GSO-12 Who has one on order?

I have to order the GSO 12 after I received my GSO 5.1 today. I already have 4.5, 7/7, 8 and 10 in the pipeline before I ordered the GSO 12. I am too impressed by the S!K build quality.

They do make an awesome blade for sure! I just wish they had more production capacity. I have been thinking about pre-ordering a couple more as well, my only concern is having that much cash paid ahead, awaiting future delivery.

I agree there is some risk but I guess that's how S!K keep their prices so reasonable. It is going to be extremely hard to find something similar in this prize range.

There is a saying.. You want it Fast, Inexpensive, and high quality? You only get to Pick Two..

Guy has taken the burden off you buy picking the two already.. :)

Okay, I know that this knife only exists on paper at this time, but what will the sheath look like?
Most of my large choppers with this much belly have sheaths that are split up the side and the knife is inserted from the side point first and then the blade is levered into them.
While this works I find it less satisfying (and requires more care to avoid hacking up the sheath) than a more traditional design where you just slide it in from the end.
Can this design be dropped into a taco style kydex sheath and lock in without a lot of rattle?
If this question has been addressed before just point me in the right direction for the answer.
Thanks!

I'll be watching here for a response. I was actually thinking this same thing when I was ogling the renderings on the website awhile ago!

I can't tell from those renderings if there is enough "straightness" to the blade for it to be able to be slid into a traditional sheath or not.

I have no idea how it will be designed, but I'll state that my homemade SYKCO ChopHouse sheath is a drop-in pancake style, and I see no reason that this could not also be.

For retention without rattle, all you need is a couple of "clamp" points to keep the blade and handle from shifting. For most S!K sheaths, this is accomplished almost entirely at the handle - there is kydex squeezed against the handle far enough up that any shifting is held to a minimum right there. Some of the sheaths also squeezed the blade bevels a bit (you can see the rub-mark on some 4.1s) to prevent rattle.

The blade just needs a wide enough slot to slip into, the neck of the sheath can grab the handle to mid-way between the first bolts.

Ok. Saw the 12, need the 12.

Quick question. Does the preorder bill now or when it ships?

It bills immediately. Personally, I'm TOTALLY fine with that, but I recognize not everyone is. You can pay now to lock in exactly what you want or you can wait for the normal Monday sales and try your luck. You got options!

Just ordered my 12. Now I am waiting on 3. A 6, 4.5, and 12. I am hoping for a 4.1 also someday...

Hello, Survive! Knives. Yeah, so I took the plunge a little while ago. Congratulations! This is the first fixed blade I've bought in as long as I can remember that doesn't say "Busse" on it. Wait, it doesn't even exist yet and I bought it!  Can't wait to hold it and chop chop chop! Well done! S!K, you have my attention.

Crossing my fingers that the preorder holds till Friday, I don't want to use the credit card anymore, it's starting to smoke.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Ellie usually gives a cut off date and there's nothing posted on the production schedule yet

You're probably right, but I got my 5.1 2nd in, and I can't stand the thought of missing out.. sooo order placed- black canvas, black oxide fasteners, OD green sheath. I'll just have to pay it off on Friday.

We are in!! Did not want to miss out on this one!!;)
