Grimsmo Norseman, what's the deal? and others...

I am on the lottery for any Grimsmo.
I can understand Grimsmo's prices, but I can't understand Rockstead's.
Go figure.

I didn't read everything, but the ticket for sports events/sneakers/PDW patches/MonkeyEdgeStriders/whatever analogy doesn't work for the Norseman, if their website is to be believed.

You get on the lotto, you can only get on it once, your number comes up, you buy the build if you like it or don't if you don't. At least that was how I read it. They are trying to control the abuse factor. I know, people have for sure found the way to get around the one person/one name/one entry thing, like signing up your wife and all your friends who are not into knives. And, sure, lots of people are on the lotto who are just gonna sell, but who cares. I'm on the lotto. Don't know if I'd sell it. But I'd like to see one in hand. It's a tiny supply, with much larger demand, therefore...

Anyway, none of the above applies if they have changed the system.

I got over being mad about supply/demand/resellers a long time ago in the sneaker game.

All the hand fitting, hand finishing. Trial and error of machining.

For example they make their own hardware (Screws, pivots, etc). This is something that many makers cannot do. Even larger production companies.

The guy is a very talented machinist, compared to many other knife makers he seems to know a lot of about machining.

What's this ?
What's THIS ? !
Real knives being made some where ?
That is why Nick Shabazz is all about his.
Hmmmmmmmm I thought he had had a very weird day and needed some serious retail therapy.
The DoDo bird of blades if you ask me.
I better take another look since they are actually made right.
Dare I say it ? ? ?
(haha)
Might be the next Wowbagger blade mod.

At 900 something dollars they are a steal now, I mean titanium construction, RWL34 steel, no lock bar insert and TWO stop pins, and a blade shape with mass appeal, even no need to decide what finish you like since Grimsmo does it for you. I mean what other company does that.
And yes, that was sarcasm. I can understand them from a capitalist standpoint of course, now that they covered all their initial costs they are grabbing as much money as they, especially seeing how much money they seemingly left on the table due to the secondary market prices. Once the market is saturated they'll have to get inventive again or they'll disappear. (And no, I am not salty, I wouldn't buy a 300$ Norseman or a 300$ Rask, sorry.)

I am on all of Grimsmo knives lotteries. If I get the tap, I’ll likely be pissed as I won’t be able to justify a $1200 knife. Waiting to see what (if anything g) is offered to me.

I’ve never seen or touched one but I would support a local company and try one if I could justify the cost.

That's the market we're in. I personally cannot stand the blade shape on the Norseman's. If I wanted a spoon, I'll just use a spoon.

But I respect that others probably love that shape, and will pay out accordingly. It's a good time to be a knife guy.

Also, gougers will always be a part of that market unfortunately.

Hahahahahahahahahahah I think its ugly as hell as well. But to each his own.

We have a likeable, hardworking, passionate Canadian fellow who made a name for himself because he knows how to sell himself, his brother and his products. Good marketing and high standards.

O yes.Simplicity of perfection which Blade show awards show for.No other knives are even close. Yep ;).

I own 6 sebenzas. I have nothing against CRK.

But to cite blade show awards as anything other than a popularity contest/politics is laughable. Blade show awards hold about as much merit to me as tabloid magazine covers.

But if they're perfection to you, then more power to you. Enjoy em.

I know, rewards are overrated but fit and finish ,tolerances, warranty, ease of cleaning, consistency, lockup, centering, pure user design, simplicity is the key to the brilliance is hard to beat.Cheers brother.

Yeah I've not come across (m)any reviews about the Norseman. They look 'cool' but agree the blade shape seems useless.

To me, that shape looks like an excellent work knife for me. I do primarily woodworking with my construction company, and the chisel tip looks great for use as a chisel, a sharp/flat cutter, and still plenty of primary edge for every day cutting chores. I have a keen interest in that design, but if I bought that particular knife I wouldn't be able to carry all the other work knives I have collected over the years in good conscience. If I spent that much on a knife I would feel like I had to carry it every day!

I wouldn't worry about the pricing and the secondary/resellers market. Go over to the traditional forum and get an idea of exactly how that works. A certain manufacturer or two will build interest in a new knife design, new scales, etc., well in advance of release. You can buy direct, so many do without having the slightest intent of ever using them. There are times that only a very few specimens are left for the general public. The are literally buying with the intent of reselling them, nothing else. It's the market.

I just got my name pulled the other day great to support fellow Canadian finally get to handle one,. don't think it will leave my hands, but if it does my buddy has first dibs or trading it for something badass later on.

It's even in the configuration I like just wish the color for the scales were different but I still like the look

This is a bubble knife.
Hinderer 2011
Shirogorov 2014

There's been more, but that's the general gist. If you buy now and don't like it, make sure to resell soon.

I truly feel sorry for anyone who spends >$1000 on one of these production knives.

Grismo makes an awesome handle but Rockstead makes an amazing blade. Also I’ve handled rocksteads before and they are awesomely built knives. Even though many of them are aluminum handled the quality is amazing.

Also those blades are like a piece of art.

I really want to try a rockstead next or a rassenti small satori, should be able to trade the norseman for one if not still should get my money back. Not going to flip it as soon I get it would try to edc it for a while
