I voted for "with modifications", but only because I already have one of the current configuration:D

I'd buy more regardless, as-is or with modifications.

I voted yes, with mods.

The mod being getting it under $50.
I will reward that achievement with the purchase of at least one (in any color except Orange, and preferably in Kentucky blue :D)

Stu, I was under the impression that a production run with the same materials was going to cost less. I read the difference would be flat delrin as opposed to rod so it could be cut with their waterjet and less man hours would go into fitting. Either way I was under the impression the 'as is' production run would be less costly.

If I'm wrong please someone correct me.

I think the knife "as is" is a fine starting point however in the future I'd like to see some variety in handle material and maybe blade steel( such as 440C or 1095).

Obviously the per knife cost of a full production run should be less than the prototype run.
From what I read when these were available is that it is the goal to get them under $50, and that it would be (and I am paraphrasing here) a failure of sorts if they can't make that happen.
All I am saying is if they "modify" the price to under $50, Mike can count on my business.
At $62, I am not interested.

I voted for modifications. It doesn't matter to me how functional the pivot is, it just looks awful. I'd like to see a bird's eye style pivot and upgraded scales, even if it raises the cost close to the #73 pattern. GEC's niche is top notch fit, finish, and materials. It would give people a chance to get a high end shadow pattern without going the full blown custom route.

I don't think you can lower the cost enough to make it competitive with currently available Sodbusters among the non-knifenuts. The knifenuts have come to expect more of GEC and have already shown willingness to pay the price that comes along with it.

FWIW I love the orange and considered buying one at first. After seeing closer pics of the pivot, I'm glad I hesitated.

I wanted to add after handling and using mine, if they did another run in the same manner I would give 62$ all day long :)

I too would like to see a more affordable production line as long as the end result is similar.

I would buy it as is. I like that safety orange more than case yeller(don't hurt me) or most other bright colors.

Ideally I'd go with a less flashy color, though orange is great for a work knife. Black, gray, dark blue micarta would be optimal for me, but not a huge deal.

I like the size and design, and as far as I can tell from the pictures the quality is excellent. Not a gap or protruding edge anywhere. Spring and tang alignment seem perfect.

A plastic-handled Case sodbuster is under $25. I'd certainly be willing to pay more for superior quality and better steel, but I probably wouldn't jump unless the handle scales were also upgraded. Wood, at least.

Very interested in the UK, perfect size for me! Tricky to get in on the action on this side of the pond!:)

I would be interested if the handles were black instead of orange, b/c then I could grind off some material to add more interesting handle scales while leaving the bolster area as is. But stag or wood scales with orange bolsters wouldn't work for me!

Judging by the images posted on the other Traditional thread it is a lot less Orange than that.

Cheers:)

If this knife was much less than $50

Because I can buy a Scout for in the mid $60s, where it is bone and brass
And a Case or Queen Soddie for $25

The Queen has a more useable point
This one is very bull nosed!

Interested, but only if the knife is larger, and the handle of some darker material. In my experience, orange starts to look pretty bad after some real use.

I voted yes I want one and now I have one!!!!!!!
It should be on it's way sometimes today, so I can't wait. This knife is awesome and has left me depressed that I missed out on one of my favorite patterns from my favorite knife company.
I'll post pics when she arrives.

I voted yes, as-is. The orange delrin scales are great for a work knife. This isn't intended to be an "art knife". I like it and I want one. Hope I can get one. I like black scales and yellow scales on sodbusters and yes I like chocolate micarta and orange delrin too. I really like the fact that it has an O1 blade; that might be part of the reason for the expense of the knife. I have no doubt that the balance of the knife is constructed better than the Case counterpoint which I like fine as well.
