Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks David, I remember noticing the church the last time I passed through Masham on the weekly Ripon-Richmond bus :) I must be due another visit, it's been a good few years since I was last in Masham

Looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks ;) :D

Aye looking forward to our meet up to! :)
It was the first time I'd had a proper walk around Masham.
There's even a couple of butchers there for the inevitable pie(s).:)
In fact....
Beavers Butchers.

I had a draft going quoting Jack Black Jack Black and @Cambertree about the things to do with a pocketknife book, but I can't even locate the thread. I was saying that it's got to be a good thing that that book sold out. But I'll bet the authorities have stepped in to see that it doesn't happen again.
Anyway, I whittled both of these whistles and chains out of a single piece of onyx!

Keeping with the cut throat theme. This was my grandad's.

Me too mate :) Is that cranberry on that pie? Great pics, and it's nice you have your granddad's razor :) Mine was still using a straight razor when he was about 70, but concerned for his safety, his sons persuaded to swap it for a new-fangled thing, think they got him a Gilette Techmatic if anyone remembers those  I imagine he went back to the straight-razor when the first 'head' ran out! :D

Good morning, Guardians!

Morning Vince, couple of stunners there my friend :)

Holy Cow, you guys have been busy this morning...

Your fu is strong, John!:D
Your Quote-fu is strong as well. :D

The Hartshead Barlow is a much anticipated knife. Not only am I thrilled to be able to reap the rewards of Jack's thoughtful labor, but I have been eager to experience the culmination of arguably the two greatest working patterns in cutlery history; the Lambsfoot and the Barlow. Combined, it makes for a formidable working pattern.

I opted to only get one of these and I took a shot at the Stag lottery. Stag is a cover material that I've grown to love but like many folks, I can be very picky. If I am thinking less objectively, I LOVE the knife. If I remove the subjectivity and pick at the things I know would bother me, then I would certainly find some things to criticize. The pile side has very little texture (almost smooth) but its color is tremendous and the thickness is rather evenly reasonable. The pile side has some great texture and character but also sports some rather hand filling thickness, very similar to Ron's actually. But as GT has alluded to, it is on the "right" side and it nestles in the hand extremely comfortably.

First impressions are that this is a big, no-nonsense, hefty knife. This is a knife that gets things done. Though it might be a bit of a brick in the pocket, its solid presence will certainly make for a reassuring token of what it is capable of. The steel construction, classy bolster stamp, and elegant etch all come together to form a knife that represents some of the best Sheffield has to offer. A sturdy, beautiful example of the cutler's art, Jack should be most pleased with these and I am so very happy that I could take part.

Thank you, Jack, for your efforts on these, they are simply superb. Also, thank you so much for the extras! The case will get immediate use, my Irish cigarillos fit perfectly in it. Also the pipe topper will be an excellent experiment, I've never tried one before but I can certainly see the merit.

Excellent write-up and pictures. Stag is such an individual thing. Some like it uniform and others like it all "wild and wonky".

Morning Guardians, hope everyone's week is going OK :) Raining again here, but I don't think I'm going to be able to get out today anyway :( Nice to see more Hartshead Barlows arriving (more than my emails would indicate), and great to see a few Guardians manage to score Charlie's US-made Lambsfoot :)

Good Morning, Jack.
I'm afraid I'm guilty of forgetting to email. It's easy to do when the excitement of the knife hits you. I will remedy that immediately.

Having my coffee at home today

Goor morning, Guardians!

Vince, I love seeing those calico colors in your Barlow. Super nice specimen.

Good Morning Guardians.
My workhorse was feeling a bit jealous, so the rosewood is getting pocket time today.

Thanks John, yes, I think a few of mine are missing their pocket-time :) It's easy to be bedazzled by the Fancy Dans, but the wood models are great users :) Having said that, I definitely plan to put my Barlow to use :)

Those Waynorth Lambfoots are stunning! Congratulations, Charlie, and to everyone here who scored one. With the Hartshead on its way, and a forum knife down the line, I decided to forgo the hunt, but they are lovely to see. :)

Glad it made it Rachel :) Sorry I couldn't find any Henderson's Relish crisps (potato chips) for you :(
I'm sure that would have been a treat. :) I can't imagine they'd be better than Marmite Cashews, though! I look forward to closer inspection of everything in that box.

First, I've got to give the Hartshead its due. All the stag shown so far has been excellent, but the rosewood has its own charm, as well. Elegant and sturdy, it's begging to be used. The sun is up, so pictures must be taken. The joints are flushed and oiled, and I plan to give the edge a bit of honing and put it to use. I really look forward to seeing how the bolsters patina.:thumbsup:

I am eagerly anticipating some worthy additions to this burgeoning family (I think I need to update the pic, it is missing some).

Great pictures and that’s a lovely lambsfoot line up! Congratulations also on your to new arrivals. Thanks for the detailed write up on both.

Great pics Greg :) Yeah, I know what you mean about cutting on plates, not good for the plate or your knife edge, I avoid it when I can

LOL! Very clever :D  I have to tell you though, that very few bits of packaging doesn't get recycled round at Grumble Towers, most of it goes back across the pond! :D The amount of packaging I've got through recently is frightening! I am finally starting to see my kitchen table again though :)

Cheers ;)

Thanks Jack. Reusing is even better than recycling. Kudos. :)

And, cheers! That IPA sounds tasty and your Rosewood Hartshead

Nice to see a Hartshead doing some real work.

It likes it. It keeps asking for another task. :D

Jack, you worked so hard on this project you deserve high praise!!! The stag is wonderful on my example as is the rosewood; very pleasing!

A beautiful pair. Congrats!

Ptolemaic Perturbation of Pluto's Perigee, Greg, most of my knives get carried only 2-4 weeks out of the year and they're sharing that time with a dozen other knives, so they don't do very much cutting.:thumbsup: Thanks for volunteering for patina patrol, fellow Guardian!:thumbsup::)

Thanks, GT! Happy to play my little part. ;)

Lam Jack for me this week:
lj-goldwatch-open-sunray-jpg.1150590

Do you carry a pocket watch, or is it just there as a Power Pellet for Lam Jack?

@5K Qs when ever I see you have quoted one of my posts it puts a smile on may face! Thanks GT!!!!

So true!

Apparently shipping from the U.K. is a bit faster than I expected. I just checked the mail and had a nice little surprise waiting for me. The A Wright and Son sway back ("shaped") Lamb's Foot came in!

Congratulations and welcome!

I do that, too! It's very satisfying, the only thing more fun to do with those packing pillows is to duct tape them to the top of your buddy's tires. :D

Oh! That’s funny. Much better than stomping on them.

Aaaand, Mail Call today was a ecstatic time, the anticipation is over, and such a grand parcel!
Just Awsome, Jack! Thank you again!!:)

Congratulations! It looks great!

It is going to be hard to start using the Heartsheads, I'll have to start small, maybe cutting toast or somthing!
Your Rosewood looks great!

Baby steps.... ;):D

I couldn't tell. They look professional to me! And damned tasty to!

Thank you, that’s very kind. I can attest that they are tasty, at least.

I’m still anxiously awaiting for my dealer to send my Waynorth Lambsfoot notices so I decided to carry both of my Hartshead Barlow’s to get better acquainted with them! :D

I'm sure they'll be glad of the exercise Ron ;)

Good morning Guardians! RALF and yours truly are enjoying a little white tea with lime and honey for breakfast.

Morning you too! :D

Keep calm and carry a Lambsfoot.

The Marmite cashews are definitely better! :) The crisps are posh ones ('hand-cut' - as if!), kind of overpriced, and so you don't see them many places unfortunately :( Glad you're liking your Barlow Rachel

Thanks Jack. Reusing is even better than recycling. Kudos. :)

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get hold of a quality cardboard box here Greg! Half the ones I buy online I can't use  I spend a lot of time thinking about how I am going to package things, and getting the packaging as cheaply as I can. The postage is dear enough as it is! o_O Talking of packaging, when the dust settles, I'd be interested to know if anyone has any plans for their tins, I thought they were a nice size :)

It's too dark for good pictures, but a box of treats and treasures arrived today! I'm overwhelmed
Fantastic box of wonderment Rachel!

That ebony (drool emoji).
Thanks John.

Awsome! Congratulations, Dwight! They do look amazing!
Thank you Dennis.

And another one from a master! Nice shot, Dwight!
Much obliged pal.

Absolutely gorgeous barlow! :D

I took a mail call earlier today and retrieved not just one, but two different Lambsfoot knives. One from our very own Jack and the other (through indirect means (aka, a dealer)) from Charlie

Oh that ebony is just stunning. Blackest of black.
Thanks David and oh how happy I am to finally have some super dark ebony! :D

Keeping with the cut throat theme. This was my grandad's.
Beautiful and super fine keepsakes.

Thank you Harvey, that's a beautiful pic :)

It didn't take me long to figure out what I was going to do with my tin. And yes, it is the perfect size, as least for my little collection.

LOL! :D That works John :)
