Gso-4.7

Really cool videos. I have been scouring videos after videos talking about Survive!, camp craft, bush craft, and survival skills, but never come across her videos. Thanks for sharing.

I watched a few of her videos last night. Who knew you could own a supressor in the UK? She definitely uses her gear and enjoys what she does.

A suppressor in a few places in Europe is considered "polite". The bigger problem is owning a firearm AT ALL in the UK. It's just unbelievably regulated....

Someone else just posted a pic of his new 4.7 in the Facebook group!

Silver! You know better than mentioning this and not sharing photos!!!

I'm getting lazy! Also I'm too shallow and jealous to look at these pics ;)

Thanks for getting the pic here. That's 3 total that I've seen in the wild!

All these talks about the 4.7 is making me want one. Now wondering if I should just stick to the 5.1 and 4.1 combination or should I still get a 4.7? Truth is I don't need a 4.7.

Of course!! And yes, you probably don't need a third knife. But do you really want to go through life thinking should I have bought that 4.7 when everyone who bought one says how cool it is??

2 is 1, 1 is none.
You need the 5.1, 4.7, and 4.1. And probably a 6, a 7/7, an 8, and a 12.

Just sayin'.

I'm with you. All of the Beckerheads can't get coating off of their blades fast enough, and we are all losing our minds over adding it to ours. If the coating is smooth, and doesn't inhibit cutting performance, I may be convinced of it. Frankly, a non corrosive CPM-3V would be a dream come true. If a coating can offer that, plus amazing wear resistance, and no drag on the blade as it cuts... Sign me up. I tend, at this point, to prefer an uncoated blade. Yes, this means more care in the field, but it's not that big of a burden. I'm no cynic. If we can bring these revolutions or evolutions to S!K blades... Oh, the possibilities!!

I think you nailed it forte. With the evolution of these super steels (more technology in knife steel metallurgy has been created in the past 10 years than in the previous 50+ years combined), I believe we'll see multiple other advances in steel technology.
I would venture that someone, if not Crucible themselves, is working on the issue of finding the right properties of 3V and adding other components to increase corrosive resistance. Guy has proven that he believes in the right steel for the right knife. If a steel is created that combines the properties of 3V with the corrosion resistance of the stainless super steels, I'd bet that Guy will try it.
Imagine the entire S!K series in a steel that has the toughness and edge holding capability of 3V and the corrosion resistance of 20CV all in one. Wow.

I would be surprised if we don't see it in 2016 or 2017. The steel manufacturers are now right in there with other technology companies. New and improved technology in steel will sell. It's all about sustainability and competition.

Putting it simply, if you and I could create that next level of steel as mentioned above, not a copy like Crucible 20CV is just a U.S. version of Bohler M390, but a brand new formula that kept the toughness properties and added that corrosion resistance, the knife companies would buy it and the other steel companies would mimic it. And there are many other industries that would buy it as well. It's coming.

What a great time to be a knife user and enthusiast.

I think between the lengthy refinishing process of the compromised 5.1's and Guy's family emergency it is going to be awhile. It SUCKS about the 5.1's that are going months beyond the forecast, but I'm just waiting for my order, I can't imagine the feeling in the shop when a whole bunch of material showed up not ready to sharpen and ship. Dang! At least Guy has the means to fix it.

I was really hoping to see my 4.7 in Februrary, but after seeing a guy in the Facebook group complain about no Monday sales happening this week, I realized I need to simmer down. Life happens and I'm glad Guy has the priorities he does. My 4.7 will get here when it gets here. I'm ready :D

I am taking the 5 and 4.1 out today to do some work at my lease and put them through their paces. The more I handle them and the more I read, I think this 4.7 may be the right size in the middle of those two. In working on a hog and deer last year with my 3.5, it performed well but on the hog it seemed smallish at times.
I now have the 4.1 and the 5. The 4.1 seems as though it could be a tad bigger and the 5 is a little thick for my uses.
Don't beat me down here but my ESEE Junglas is my "go to" big blade for chopping, batoning, and heavy work. I had the GSO 10 but it's better for my sanity to beat on my $88.00 Junglas than a $300.00 GSO 10. Anyway, the 4.7 might just be the perfect one for my uses. Silver, We'll need multiple photos of the 4.7 along side all the other S!K's you own. MULTIPLE pics. ;)

Someone will likely ask about this "$88.00 Junglas ". I bought a new one when the FDE coating came out. I'm a kydex bender so I sold off all of the other components and built my own sheath system. The end result was the $88.00 cost to me on the knife after selling the other stuff.

Have fun, Hale! I'll be looking forward to hearing your thoughts after all the use.

I have gone back and forth in my mind quite a bit since I found SURVIVE! (or did SURVIVE! find me???). Schrade has some models that interest me and I think about beating on a $50 chopper without caring about breaking it because of the low price................ but then I think why not just wail on a GSO 10 knowing that it won't fail. Then I go back and forth all over again. My final thought recently has been: even if I'm spending $50 on a really big knife that's like a quarter of another 4.7! Gotta stay the course and keep saving!

Ahhh the beloved Junglas! You won't hear me bashing that knife in any way. It's by far my favorite ESEE ever made and the only thing that could make it better would be a super steel but that would defeat the main purpose of being a easily sharpened, very affordable chopper. Just talking about them makes me want another one!

 Not the Izula??

And I thought a major purpose of the Junglas was bashing :D

My 7-yr-old has claimed my green Izula for herself. And i was seriously considering a Junglas when Guy's first GSO-10 pre-order started. Providence smiled on me. Come by my place on a day-off when a fence-line needs clearing or a tree needs processing, you'll definitely hear me bashing my GSO-10 :)
