Hey again guys! What is a great steel for slicing and not fouling on bone if one comes in contact with it? Eternal thanks!;) Just the steel ...If you are going to recommend a knife as well...do make it a fixed blade. Thanks again.

Hi guys. Sorry for not being more clear..What I mean by fouling is chipping or knockin off metal from the edge if encountered with bone...What will hold up to the slicing and bone hits, if so encountered? Thank you again.

Please a more serious answer please. Thanks. And I'm not talkin slammin into the bone but for some reason I should ever come in contact with it when going through flesh..what could stand up to the punishment yet be sharp as well. And NO I'm not planning on killing anyone. Mature answers here guys, please. :thumbup:

If your thinking about gutting/skinning/butchering a deer, elk, or other medium to large game you should have NO problems with all of the most popular blade steels, 154CM, S30v, 1095, M2, M4...ect. Just stay away from the D2 and really high carbon low chromium steels

check out rat cutlery. i've heard of the rc-3 and the rc-4 being used to dress deer(and bear), with great results. 1095 with a good HT.

Slicing ability is determined by edge geometry not steel. Edge geometry also determines how it will be affected from hitting bone(as long as you use a knife steel).

Ok guys..pretty please with cherries on top....stick to my original question. I asked for a steel and a fixed blade if you could recommend it for slicing and for non fouling capabilities on bone or any other obstacle in the ballpark...I don't want to hear about geometry or anything else but names of steels and fixed blades that fit the bill. Not that I don't appreciate the really technical parts...Just not in this thread...Thanks again, seriously LOADS. :D :thumbup:

There are LOTS of knives that suit the bill, including some of the ones already mentioned. Here's one: Dozier K-DP made from D2 steel.

Of course there are LOTS. But I wanna know what the rest of you think and want to gain more knowledge and wisdom from you seasoned vets. And thank you for the straight up answer, I do appreciate it. :D :thumbup:

You must have knife with bone breaker on the back ( Puma White hunter, Cold Steel Outdorsman. Due normal cutting all most any steel shouldn't " fouling " if you occasionally cut bone.

I dont know your application but 1095 with a good heat treat so +1 on the rats... if your not taking it into the field or can figure a way to care them safely ive always used forschner or dexter knives in my occupation as a butcher. If one of them fits your needs they are second to none in slicing meat and not chipping on bonesorry i dont know the steel off hand

Thanks a crazy ass load guys! Hey you're a butcher? That's awesome! I've kinda wanted to get into that field before! :D :thumbup:

They would work for slicing and won't foul on bone......

Dude.....YOU ARE FRICKIN' AWESOME! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::D

Id' say D2, M2, M4 are your best bets.

D2 would probably cut through bone with minimal dulling.

Just keep it clean and oiled.

I've heard good things about Dozier knives with D2 blades.
