Gso-6 ?

Personally the last knife I would want for any kind of field use is a Folder-I will take the 4.7, or 4.1 with a full tang any day, all day-but that's just me!!
:)

Don't bother me none, I'm just a wild and crazy guy.

5-7" choiless, 8-10" I like a choil but that's just me. Under 5" tends to be a folder.

I like a fixed over a folder, it just seems when I'm using a knife under 5", it's because I pulled it out of my pocket. Hence why I said tends to be a folder.
My BK24 3.25" blade rides with my BK9 and I have a BK17 4.375" blade but these are the only fixed blades I have under 5". Boils down to convenience I guess, I tend to always have a folder on me, can't always carry a longer blade.

For good all around field use. I'm thinking the GSO 6 might be the ticket for me.

Thanks Fancier, once I free up funds I'll order a Gso 6. Honestly, I love the preorder thing. I wonder...how fast are the knives selling out on Mondays?

I hate to say it, but because of a very vocal negativite faction, it is almost a lose/lose situation for Guy and Ellie. They knew going into the new Monday sales format that they'd get quite a bit of backlash, but it is better for THEM on their end, so I support it! The preorder had a lot of pluses, but so does the Monday sales. People will just complain either way. I only say this NOT because I interpreted your comment as whining, but just as background.

As to your question, I believe the 3v models would sell out in minutes.... as in the minutes you could count on one hand. 20cv lasted longer, maybe 20ish minutes. I base this off of following comments not actually trying to buy myself.

Thanks for the info Silver Needle. I too support Guy and Ellie's Monday Sales. I just loved the idea of being guaranteed a knife. Sure that I'll break down soon and buy a 6. Might as well, I have a 4.7 and 12 on order already.

I have my pre-order 6 in and don't mind the wait at all, I think it's so awesome and extremely rare for a business to not settle/compromise on quality to turn a quick buck!! So with that in mind I did get lucky and score a factory 2nd GSO 5.1 haha!! Here is to our journey that will eventually lead to us having in my opinion the best knife our money could buy!! 🍻🍺👍🏽

Have my pre-order in for the GSO 6 as well and was able to pick up a GSO 5.1. After handling the 5.1, I really like the knife but just not sold on the choil, probably will sell it and order another 6 before the pre-order period ends.
But having been able to handle 5.1 solidified the fact that Survive! knives are what I've been looking for in a knife this size and that the 6 is ideal for me.
I agree, for dollars spent, these knives are hard to beat.

What a great affirmation! I'm with you on the choils... or lack thereof of. I can't wait to try the new handles!

I did the double down. If both were available at the same time, I would likely only get a 6. However! Now that I have my 5.1, it would take a lot to pry it from me, even after I order my 6 ;P

Well, got another GSO 6 pre-ordered and I feel so good about it!

I still Gotta sell my 5.1 2nd but after the "foreshadowing hint" of a price increase due to the new heat treat, I figured I would go ahead and get the second GSO 6 ordered.

What price increase ???
Even on pre order blades ???
Is this true ???

Ellie hinted that perhaps the new HT might cause a price increase. I'm 100% certain there will be no increases for anyone who has already paid for a knife, but I'd say it's a possibility that for future pre-orders it could happen. Nothing has been formally announced yet though.

We won't change the price on preorders, but prices may change as the knives become available for regular ordering. We did receive a notice saying that the general heat treating costs are going up. On top of that, we are expecting the new protocol to be a bit more expensive. We will have a better idea once these GSO-4.1s are done. At that time we will be able to make a more solid plan.

Ellie,
How much longer will the 6 be open to preorder? Rough estimate?

(Please say another couple weeks...) I need to sort out a couple other commitments and I want to order one!

My best guess is that you have at least another month, probably longer, before the 6 ordering closes.
The trend has been to space the closing of the models by a couple of months and the 12 is still open for orders.

According to the production schedule this comment still holds true.

Thanks for the info
The new gso 6 is the perfect design in my book

Resurrecting this thread because I don't know how much longer these pre-orders will be around!

This is my first S!K, and I went with the CPM20CV because I figured when I'm using this knife, I won't be able to clean it as quickly and don't want it to rust if I can't clean it up fast enough. It sounds like a low-maintenance steel, which is nice; but I'm not sure if the 3V performance is that much better that I should consider switching it (especially if the heat treatment makes it as low-maintenance as 20CV). I know folks have debated this to death in other threads on here, but I just wanted to hear what other 6 preorder-ers think.

I have a 5.1 but the I feel the choil is wasted space. I really like the 5.1 size and handling enough and it is close enough to the 6 that I've ordered 3. Two in 3v and one in 20cv.

Went with 3V myself for my GSO 6's because the new heat treat looks to get the most out of it.

The GSO 6 it right at that size where either steel would be a great choice, a 6" blade puts it at the starting range where I might do some chopping or batoning or splitting a pelvic bone so 3V gives me some extra toughness but for edge retention and corrosion resistance for gutting an animal, use in humid/wet conditions or food prep then 20CV would be a good choice and this size is still not too big.

My planned use for the GSO 6 is for hunting, for use in addition to my smaller hunting knife for joints and pelvic bones and for general woods carry where I don't know what I'll end up using it for. Either steel is good, I'm just leaning towards 3V for this knife for toughness, but if I went with a GSO 3.5, 4.1 or even a 4.7 I would probably lean towards the 20CV. JMHO YMMV
