Gso-4.7

I was unaware that 154 was offered. Are they currently available to order? I have never been on Instagram. For those not able to do that, I take it that there are possibly some models that will be available in CPM 154 and another steel. But the website does not appear to mention that at all. Is Instagram the way they release information?

Guy's only complaint with a pass around is that the 2nd, 3rd, so on folks are essentially getting a used blade. He cares a lot about the condition of the edge for anyone who gets a SURVIVE!.
I know Guy has a scary-sharp-upon-arrival precedent to uphold, but those involved I'm sure would understand the situation enough not to expect that in this case. With that said, I was just throwing the idea out there. Please don't go out of your way or go along with this if you don't absolutely love the idea! Seriously.

I don't want to be misunderstood as being argumentative, because that isn't my intent. I know Survive! values customer feedback, but they don't have to prove anything to us, nor do they need our appraisal of a knife's performance. They have proven themselves by making a high quality product in the U.S.A., by standing behind it, and by offering unprecedented customer service and customer relations.

I am sure we would all enjoy beating on a knife beyond what we would actually do to our own knives, because we are all curious what these knives can take. I don't think, however, that it's the company's responsibility to provide this. (I have 8 Survive! knives as I write this, and 4 on order. I would not have this sort of investment if I had doubts about the capabilities of their knives or the quality of their products.) I don't put my own knives through torture tests, and I don't share my knives with anyone who would.

I would gladly participate in a pass around, and I am willing to pony up my portion with anyone else who will join me... But this is not Survive!'s duty to provide. And I don't agree that any of us should expect it... Ever. They owe us nothing.

Still love me? (Did you ever? LOL)
Did you read my post??? Maybe reread it and tell me what you think. Did I sound demanding? What did I say that made you think that Guy and Ellie owe this to me? I don't think any of us (me especially) feel that SURVIVE! has to prove anything or that they owe us anything. I just thought it would be a fun idea for the community members who were interested if it was easy for Guy and Ellie to do. If they can assess the new materials without the input of a backyard warrior like myself, I trust their judgement completely. I also wouldn't expect them to take a knife that they could make money on just for us to beat it up. Honestly the idea came to me when I saw the heavily used 4.7's on instagram. That's why I specifically suggested using an extra blade that was just sitting around. Trust me I don't have my hopes up. I was just thinking out loud. Sorry for the confusion. I still love you :)

Follow the links I posted in the speculation thread. They take you to the instagram stuff through your browser. Sometimes Guy will mention stuff on instagram or Facebook and I try to get the information back here. The CPM154cm and mystery steel cannot be ordered at this time. It is kind of a trial run and there hasn't been an official plan set yet.

Thanks for loving me. And I wasn't aiming at you or anyone, Silver. Rather, I was just trying to keep it from escalating beyond the realm of acceptable. I don't want it to become a "yeah, me too," to the point where it seems we're becoming entitled. You have the benefit of a couple hundred doubts with me... I was sensitive to Ellie's response of "Guys only complaint was..." I don't want us, as a community (of which I am a relatively new, but growing part), to push through their boundaries. I saw that happen on a Daniel Winkler Knives thread. Mr. Winkler was very classy in his reply, but the "community" backed him into a corner in which he did not belong.

We're all good. And I enjoy the S!K community in its present state. I had some exposure to a less civil representation of people who were not quite as civil regarding the infancy of S!K. Now, in their adolescence (follow me?) as a growing small business, I hope the S!K community remains appreciative of what we have been given... A great company, turning out superior products, at an amazingly fair price.

Dang it... I knew I should have kept my mouth shut. I wanted to be received in the way I intended... Just like you, Silver. I love you, too.

Ellie has said that Guy is more active on Instagram, and she is more active here. I'm not an instagram or facebook user, so I really appreciate Silver Needle and others keeping us up to date with some of the teasers Guy posts there.

That makes sense, you have very noble intentions. I don't have the perspective that you do, so I didn't think to how things could escalate. Like I said, I was just putting the idea out there in case it happened to appeal to Guy or Ellie. If they don't like the idea, it won't stop me from continuing to save for a GSO 8!

Edit to say: yesterday was a disappointment and frustration filled nightmare at work, but I'm in my happy place again this morning. Forte, I'm glad you feel comfortable enough to speak your mind in support of Guy and Ellie

I just thought it may be a way to get some that are on a fence a way to check out a new design and make better S! oriented choices. I wouldn't want the S! Crew to do something they didn't want to just cause of pressure from out side. They obviously know what their doing so far every batch has been sold out with more people crying for more blades. Keep up the good work S! Crew!!!

If somebody wants to do a pass-around on an old-spec GSO-4.1 with the new HT & finish, I might be able to help with that. Another option for folks might be a "buy-back" deal between themselves and a S!K owner - they pay for the knife with the guarantee (word of honor) to sell it back to the previous owner? I don't know, just floating some ideas.

I would LOVE to try whatever new steel Survive! has in the pipeline, and again promise to make a video or whatever else might be required to make the cut  I would definitely be willing to pay for the knife up-front and have it be my knife that gets passed around if so arranged on this forum. I'm in.

As far as the pass-around goes, I say "meh".

(brace for 48 year old man being fan-boy)

S!K has done a great job of listening to consumer feedback with the most updated versions of the knives. S!K also does a GREAT job of beating the shit out of their knives in-house and refining the design based on what they learn during testing process. Seriously, take a look at the S!K designs; these things are the epitome of functional minimalism! While I would like to think that I could provide some constructive feedback if I participated in a pass-around, the reality is that I probably have little of value to add... and neither do the VAST majority of posters on this sub-form. ;) S!K really has little to gain from a pass-around, and given Guy's OCD over customers only getting perfect knives the pass-around would be a real PITA for him. I want Guy and his team to focus on building more knives and being successful, and I don't think a pass-around will contribute to that.

I am excited to see the newest S!K knives, and plan to buy a few when they are available. Until then... I'm cool and don't need a pass-around.

Cheers!

We don't 'need' a pass around
It would be fun though

This sums up my thoughts. I was just putting it out there , people!

I think that this sub-forum is great and I really like the majority of the folks that post here. I apologize if my earlier post came off as overly negative. For the record, it was not my intent to condescend to those who wanted a pass-around. I have just seen how they go with other brands and it isn't always great.

Maybe that's my problem, I don't have any experience with other passarounds, so I was only seeing the positive outcomes..... as in all of us taking turns playing with a new model GSO.

Precisely my point. Precisely my intent.

Weren't we talking about the awesome new 4.7 in this subforum? I'm curious to see if it will replace the 4.1 as my "go-to," and my obsession persists in pursuit of my "one knife solution". I have found myself using the 3.5 for game processing, and the 4.1 for just about everything else. That 4.7 speaks to me, but I think it's too big to quarter and bone out a deer... A role that may be assumed by the 2.7. First world problems.
