Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks for the info, Ed. Your Harrison looks like it would be a nice slicer.
Btw, I know what you mean about the keyboard thing. ;)

Now yer talkin!!!! Great knives and my kinda keyboard!! Nice narrow stag on the Hartshead.

I was looking at an old knife in a place the other week, and the dealer was telling me how unusual it was that the silver-bladed fruit knife I was looking at had a secondary pick, which folded out underneath the frame (lobster fashion). I had to point out that the 'pick' was actually the broken spring! :D
Lol... Had me laughing. :D

Looking good John, hope apple pie is on the menu my friend :)
No apple pie, but we did have apple donuts and lots of apple tasting.

Thanks for the info, Ed. Your Harrison looks like it would be a nice slicer.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian Guardians

Great to see you here Mike, that chilli looks delicious :) Wishing you and all our Canadian Guardians (and adopted Canadians ;) ) a very Happy Thanksgiving :)

Hope you're having a good one Dave :)
Thank you, Jack, I prefer Thanksgiving over Christmas, there's only good fellowship, food and family. No hype and running around stressing trying to buy the perfect gift ;)
Smashing pic Dave :)
Thank you, Jack, thats a fine photo of your CC WN Lambsfoot.:cool:

I hope you feel better and that you’re given the strength to endure the selling of your homestead.
Thank you very much for the encouragement, Harvey!
I'll get it worked out one way or the another!:)
I hope you don't go over the beer budget, and your health is getting better!!
Thank you so kindly, Charlie!! :) Beer and knife budget are the important ones!;)
I bought a new bed a few years back. I had it delivered, but baulked at paying for having it assembled. Took me a couple of hours to do it myself, and I ached for a week after! :D
Exactly!
We didn't have much money growing up, dad working in the copper mines, so we were taught to fix everything yourself, and if you couldn't make it, you didn't need it. But now.......I'll pay for it to be done if we can afford it!;)
I hope you can get your health issues sorted out and find some relief. Also, good luck with the home sale, that will take it right out of ya.
Beautiful Horn, my friend!
Thank you so much for the encouraging comments Mark! They are certainly appreciated!:)
Another photo knocked out of the park!:thumbsup: Such vivid photos, Mark!
Yes he was "packing" .... but then he escorted me to go speak with the "BOSS" ( he was packing a big one :D )

...because it's my wedding anniversary!
How 'bout you?

Fine looking Barlow! Happy anniversary Vince. Today is my wedding anniversary too! :D I will be carrying my barlow for our dinner tonight.
BIG HAPPY (belated) ANNIVERSARY to both you guys!! One for the newlyweds!

It's been very wet here recently, the rivers are high, and the ground is sodden. Decided to skip going for a hike tomorrow, and visit the town of Pontefract, and Pontefract Castle, which I've not been to for over 6 years. Think I'm going to take Charlie Lamb with me ;) Hope everyone has a great weekend

I think it's very unique coloring, José!:thumbsup: But if it's not pleasing to you, you could always try the potassium permanganate route?.
A good weekend Guardians.;)

Both are certainly Weekend Pocket Worthy!;)
A picture to remember summer by, bye summer... :)

It would be interesting, at least to me :), to see the variations in cover thickness on the HHBs. Mine is on the slimmer side.
Interesting, will havevto take a picture later....

Oh be still my beating Heart! I just love this Knife of yours my friend- it has everything!
Thank you kindly, my friend. I’m grateful for coming across this one.

mitch4ging mitch4ging - Thank you kindly Dennis. Your HartsHead Barlow is looking quite spiffy.

JohnDF JohnDF - Those apples looks as tasty as the image.

To all who celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving, May it be a joyous one.

In life we cannot have everything we want.
While Bill likes my cherry wood M.May, I love his HB stag and I hate my HB stag, along with a photo.:thumbsup:

Bearing in mind how many times you've complained to me about it Jose, I hate it too, I hate it every time you post a photo of it, which is a lot. Unfortunately, none of your earliest photos of the knife are still hosted, (which has made a mess of the thread), but I note your initial reaction was "Finally, my wonderful beauties arrived, I'm delighted, congratulations Jack..." and the subsequent posts seem equally enthusiastic. If you still hate your knife, my offer of a refund, which I've already given you repeatedly, is still open, I don't even care if you've used it. You've been offered advice on dyeing the stag, if the colour isn't to your liking, but that isn't something you've pursued. I'm sorry the colour of that stag didn't meet your particular tastes, but stag is a natural material, and each of the stag Hartshead Barlows is unique I can only suggest, as I have done so previously, that you accept a refund, and get yourself a custom knife

Had some Penfold's Shiraz-Cabernet last night with dinner. Very nice.
QJZKIKr.jpg

Looks like a lovely evening Vince :) There used to be a great importer of Penfolds wines here, but the company went under about 10 years ago unfortunately. Now I don't see them too often I'm afraid, and when I do its just the cheaper ones. They do some really world class wines I think. Hope you're enjoying a fantastic birthday my friend :)

Hope everyone’s Weekend is a good one.

Simply superb Harvey :)

Thanks, and glad to be able to add a few thoughts to that classic vintage model.

Woke up to light snow on the deck this morning, fortunately I have a few good knives to help warm my soul... :)

It would be interesting, at least to me :), to see the variations in cover thickness on the HHBs. Mine is on the slimmer side.

Interesting suggestion Natchezz  Over the last few decades, the Sheffield makers have been cutting their stag much thicker than in the past, sometimes this is down to a lack of skill, other times to demand from their wholesale customers, often it's been led by the poor quality stag they have had to struggle with since the Indian Government's ban on Sambar stag (the Hartshead Barlows use Sambar which predates that). For the most part, I take what I get, the thicker stag can be more ergonomic on some knives, but I really do like the thinner cut stag, which I think shows a cutler's skill. What I really hate, and I've seen plenty of this in the past 20 years in Sheffield, is where they cut the stag too thick, and then grind off the bark. I have a Trevor Ablett knife, the handles of which are almost completely white and featureless, and the first "Senator" (their description, not mine), I had from Wright's, was simply awful (see below).

I try to get them to cut the stag thin, but to some extent they have to work with the stag they have, and it's always a real effort to get them to make things differently to what they've gotten used to. The Barlow bolsters provide a guide at least ;)

I'll take some pics of mine in a bit

Thanks for the info, Ed. Your Harrison looks like it would be a nice slicer.

Nice comparison pic Ed :) That just about shows what I was saying to natchezz natchezz above, nice thin-cut stag on your Harrison Brothers and Howson, and I hope that the stag on the Hartshead Barlow is an improvement on the other Sheffield-made knife

Thank you, Jack, I prefer Thanksgiving over Christmas, there's only good fellowship, food and family. No hype and running around stressing trying to buy the perfect gift ;)

Yeah, same here Dennis, I've been a plumber, carpet-fitter, decorator, carpenter in the house over the years, always done everything myself, and probably done a pretty mediocre job of it! :D

Hope you had a great day out with a great knife, Jack!:thumbsup:
