Gso 6

Fine looking knives. I have a 6 and an 8 on order. I really like my 5.1, but I can see the 6 replacing it in specific roles.

I have no use for a choil so it was an easy choice for me between the 5.1 and the 6. I love my 3.5 and my 6's, loved the 4.1, 5, and I'm hoping that my 12 will be as awesome as the others I've owned.

The 4.1, 5 and 6 are nice for one tool options.

I'm about to buy my first GSO and am already thinking to my next. So strange...

Anyway, how long has the 6 been available for presale? I could be wrong, but it seems to have been there for a while, so I'm wondering if they aren't as popular as their other models.

We here in the SURVIVE! subforum support this decision!

My short answer: if you like the 6 and it looks to fit your needs, get it!

Long answer: take a look at what I copied from the production page on the website. The group at the top are new or redesigned models offered in the starter campaign. The last 5 on the list were not part of the starter, but became available for presale later on. I can't remember when this was, but over the summer at some point. There may be a better answer out there, but I think the starter models were either new models or the most popular ones that were redesigned. Compared to the 5.1 and 4.1 I don't think the 6 was as popular, BUT that doesn't mean it isn't amazing and perfect for your needs. When Ellie last spoke on the subject, the 6 was tied for first place with the 4.5 to go into production first after the starter models. That says a lot especially with how popular the 10 was/is. Back in the day, nobody seemed as excited about the 5 as they were with the 5.1 and 4.1. Good reviews were harder to find and nobody seemed to talk about it as much. I still knew it was the one for me and when I got it in my hands, I knew my instincts were right.

Here is the current SURVIVE! production schedule:

Necker II: Stay tuned for availability updates
GSO-5.1: Preorders will be shipping out over the next few weeks
GSO-4.7: Just waiting on handles to be completed. Preorders are scheduled to begin shipping after Christmas
GSO-2.7: At production grinding
GSO-4.1: Sheets of steel are being cut into blades
Once models start production they will no longer be available for preorder. Production will begin on the remaining models in the following order:

GSO-7/7: Up next for production!
GSO-3.5
GSO-12
Once the above models have all started production, SURVIVE! will determine a production order for the remaining GSO knives:

GSO-4.5 Bushcraft Knife
GSO-6
GSO-8
GSO-10
Necker

I just preordered the 6. Now going to settle back and (eagerly) follow the production schedule!

The quoted poster is a cool guy! He buys a quality knife and knows enough to relax and where to watch for updates.:thumbup:

Yups my first Survive! moving up from a mora. I carry a ZT 0566 but wanted a fixed blade for hiking and general use.

Great choice. I think you'll be pleased with your choice. Can't go wrong with anything S! but be careful their addictive.

I think that I will be safe as far as the addiction goes, at least until the kitchen knife comes out... and then the folder... but the 2.7 looks interesting...

ok I see what you mean!:D

I am curious as to why the specs are slightly different from the 5.1 to the 6, I thought the 6 was a choiless 5.1?

Is it for balance? I was thinking if it really was a choiless 5.1 we could have had them in production already... :D

I think the 5.1 is based on the now discontinued 5.0, with a choil added. The 6.0 is that length from handle to tip. Regardless, having watched Survive!s production over the years, I doubt it would have made a difference either way. Make a preorder, then be certain that it will come, and that the wait will be worth it. It's all part of it, like the pain of a tattoo somehow adds to the value/commitment of it's owner. Only S!Ks last longer ;)
