Great Eastern Cutlery Missouri Trader #42

Thanks for your thoughts on the pattern and the pics. I came very close to ordering one of these in ebony last week. The cocobolo caught my eye at first and I actually thought about buying a Northfield for the first time in a while until I noticed the nail nick is in the cut swedge. GEC always seems to do something to turn me off to that line of knives, whether it be pinched bolsters and/or bails. It's awful considerate of them to save me some money.:D

Does anybody know if the lockbar on these are stainless or carbon steel?

Have a good trip, Kevin.

Thank you Dan! I know what you mean about little things keeping you from buying. Good thing we have lots of knives already :)

As for the lockbar my guess is carbon steel. I will let you know if it doesn't patina. I just went over the bolters and wood with some 600 sand paper and buffer to give it the finish I like. No patina on the lockbar yet. Too much CLP oozing getting out the gunk.

Just honed it and it was effortless. Reminds me of my Randall because it also comes almost to a zero edge. Very sharp.

Its going with me so I'm sure I will get into plenty of corrosive stuff.

I will let you know.

Kevin

Yep, super impressed with mine, just as you described.

Thanks Mike, that is great to hear!

Great looking knife you have. The ebony seems even darker on yours. Can't beat that.

You can see the difference in finishing on the bolsters. I finish mine 600 grit and sometimes crocus cloth finish followed by light or no buffing.

That bead turns some crazy yellows in different lights.

Just got home from a trip to the best state in the union, and the best knife company in the states. How could I resist? This knife is a beauty. Perfect size, extremely well-made. The folks at Great Eastern are all stellar too. Really an enjoyable experience. Came home with three new ones...

Here's a quick comparison shot...a 72, 42 and 23.

You can see that the Copperhead is a lot thinner than the Pioneer. It's going to be a great EDC, and won't scare the kiddies as much as a #23...

Man, some sweet pics here and congrats on the new ones all!

I am sooo tempted, especially if it is the size of a Buck 500, which by the way you can still get direct from Buck if you are an Eagle Scout (got one for my son), it's a great feeling knife.

Nice looking Stanley retractanble tape measure. The black and red numbers and letters contrast nicely with the yellow background. Well done!!!!! Is that a "PowerLock"?

Thanks for the laugh Ed! Here on the beach and getting ready to put my freedive gear on... I did NOT forget my water wings :-p

Just saw your edit, what's a powerlock? Or are you still kidding around?

The Powerlock collection. :D

Not as cool as the GEC #25, mind you. :D
