The liner lock on the alpha is low grade IMO..
The grip will perform just as well.. And will take more of a beating...
Either way.. You will be happy with what you get..
Good luck

I personally like the alphas, I just scored a stag folding alpha hunter for 39.99 and a AG folding alpha hunter last week for 60.00. they are great knives with and without the gut hook. the weight and balance is nearly perfect, and like mentioned the linerlock is a little cheesy but I've never had one fail.

I have both knives. I think you blade measures are a little long.
Alpha blade is 3.5 inches per Buck's web site.
Grip's blade is 3.45 inches per KnifeCenter's site.

Both are very good knives. The Grip's axis lock is better than the Alpha's linerlock but the Alpha has better general build quality IMO. The grip does come with a different blade profiles though.

I prefer the Alpha over the Grip but as stated earlier you will probably like either very well.

yadude - If I understand your question correctly it is about fixed blade knives but most of the responses refer to folders. I have both of the fixed blades you refer to and I prefer the Griptilian. They are both good knives with little to separate them technically. The difference is really subjective - see if you can handle both knives and buy the one that feels best to you. If you really like the Alpha then the mini Alpha is also worth a look.

I prefer the Alpha fixed and folding, and I have never had a problem with the linerlock I carry one every day its my EDC. So I vote for the Alpha fixed or folder.

Thanks guys..Ive been thinking and I think I also trust Buck more. I have acouple Buck knives and they are perfect. But I heard that Benchmade makes knives for the military.

A lot of variables go into making the choice that you've asked about. What sort of tasks will you be using the knife for?...Will you be using it outdoors in cold or wet weather?...How important are aesthetics of the knives in the choice? How do you plan on carrying the knife? In small fixed blades, like the two you've mentioned, the selection is huge. For the price of either of these knives you can get a handmade knife from some of the custom makers on this forum. You can find better production knives than these two for about the same money. But. if it's between just these two, I'd go for the Benchmade.

thanks...well i'd use it for...camping, fishing, indoor projects, maybe hunting. I dont really care how its carried, since both come with sheaths.

If I'm carrying a pack, a sheath needs to be attachable to more than my belt, or easy to stuff inside without unnecessary gee-gaws (technical term) protuding. Both the knives you mention are capable of adequately doing the jobs you have in mind.

By 'those" you mean the fixed Griptillian or Buck ? I own a benchmade folder and a Strider Buck Solution model fixed blade.

These are the knives that I have, that I use for the tasks that you mention and are about the size and cost of the two you are considering.

I was trying to find the same answer that you are. Trying to find a good, small, fixed blade. I use all these knives at one time or another. My decision as to what I carry depends on what I expect to be using the knife for and how much weight and size I can tolerate. Be careful or you'll end up with more knives than you know what to do with. I know a little about that.

My free words of wisdom for survival in knife buying. Don't fall in love with the hardware, and there is always another deal. I get into trouble when I forget that it's only a hunk of metal and my $1.00 chinese folders worked great until I started hanging out on the knife forums.:D

You know you are leaning toward the Alpha Hunter, because you posted on the Buck forum.....................:D

And we all know Buck is #1.................;)

The knives in the above pictures looks like my wifes kitchen utensils

It looks like a butter knife with a bottle opener on the end. Does it have a edge on it or is it not finished
