag handle, bail instead of lanyard hole and a bottle opener/screw driver :D

The soddy pattern in wood is definitely justified - here's mine

I think it's quite handsome

I just can't justify the price on these GECs for a backup buster...but it is a nice looking knife.

RS, great pics and review on the #71 so far. I really can't wait to get mine.

I know the "ugly" orange handles are not the most traditional, but I look at it a different wait.

I can remember when I was little, the one true color for hunting was orange, it didn't matter if you had small game in mind, or a big eight point, you couldn't hunt unless you wore that "ugly" orange. I remember many mornings watching as that bright color left view and made it's way into the woods. I always dreamed of one day wearing it, being a hunter like everyone else in my family. Those days have passed and I'm the one headed for the woods now, and I'm thankful for those "ugly" orange vests.

I have been in the process of cleaning many a game animal and I set my knife down, I've always found the knife, but I've had some scares. These scales will be perfect for the next hunting season, I look forward to working with it through the summer and hunting with it through the fall and winter months. It may not be the best color, but it strikes true with my memory, it will forever represent hunting and the men who wore those "ugly" orange vests.

Thanks again Mike.

Thanks Johny. This knife has a very good belly that I think would fit your needs well. I'm not a hunter but I do appreciate the orange. Its just a work knife/beater knife. Doesn't mean I won't take care of it, just won't feel bad like with stag or ivory.

I voted for modifications just because I would rather have some sort of micarta instead of delrin. Great looking knife though. And my experience with O1 is very positive. A tough steel that holds and takes an edge very well. I use it on a majority of my fixed blades as my go to non-stainless steel. Great looking knife!!

Oops, probably my green eyes messing my colour balance! Fully aware it's going to be a while before we see one on this side of the pond:(

I like the overall look, but I would get rid of the orange scales and add stag or some other natural material. I think O1 is a great choice..

what he said :D

also whats the blade length - is it over 3"? 3" or under and you'd have us britsh chewing your arm of for one

Don't get me wrong, my pictures may not be as accurate as the pro's. I didn't spend that much time or use that elaborate of a set up or equipment for these shots. What I just wanted to make sure was known, is that its very orange :)

So that hopeful's won't think, eh, when I get it it will be less orange :)

I hope they make them available to you.

Corso, I can measure, do you want the length of the actual edge? What measurement matters?

Mt Airy - It is a slip joint with no lock but a fairly firm spring.
