Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Waxing Moons in a Whirlpool Galaxy, FBC, that Volvo wagon is out-of-this-world, and old Black Betty is looking earthy as ever! ;):thumbsup:

Lam Jack for me this week:
lj-goldwatch-open-sunray-jpg.1150590

Lam Jack is out of this world, GT.
I dig that pocket watch too.

The Hartshead Barlows showed up just in time for my last day of work. I tossed the Rosewood, that Jack so graciously sent just for the occasion, in my pocket and put in the last day.
I was wondering if other countries have the "two week notice" or is it just us silly Americans that will tell their boss "I quit" and work two more weeks so they can try to find someone to replace you.
Come to think of it, when they fire you they don't give you two weeks notice so you can find another job...... I am starting to feel like I have been duped ! I have a Hartshead Barlow in my pocket, nothing can bring me down, not even "the man" tricking me into working a extra two weeks! ;):D

Kevin, I've had some jobs where I gave two weeks' notice, and was okay with it, but I've had others where I walked out before my shift ended and felt great! Wish you the best, man!

What a great knife

Excellent photo Taylor :)

That's unfortunate. But, I'm not surprised at all that you take such good care for your packages, even if it causes you a bit of consternation.

You know, I hadn't really thought about it, but the Hartshead will be spending most of its time in my pocket or being on-deck, so the tin does need to find a good use. I think I'll use it to hold the little first aid kit that I tuck into my pack when I'm going to be whittling away from home. It'll be a huge upgrade from the Ziploc snack bag that's holding it now. :)

...

Fantastic to see. I'm definitely pro-patina when it comes to A. Wright Lambsfoot blades. It can be a bit slow to form, but turns out quite lovely, in my opinion.

Great story, Jack. Thanks for sharing it. I agree with the others' assessment of its quality. Very well made, indeed.

Thanks Greg, good idea, I might even use mine for that. Hope you never need your first aid kit for anything serious my friend

I think these satin-finished blades will patina more quickly than the polished blades, but probably won't show the spectacular colours you get in the first stages of patina with the latter. Thanks again Greg, I'll be sure to pass on all the positive comments

Of all the pocket slips I own these are by far my favorites. I will probably never use any of the others from now on. The material is exquisite and her workmanship spot on. Thanks again Jack!

... :D ... thanks for the reminder... :D ...

Thank you Greg. I appreciate that!

That's fantastic to hear Dwight, I'm glad you're so pleased with it :) Smashing pic :)

Looking good Rachel :)

Hey Guardians...Glad to finally join!

I have an A. Wright question. I ordered a 4” Lambfoot in stag, and when arrived I noticed the blade is way off center. This is obviously a main blade from a 2 blade model. Is this common?

QEMFYdK.jpg

XGMqspI.jpg

I don't think that's a blade from a two-blade model, since Wright's don't do a two-blade model with that size blade. It looks like the blade might have warped post-HT, which I have seen before. How is it in the open position, is the blade straight? I'd say that off-centre blades are the most common fault with Wright's knives, affecting only a small minority, but it's still annoying when you get one. Most of the ones I've had with off-centre blades have been in the larger size. While I don't think you can automatically expect a perfectly centred blade on a factory-made knife, off-centre blades are something I dislike considerably, and I won't accept them from Wright's. Unfortunately, until the beginning of this year, Wright's sold their 'seconds' to dealers, and also out of the factory door, and these sub-standard knives are not marked in any way, so are sold online by unscrupulous individuals and dealers. They have some poor dealers, who don't properly check their stock, and who have a very low turnover, so are still selling knives made some years ago, when the overall quality of Wright's knives was lower. With knives I've bought online, from other manufacturers, I've been stuck with them. However, Wright's are reasonably receptive to complaints from customers, and I would contact them. It's worth noting that their website is not run by them, but by a dealer. Hope that's helpful, and that you get a better example from Wright's

Appropriate timing Kevin, congratulations on your last day at that place  I have had jobs where they asked for a week's notice, salaried jobs where it is a month, and other jobs where I gave no notice at all. So what now Kevin, good luck with everything my friend? Great pic :)

Whew! I had planned on being much more active on the forum today, but I've had a heck of a day, let me tell ya!

So I've gone on a little overboard acquiring knives these last couple of weeks and my wife hasn't come close to batting an eye. She's pretty awesome. She's been having a rough time at work and her headset just gave out so I thought I would buy her a new set of AirPods to replace them and earn some brownie points (and maybe ease some guilt, lol?). :D

Unfortunately my old address was still saved in my Costco info and they shipped across town. I went over there within twenty minutes of getting the delivery notice and knocked on the door. No one answered but a dog started going crazy. I waited a couple minutes and no one came so I knocked again. Again the dog went crazy. I figured no one was home (no cars parked outside) so I figured I'd wait a few minutes to see if they would come home. Maybe they went to the UPS store to return the package.

A couple minutes later I hear a very muffled sneeze and look up and notice the master bedroom window is wide open with the blinds closed (it's not an area you'd leave your windows open if you leave, which is part of the reason why we moved). I knocked again and it was DEAD QUIET. No dog barking or scratching at the door this time. Just silence.

On a hunch I pretended to call my wife and say that I was at the front door and no one was answering... But that I had heard someone sneeze, and I didn't know what to do. I said (in a voice slightly louder than needed to be so I could be heard through the window) that maybe I should call the police since tampering with the mail was a federal offense (it was UPS so that was false) and the value of the item was high enough to be a felony (also false as the value of the AirPods is only $180). In the middle of saying that I heard what sounded like an elephant running down the stairs. A man opened the door and before I could say anything said "You must be Fixall" and handed me an opened package containing my wife's AirPods.

Ugh.

Then after that, my wife noticed I was a bit warm so it was back to the hospital for another shot of antibiotics to the butt, lol. I hope I kick this infection/illness soon! Sleeping after shoulder surgery is a hassle, but sleeping when you're burning up is darn near impossible!

On the bright side... Thanks to Jack Black Jack Black I should have some nice pictures for you all soon. :D Thanks again Jack!

Eight days is pretty good :) I think @scrteened porch still holds the record, I think he took delivery in 3 days if I remember correctly! Wright's make those knives to a price, and since most of the cost is the cutler's time, they can't afford to spend too long on them, but they can still be very nice, and certainly a great user  Sounds like you've jumped in with both feet! :D

Holy cow! Three days!? He must live on the east coast I'm guessing? I find that absolutely incredible and awesome for some reason, lol.

I imagine experience REALLY comes into play in that type of situation. In any case, they certainly did a fantastic job on my specimen. I love being blown away by a low cost gem... But then again sometimes it makes me look at my $200+ and question my sanity, lol.

I think you're right about that... But is there really any other way? :D Anything worth doing, is worth doing right after all right?

First, I've got to give the Hartshead its due. All the stag shown so far has been excellent, but the rosewood has its own charm, as well. Elegant and sturdy, it's begging to be used. The sun is up, so pictures must be taken. The joints are flushed and oiled, and I plan to give the edge a bit of honing and put it to use. I really look forward to seeing how the bolsters patina.:thumbsup:

Beautiful, beautiful knife! I'm with you 100% on the rosewood. I have nothing against stag whatsoever, but I've found my hand and eye is continuously drawn to my natural wood offerings when it comes to grab a knife for the pocket. The warmth and feel you get from wood just can't be found in any other cover/scale offering in my opinion.

Congratulations and welcome!

Thanks! It's nice to be a part of the community. Great group of people you have here!

Congrats on the basic rosewood lamb, Fixall Fixall !:thumbsup::cool: I have one that I'm very fond of. :)

Thank you, they did a great job on it. It was a wonderful way to dip my toes into the Lambsfoot pattern, I was quite pleased.

Sounds like you had quite a day Fixall Fixall ! Glad to hear you're on the mend :)

Thank you. It was definitely more exciting than the day of cleaning/oiling knives and binge-watching "House" that I had planned, lol. I get the stitches out tomorrow which should ease some of the pain and issues and then I should be able to get back to sharpening in no time. I'm excited for that! I love setting an edge on a new knife, and nothing beats sharpening a straight edge like a Lambsfoot/Wharncliffe/Sheepsfoot/etc!

No worries Greg I'm pretty sure I've missed a baker's dozen in reply. When I started as an apprentice all I had to use was a 15lb hand crank stuffer,so when you had an order of 100 lbs or so it was a lot of casings and a lot of cranking. About the time I was ready to leave the butcher shop the owner bought a power stuffer that held 75lbs at a time. The one positive was, I could arm wrestle guys twice my size after that. :p

That's the way it goes some times, isn't it? I would have loved to see the look on those guys' faces when you explained your "workout routine". ;)

Great picture, r8shell.

The Hartshead Barlows showed up just in time for my last day of work.

Congrats on their arrival and on this next phase of your life. Best wishes for whatever's coming next.

Have a great one, Guardians!

You, too, Vince! Thanks for the reminder that Wright's Rosewood doesn't just come in Barlow form. ;) I quite like that model.

Thanks Greg, good idea, I might even use mine for that. Hope you never need your first aid kit for anything serious my friend

Thanks Jack. I hope you don't ever need yours, either.

Interesting probable patina progression prediction for these blades. I'm looking forward to finding out... :)

Whew! I had planned on being much more active on the forum today, but I've had a heck of a day, let me tell ya!

Wow. That's quite a day, alright. Glad everything worked out with the package and I hope you're back to 100% health soon.

The first outdoor photos!:cool::thumbsup:

Hooray. The Hartsheads do enjoy being out-of-doors. :D

Great picture! It really captures the beautiful details of the wood.

Good morning Guardians (and afternoon :))View attachment 1151382

Good morning to you, as well! Your photo reminds me of that cartoon of one fish about to swallow another fish that is about to swallow another fish that is about to swallow... :D

Y’all have a great Wednesday! :D

Rosewood seems to be the predominate choice today. Yours is another fine example, Ron!

Well, gosh, I guess I'll carry Rosewood today, too. Sigh, the burdens we must bare to fit in.... :D
