Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good Morning* Guardians. I was just looking through some old photos and came upon a two-step process for having a satisfying day:

Step 1 – Place a sharp lambsfoot knife in your pocket:

Step 2 – Bring it to hand when there’s work to be done:

Once complete, go back to step 1. Repeat as necessary throughout the day. :D

Have a great Wednesday everyone.

* — or afternoon in England, or night in Australia, or... it seems the Sun never sets on the Guardians thread. :)
Sage advice, Greg.

Jack Black Jack Black Thank you for the kind words. Oh that croissant...Your speaking my kind of language. Your croissant doesn’t stand a chance against that fabulous Rosewood HHB.

Read and enjoyed your’s and Neal’s excellent Barlow article. Having Charlie’s collection took it to the next level.

Hope you get more Sunny days to enjoy this week/weekend.

I know what we in the States feel about the 4th. I was curious as to what you blokes feel about it.

@donn Thank you David. My habit with eating is to eat like Ceasar, rarely, but most of the time like a denizen of the Subura.:)

That ancient nursery rhyme takes on a whole different vibe with the knowledge of its’ true meaning.

@5K Qs Thank you GT. A salute to your Senator.

Good Morning Guardians. A wish for a safe and Happy Holiday to you all.

What am I doing on the 4th of July?

I think I will stay home and watch the big parade in Washington, D.C. as it https://july4thparade.com/watch live streams at 11:45 EDST.

I usually go to The Waseca County Horse Thief Detectives Annual Meeting and Picnic held on July 4th. The organisation started in 1864 after some horse thievin' was going on in the County and it is the oldest continuously operating organisation in the State of Minnesota according to the Minnesota Historical Society. Life member ship was $1.00 when I signed up and it has been steadily going up and is now at $3.00 for a lifetime membership. It is not uncommon for the newborns of the previous year to get signed to maximize that fee's usage. One year there was a competition: Two 2-man teams were set up with everything needed to harness and hitch up a horse to a wagon ... blindfolded. Needless to say, laughter was in abundance during the event. The look on the horses faces were priceless! Tug of War, egg toss, three legged sack races and other games from the "olde" days go on throughout the afternoon. It is usually a great gathering. And to top it all off there is the report from the Horse Thief Investigation Committee and I can safely say that there has been no Horse Thieving in this Waseca County since the recovery of several horses that had been thieved in August of 1870 ... 149 years of successfully keeping the thieves at bay. https://www.horsedetectives.org/ind ex.html

I feel it my duty to get out my
serveimage
Winchester Signal Cannon and salute the good ol' US of A with a few 10 gauge black powder blanks to energize the ether with smoke sound waves from cannon fire!

On another topic, the fact that I am back on here means the reset of Windows 10 seems to have worked as advertised, although I still need to recover my bookmarks and photos. As a side note to all the computer work going on here I did two things that so far were worth doing:

1) I am now using the Brave browser which is free
2) I am now using Startpage as my search engine which is free

Interestingly, my computer acts as though there has been a hardware upgrade and is faster than it used to be. I would call it snappy! Thankfully, so far, the computer seems to be stable again.

Enjoy the Holiday and long weekend everyone!

p.s. Perhaps there should be a Guardians of the Lambsfoot Detective Society ... just in case there is a need!

Intriguing grain in your rosewood, Rachel!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thank you.
Thanks GT!

Anybody want my sandwich today, I'm not feeling so well now!:D
That reminds me. The other thing I always do on the 4th is watch the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest live on ESPN. In 2017, I got to go to Coney Island and watch it in person. I had the honor being present to see American Champion Joey Chestnut pass the 70 hot dogs (and buns) in 10 minutes record. It was an amazing feat of athleticism!

cigarrodog cigarrodog Harvey, if you don't mind sharing, what camera do you use for your photos? They are always crystal clear and perfectly lit.
Thank you Mark for the kind words. First, with no false modesty, I would say there are tons of great images from so many.

I use an iPhone 7+. I shoot in all kinds of light. The last image was shot in direct Sun light. I also post-process my images with a few apps to clarify and enhance.

OK, cool. Thanks. I'll have to up my iPhone game then. ;)

There are absolutely some great photos posted by many. Yours usually have an almost macro-like detail that made me wonder if it was a high end camera. Keep em coming!

Yeah, that's something else I usually watch too! Except we cancelled cable and I don't have ESPN anymore. I can probably find it online somewhere. It's kind of disgusting and fascinating at the same time. But I love competitions!

Visited Coney Island on a trip to New York in 2012, and ate a Nathan's hot dog on the beach.

Hope you have a great one, Rachel.

Ditto on the “disgusting and fascinating at the same time.”

My plans for the 4th? Pardon me while I rant like a curmudgeon:
When I was young, what folks did on the 4th of July (what city folks did, anyway) was to go to the city park. Eat a picnic. Throw a frisbee around. When the sun goes down, open a beer or bottle of wine, and watch the fireworks display. Then go home.

I once lived in a little mountain town. The town's people would gather at the park for the usual games and picnics. At dark, because there were no supplied fireworks show, everybody would bring their own fireworks to shoot off in the park. There were fountains everywhere and pinwheels nailed to the trees. The show would go on for a couple of hours and we would walk around and see all the different stuff. What a great time it was.

Both of these sound idyllic to me. I don’t have much planned for tomorrow other than to man the smoker and then try to keep the dogs from freaking out from unsanctioned fireworks displays.

Last year, though, was an Independence Day experience that I will not soon top. My wife and I were on an road trip to visit Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. We woke up in Jackson, Wyoming on the 4th and watched the morning parade there. I love small town parades and this one did not disappoint. The police were all on horseback and did a great job managing traffic around the route.

After the parade, we headed to West Yellowstone, Montana, which was where we were to be staying for the next couple of nights. It turns out they had an evening parade, followed by a free concert in the town square, and fireworks afterwards. A much smaller affair than the one in the morning, but still really great.

It was a magical day and totally unplanned. We didn’t know about either parade until the night before and the day of.

My plans for the 4th of July are to sleep in a little, fly my US flag, grill some hamburgers, drink some Budweiser [I know some scoff at Bud, but I AM a traditionalist, and I've been drinking Bud since the 1970s; Samuel Adams and Guinness may be better, but I actually like Budweiser (and it's cheaper!), and it is a tradition with me to drink it on the 4th of July], and watch some baseball. Going to watch the Miami Marlins at the Washington Nationals. All the baseball teams will be wearing patriotic uniforms.

May have time to take a nap, walk my Chihuahua (my wife usually runs with the lab--I can't keep up!), and have a cigar on my back porch with some good ol' Kentucky bourbon. May even watch a movie, like Cagney's Yankee Doodle Dandy, with my wife and daughter. Don't do the fireworks myself anymore. There's a city ordinance against it, but everyone ignores it. Freaks out my lab.

Sounds like a great day to me, Vince. Also sounds like a great tradition. Enjoy it!

Maybe we’ll see a picture of that USA made knife and your Bud in an appropriate thread? :)

My daughter is doing a Kids Run first thing in the morning. Then we'll head to a local park to have a picnic and maybe do some swimming with my parents and siblings with their families. We'll be knackered afterwards so home for a quick nap. If I have any energy left I'm gonna make me some chili cheese dogs and turn on the television to watch a 4th of July Special or two.

Oooh. Chili cheese dogs sound great.

Sage advice, Greg.

Thanks, Harvey. Every once in a while I say something useful. ;) :D

Love that R. F. Mosley. If knives could tell stories....

WhittlinAway WhittlinAway I call the Bay Area home just as you do. A few years back we thought it would be nice to go into the City to watch the fireworks show from the Maritime Garden in front of Ghiradelli Square. It was a beautiful day as per usual in San Francisco at this time of year. However, the fog had rolled in by the time the fireworks started. I had hoped for a brilliant display; we watched something more akin to watercolors.

The worst part was trying to get home afterwards. We had taken BART into the City. We thought it would be for the best given how atrocious traffic can be on such days. It probably was. But the journey was still painful. First we had to walk along Columbus to nearest? station. But finding space on board a train headed towards the East Bay was a near impossibility. After a few minutes we decided to backtrack and take the first train headed towards SFO. We stayed on for a couple of stops and then switched back to our proper direction at Civic Center. We were able to get seats and space for our strollers, but elbow room was nonexistent. It was worse than a Warriors or Giants victory parade day.

That's not an experience I ever want to repeat.

Hello Guardians,
As far as the 4th, I live in a "Over 55" mobile home park and every year there is a flag raising ceremony followed by a small parade of my fellow old folks running around in decorated golf carts - usually about a dozen or so all decorated in a serious to comical patriotic theme. Actually pretty entertaining. But then, it doesn't take much to amuse me, anymore
In the afternoon, there is a hamburger/hot dog BBQ and entertainment by a live band after that. I'd prefer bluegrass but usually it is a local group playing some pretty bad R&R so after I chow down, I usually skip it. Then it will be back home to catch a ball game or watch a flick.

Here's another Ansel Adams. This one is of the Golden Gate before the bridge was built.
Please excuse the shadow on the tip of the blade, but it's Wooden Wednesday.
It's looking towards the bay from the ocean side - 1932.
LATER I just realized you can see Fort Point on the south side of the entrance and how strategic the location was. Also, you can pick out Alcatraz in the bay.

Dylan & @TFBraden , your photos are phenomenal!! :cool::cool:

Your pic is also superb, Dylan!:thumbsup::thumbsup: You may still be undecided regarding preference between the two handle materials, but photos like yours have me firmly believing that the jigged bone is the berries!! ;)

Thank you so much, GT, your comments are always very appreciated. Initially, I thought I was only going to be able to get one or the other between the two Waynorth variants so I picked the Bone as I thought it would make a good user. But then fortune smiled upon me once more and I was able to get one in the Ebony as well due to the graciousness of a kind member. Now I'm definitely torn on which one I'd like to make a consistent user even though I've been alternating carrying them both the past several days.

Splendid photo. Love that mug. And the knife. And the raspberries. Did you grow them?

Thank you, Greg. I did not grow the raspberries, my wife and her friend went and picked several pounds from a local field for jam and such. I do aspire to plant a number of raspberry and blueberry bushes, I've already got a spot picked out for them. I am very fond of berries and have always been set on growing my own once I had the place to do so. This is my first year growing a garden at the new place though, and it is doing wonderfully!

My picture is much the same as it was yesterday but it reflects the knife I've got in my pocket today.

Outstanding knife, Ron! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Here's another shot of Man Jack:

Thanks for the compliment Gary! Your Man Jack is looking quite spiffy my friend!  :)

Jack Black Jack Black My July 4th plans consist of spending the day with my wonderful wife. Our fridge went out and the new one was delivered and installed yesterday evening. With 24 hours to come to temp and stabilize the ice maker and all that we will make a trip tomorrow morning and buy the stuff required to restock. Then the rest of the day will consist of hotdogs, hamburgers with tater salad and baked beans. If I’m extra nice I might be able to talk Pam into making me one of her fabulous deserts. :D

I hope you guys don’t think it boring of me but my Damascus Ironwood was still out from yesterday so in the pocket it went! :D
