Great Eastern Cutlery

still no knife for me-and cumberland hasnt replied to my email Saturday asking if it shipped-i bought on the 24th it should have shipped and been here by now-
man i am sick of guys who refuse to be good about communication-

edit -just tried to call-number no longer in service

rosconey2, you did notice that contact information for Cumberland was changed on 3/20. I figured you did but wanted to mention it just in case.

Just FYI:

I talked to Bill at Cumberland about a week ago. He has recently moved into a new home (same town). In addition to the normal stress of moving, he is doing a lot of the finish work on his home. We all know how chaotic moving can be, and I would not be surprised if that could be having an effect on his knife business (which was part of the move) temporarily. Bill is a stand-up guy in my book, and would not knowingly ignore customer service.

Just my 2 cents.:)

i wait about 3 weeks before i get pissed-LOL-and i did get 2 other knives in the mail today-a schrade walden stockman-like new ---and my yuna hard2 -WOW

...and would not knowingly ignore customer service.

Agreed. I have a couple on order with Bill too. I figure they will arrive soon - but I know Bill's a good guy as I have dealt with him many times before. I'm sure once he gets a chance to catch up - hell make things right (if necessary) in whatever way is reasonable.

Bill's also been suffering through a series of kidney stone episodes over the past month or two. So between the move and his health, he could probably use a bit of slack.

i will cut him some slack-but im not happy guys who ordered after me have knives already-

i can wait a few more days to hear some news or recieve the knife-

its all about comunication-so far ive had none-

i dont know or care-

It's frustrating, I'm sure. I've had my share of goof-ups on knife orders as well, including one or two with Bill, but hey, in the grand scheme of things... (Look on the bright side, you still have something exciting to look forward to from whomever you decide to get it from.)

I hope that's the worst problem you have to deal with.

i will say this-he already refunded me-i just received a paypal email-
that shows some class-i might give him another try

Gentlemen,

Nothing short of top notch. I was given a personal tour of the facility and found the quality to outstanding. Bill Howard is working hard to do the very best he can to please all of us. A feat in itself. I trust that each of you that have recieved one of these knives will be extremely proud to display it in a very short period of time. You will be the ones to tell a younger generation that you were there in the beginning. I wish I was old enough to say that about the original Tidioute Cutlery Companies. What prize I would have today, But then again, I would be close to 100;) I suspect they will be around for a long time. We need to support them and give feedback as you are doing here. Talk as I know they are listening.

I agree 100%! While the first 2 knives I received were something less than quality, the other knives have been worth more than I paid in my opinion. Bill Howard requested that I send these 2 knives DIRECTLY to him and they are being reworked at this time. I'm not a dealer and I am impressed that an owner would take the time to talk with a customer who had a complaint. The customer service I received is excellent and they stand behind what they sell. All in all, they will be around a long time with the type of customer service I recieved and the quality of the knives I recieved, after the first two. Those 2 I believe were mistakenly sent out and I have had nothing but quality knives sent to me ever since.
Yes, they do listen, if there is a problem, speak up! If you're pleased, say so!
Also, I must say that:
GEC has trainees who are not yet master craftsman.
Any new company is going to have a lot of new inexperienced employees.
With that in mind, I must compliment GEC on thier rapidly growing quality. They are just going to get better.

Hey Hukk how about sharing a pic or two of that stag beauty you just got in..

for what it is worth Ive got two GECs, a scout and a large trapper. Both have had excelent fit and finish, and surprisingly good factory edges -- beyond what I have come to expect from American-made slipjoints.

I agree davmgt they do come with a very nice factory edge. The kind of edge all knives should come with from the factory.

Which GEC knives did you get?

Well, I think I will soon give them a chance. I've a knife I'm going to sell off, and use the proceeds for a Tidoute in bone.
