Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Dang Jack, all I can say in my Dad's words are " What the! that's a real bugger boy" :eek:

The edge on the other knife I picked up was even worse, looked like it was sharpened by a monkey with a Dremel :thumbsdown:

Jack Black Jack Black - Enjoyed reading all your posts today, Jack. So prolific. Many great images.

5K Qs 5K Qs - Thank you GT. Union Jack looks great.

Modoc ED Modoc ED - Happy Birthday to the USN!

Good PM Guardians.

Thanks Harvey, I felt I owed this thread some time :D ;) That's a great composition :thumbsup:

As long as we're pointing out some odd things about A. Wright knives here's one. Most if not all cutlers/companies take special pride in the Mark Side of their knives. That's where they put their name on the tang, polish the blade, especially if only one side of the blade is to be polished, and usually, it's the side they put the nicest cover material. However, that's not been the case with several Wrights knives I have. To illustrate the point here is a Standard Lambfoot with Buffalo Horn covers. The cutler put the cover with the most tone/coloring on the Pile Side of the knife and a plainer cover on the Mark Side. The lighting isn't good today (cloudy and misty) but it's good enough to illustrate my point. I wish it had been sunny because the tone in the Pile Side cover is really bright.

It just goes to show that not all Wright's cutlers are prideful of their work.

Can't wait for the next run of ACs, Jack! :D

Probably not going to happen I'm afraid Matt! :( ;) :thumbsup:

I was inspired by all the great travel pics lately, so I decided to take a trip to the ruins of my front yard with Jelly today.

LOL! :D Still a great pic my friend! :) :thumbsup:

I don't think they even understand concepts like this Ed :( Wright's only ever had a very small number of cutlers, and they would have been trained post-WW2 when the Sheffield cutlery industry had already been in decline for decades, and when gaffers sort to turn out cheap products, rather than ones of good quality. That's a good pic Ed, I have several Wright knives where I prefer the pile side :thumbsup:

Bearing in mind how many times you've complained to me about it Jose, I hate it too, I hate it every time you post a photo of it, which is a lot. Unfortunately, none of your earliest photos of the knife are still hosted, (which has made a mess of the thread), but I note your initial reaction was "Finally, my wonderful beauties arrived, I'm delighted, congratulations Jack..." and the subsequent posts seem equally enthusiastic. If you still hate your knife, my offer of a refund, which I've already given you repeatedly, is still open, I don't even care if you've used it. You've been offered advice on dyeing the stag, if the colour isn't to your liking, but that isn't something you've pursued. I'm sorry the colour of that stag didn't meet your particular tastes, but stag is a natural material, and each of the stag Hartshead Barlows is unique I can only suggest, as I have done so previously, that you accept a refund, and get yourself a custom knife :thumbsup:

I deeply regret that Jack will now publicly expose an issue already handled by PM.
As you know, I have always refused a refund because I want to have an HB Barlow knife in stag and what I suggested and you did not accept was an exchange.
With no more comments and friends like before.:thumbsup:

But you keep moaning about it Jose, this is not the first time. If you don't like the knife how about I buy it off you and I'll put it into a giveaway, then it can go to someone who appreciates it? You drove me mad about that knife Jose o_O

I just don't see the ugliness in that Stag Jose. Sure the bark is dark but the "popcorn" really stands out. Perhaps an application of "Frombys" polish or some other polish would make the stag "POP".

Thanks so much for the suggestion ED.:):thumbsup:

@ulix Welcome to the Guardians. I suggest picking up a nice A Wright Lambsfoot in Rosewood, they are fairly inexpensive and will give you a chance to experience the pattern. You are also in the right place to be able to go to a knife shop and hand pick one, which is always a good idea when possible. While the Wright's knives are not stainless don't let that stop you. With a little care you shouldn't have any problems with rust. If you can get along with carbon steel it will give you a lot more choices with the Lambsfoot pattern.
Fantastic pic of an unforgettable knife, FBC, and good advice for @ulix ! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: (I was as obsessed with the jigged bone WCLF as @ulix is with the HHB, but I'm better now. :D:thumbsup:)

Lambsfoot Lucy looking lovely! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

"L-il" one with some bounty of the sea.

I know I've been latent lately, between health and putting our house on the market, I've been knocked out.

Dennis, I hope that your health improves soon and that you can pace yourself on the house-selling duties! Great pic of that blond horn knife against the red cut-glass bottle! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

The carbon steel bolsters on the Hartshead is one of my favorite features. No brassiness here!

Welcome back, David :); I always enjoy your "vista" shots! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: How are you liking that stag HHB SFO?

Couple of exceptional stag folders, José! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

How 'bout you?
:thumbsup::thumbsup::D
Belated anniversary well-wishes, Vince! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
And Birthday Greetings to you and @cudgee ! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

It's interesting to see the difference in the angle of the plunge cut at the tip of the blade for various sized lambfoot knives. It seems the longer the blade, the more rounded (less radical) the plunge cut - the small "L-il" One the exception as their plunge cuts are more rounded than the Standard for example..

Intriguing theory and comparison shots, ED; thanks! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
And congrats on getting that marvelous old lambsfoot shown below! :eek::thumbsup::thumbsup:
I haven't show it before Jack Black Jack Black . It is a Harrison Bros & Howson made in Sheffield.

Fine looking Barlow! Happy anniversary Vince. Today is my wedding anniversary too! :D I will be carrying my barlow for our dinner tonight.
Anniversary congrats to you, too, Jon! :cool::thumbsup::cool: How many years since your wedding?

I often find myself wondering what happened to long-standing BF poster and early Guardian @smiling-knife. He had some fabulous knives and old catalogues, and was always a source of great information, but he hasn't posted on BF for well over a year :( I do hope he's OK, and that he'll find his way back to us one day, always sad when a longstanding poster goes away :thumbsup:

So true, Jack, and unfortunately quite common. :( I guess The Porch isn't immune from the transience of 21st century society.

It's been very wet here recently, the rivers are high, and the ground is sodden. Decided to skip going for a hike tomorrow, and visit the town of Pontefract, and Pontefract Castle, which I've not been to for over 6 years. Think I'm going to take Charlie Lamb with me ;) Hope everyone has a great weekend :thumbsup:

Thanks pal, I'll pass that on ;) :thumbsup:

Yes, we've both seen many people come and go on The Porch. It always makes me sad, as they've often become good friends, and I worry about them :)

Not officially christened, I'd probably have to ask Charlie @waynorth for his permission first, but that's always how I affectionately think of that knife :) That's a great pic of your Union Jack, really shows it off well :thumbsup:

Yeah, I figured not, it was such a special run it shouldn't be duplicated anyway! A guy can always wish, though. Those are probably my favorite knives on this forum! :thumbsup:

Thanks for the compliment on my WC. It's certainly no slouch!

Have a good rest of the weekend everyone!
