Gripitlian VS Alpha Hunter

I'd go with the Alpha Hunter fixed blade over the Griptilian fixed blade.

I personally found the handle of the Griptilian fixed blade to be very uncomfortable, and
I've read the same comment many times from others who've tried the knife..

The Buck fixed Alpha Hunter fixed is a great knife for the money IMO.

The only reason I might choose a different knife in the size & general price range would be for chopping & other heavier-duty work
because of the Buck's hollow grind. (In that case, I'd look at the RAT 4 and the Fallkniven F1.)

Beer opener. I will agree that I like the alpha's properties and look much better then the grips. But...I dont not like the sheath's color. I guess I can just get a black one.
Hows the sharpness on those knives? anyone?

All this is making me think about the Buck kalinga..........

The buck Kalinga is a very good knife, I have both the fix and a folder. The Alpha and Kalinga are very sharp and easy to sharpen.

I didn't like the Grip fb knife - just felt weird to me. I like the BM 201 Activator+ (D2), so I ordered one. It's a great fit to my hand. The Alpha fb doesn't feel - or look - as good, to me, as the Kalinga Pro in S30V. That was a great buy here. So, now I will compare the Activator+(D2) to the K-P (S30V).

I bought the Activator+ as my second Benchmade. Like my first - a Grip folder 551 in 440C - it came dull... very dull. Bucks come sharp - and the 408 fb K-P (S30V) came razor sharp - and still, admittedly after little use in the last 1.5yr+ that I've had it, is push paper-cutting sharp. As to price - the Activator+ may be ~$20 less than the K-P with judicious evil-bay shopping. ($80 & $100). That D2 is a chore to re-edge - even with a clean Spydie Sharpmaker. Buck & Spyderco Native S30V seem more straightforward - and maybe a tad easier to re-sharpen.

My use is camping - wood's chores - bushcrafting - and some 'food prep'. Probably my favorite Buck for such is a 192 Vanguard - available in a mix of upgrade blade material, like S30V & 154CM, as well as utilitarian 420HC. I still like the Activator+, but it had the misfortune of arriving here with my first Bark River - a Huntsman, which now has six siblings, all carbon steel and convex ground, not to mention my best choices for bushcraft use. Still - I can't quite break the ties with that BM Activator+ - it is a keeper, even without an exact purpose here. Here it is with the Vanguard and Huntsman:

Here are the Folding Kalinga Pro (#419), Fixed Kalinga Pro (#408), and a 110 for scale comparison:

sweet.. I have acctually concluded that. I have a buck iceman, buck mayo kaala ,and a bantam, the s30v on the kaala was sharp, but not what the reviews said.

I'll rate my S30V knives in order of sharpness as delivered, with the sharpest first:

Fingernail paring sharp: Buck/Cabelas AG110

Hair shaving: Buck K-P's; 151 Kaala; both Spyderco Natives; and Kershaw Blur

push paper - near shaver: Gerber stag-handled Freeman

All were US-made - and perusing their edges revealled no chips after some use. I really like S30V.

thanks...well i'd use it for...camping, fishing, indoor projects, maybe hunting. I dont really care how its carried, since both come with sheaths.

You need to look at Bucks 192 Vanguard with the Rubber handle and S30V steel. (Cabellas Alaskan Guide Series) You have a lot of Buck options.

Remember the Buck Lifetime warranty.

Pack Rat, thanks I checked their website..but they only had the wooden handle, and didnt find any s30v option.. wow they do have a zipper with s30v.

Yes,,,they have the zipper, and they do have the rubber as well as the wood, in S30V.

Their website is not totally user friendly.

the website only shows the rosewood, but there is a dropdown that lets you select the rubber ...plain blade...

Yeah I found it...I have thought about this knife before, and regreted that there was no upgrade for the 420hc.
I read somewhere that the s30v is CPM S30v which is 45% better then 420...is that rust resistant?

I have never had any of my S30V Bucks show any sign of rust. But I am not ever around salt water or leave them laying around outside.

Some of the others will have to answer your question about the cpm part

It doesn't look like you are set up right to get pm's of email..... So email me, or pm...
