Grimsmo Norseman, what's the deal? and others...

Would need to hold one with my own hands to decide if it's cost justified. I'd like to think there is a "next level" of craftsmanship that can command the asking price.
I agree that holding one would help decide if the cost is justified, but I just can't justify the price. I think there are a lot of other great premium knives out there to buy as alternatives.

I get paying a premium for design and quality. I had the same thoughts as OP about Shirogorov until bought one, and have to say, I'm impressed. Fit and finish are impeccable, and action is really smooth as people say. Is it worth the price? That's certainly an individual assessment.

That said, I really don't get Norseman. The design of the blade makes it poor at the one task it's designed for (actually cutting things), you have to buy the one they choose for you regardless of your preference, I've seen the vast majority of them for sale at one point or another (which they make easy to track by sequentially numbering each of them), and they demand a premium for no other reason than scarcity, which could cause the value to absolutely plummet should the maker decide at any point to just start producing more.

Norsemans are a lot like limited production Shiros, I think most of them are purchased by people with the intention of reselling them at a profit.

100% agree

You make some good points. The model that came up just happened to be how I would most likely order a Norseman if the opportunity presented itself, which it now has. Also, I’m not premeditating selling the knife since I’m hoping I really like it. If I did though, I also won’t be one of those to mark it up just to make a quick buck on the secondary. I actually really wanted a DLT red PM2, but have been pretty dismayed at how many members here are charging insulting amounts for them. Guess I’ll do without...

Too small and impractical for my EDC. I prefer a folding machete to make no sense.

They are all over for sale now and with reduced prices of 700-800 pretty much brand new.

Funny, you could start this thread over today and substitute Holt for Grimsmo and I think in about 2 to 3 years, the same thing would have happened. People are paying just stupid money for Holts on the secondary market. I know people are paying 100% mark ups days after the knives are sold via the Holt Lottery. The winners get bombarded with offers as soon as their names are drawn.

Me, I'll wait or take my chances with the weekly lotteries.
