"...1% carbon type steel..."

I am pretty ignorant when it comes to steel composition. Can one of you guys with a big ol' brain full of steel knowledge explain what the above quote means.

I'm far from an expert, but most steel has carbon in it of various percentages, so this particular one has around 1% and by saying "carbon type" I believe he's just basically saying it's not a stainless variety

Great links, forte_defense. Thank you.

So it appears That 1% carbon would mean stainless, and a number of different steels fit into that category.

That 15 second video made me very glad I pre-ordered 2, one in each steel. That handle looks really comfortable, almost as good as a Busse ASH1 magnum (which I have never held, but I think looks like the most comfortable handle ever). I'm really looking forward to delivery now!

I'll put all the fun of playing "guess that steel" aside for a second to say... whatever!

S!K can pick whatever steel they want, and you know what? I am 100% sure that they will make a great choice and do a great job making knives from that steel. That is the cool thing about S!K; they do things right. It might take a while, but I know that the cool new S!K models will be a GREAT bargain and built to last a lifetime... end fan-boy rant. Back to "guess that steel."

WTH do you mean it is not going to be stainless!?!?!?! That make NO sense! :D

Maybe it's 52100 steel? That's my guess.
I was holding back on 52100, but that's my guess, too. It's right around the 1% carbon content Guy mentioned, and is non-stainless. It's gaining popularity, and I think it could be the one. I have a custom puukko made of the stuff, and I am quite impressed.

I have 4 knives from AA Forge in 52100 and I think it is an awesome steel. I am sure Guy would do wonders with it.

Quit trying to out-fanboy me :p

Our plan is to send out a few unmarked "secret steel" knives, in order to get some unbiased feedback from users. Once we hear back from those people, we will let everyone in on the details.

Edit to add: Don't worry, I will keep you all updated on here.
