Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks for the kind words Jack and all the photos of your many hikes. Your perambulations never cease to amaze and I enjoy your many annotations of the photos that you have taken.:) I can almost taste the blackberry crumble. OH, with a little vanilla ice cream on top...heaven!:D:D:D I almost for got to mention what a great HHB you have in the stag but I have also enjoyed viewing the rosewood as well.

My only HHB and my favorite knife forever:

Thanks Bill, I've been having my crumble with vanilla custard, but maybe I should pick up some ice cream :) Thank you for the kind words on my Hartshead Barlows, I am still very pleased with them, and I'm glad you're pleased with yours too :)

You’re nothing if not prepared, Jack! :D

I rinsed the tea off (and out of) my HHB and have it air drying. I’ll give it a good oiling later. Ironically just last night I had oiled and wiped down all my Lambsfoot knives after having them out for a group shot on Yorkshire day. They’d been sitting on top of my knife cabinet, and I finally got around to it.

I recently used a (non-Lambsfoot) knife with light-colored Micarta covers to halve and pit some fresh cherries for Eleanor. Got dark cherry juice all over the thing. I wondered if it would stain the Micarta, but it all came right off. (My fingers, on the other hand, were purple for a day or so!) :D

LOL! Well any fool can rough it right?! :D ;)

I'm sure it'll be fine my friend, mine certainly doesn't get babied, I think it'd take a lot to mess up those knives :) I took some blackberries down to my friends the other day, his little girl came and rested her hands on the knees of a new pair of khakis I was wearing, her hands were covered in blackberry juice, but strangely I was unmarked :D I haven't seen her since last year, when she seemed but a baby. The first thing she said to me was, "I bet you don't know my name"! :D

You celebrating Jer? :)

Fabulous photos Dan :) Is there no end to your talents?!  :D  Here's a good friend of mine singing a song you might like :)

Lyrics

Everytime I see a horse I think of that line about horses in the second Sherlock Holmes film.
"Dangerous at both ends and crafty in the middle".:D

LOL! :D Honestly, almost everything I know about horses I learned from Dave @Horsewright :D Some years back, a friend of mine who has a farm in Scotland, and wanted me to visit, asked me if I could ride a horse. I told him, "Don't be daft! I'm from Sheffield!"

Great photos Jack. Always look forward to our weekly Yorkshire fix. :D:thumbsup:

Thank you my friend, very kind of you :) That looks like a tast pint :)

LOL! :D Fine photo Vince, hope you're having a great weekend :)

light-coloured 'coat' on (I don't know if you'd call it a coat,
You are correct, it is called a coat. You hear anyone involved with horses say, that one looks good in the coat. It is a way to tell the general health of the animal, no different to humans. You see people that just look healthy and well, if you know what i mean. I am going to apologize in advance, if i start to ramble, i think lock down is getting to me, 5 months is getting to me. So i hope i do not offend anyone with my ramblings, see i'm starting already.:confused::confused::eek::eek::eek:o_Oo_Oo_O

Well, my mighty Snakewood was put away for a while- I have to be honest, because of a silly Sharpening mistake of mine..
Being alone here in New Zealand - not being surrounded by Knife friends, trying to learn Traditional Sharpening Methods has got to have been one of the most challenging thing!!, how often do you see guys posting the troubles they have with tra?
So for sometime now I have continued to better myself- have a look online - try to replicate what they do... well yeah..it hasn't all been good, such as this time...
I used to ( not now push my Knives away from me on the Traditional stones - with utmost concentration this works, but boy it can eat away a tip in just a couple pf passes if you aren't careful, and this is what I did to this treasure of mine.
Now dont get me wrong, it most certainly isn't severe- but my tip of the edge "lifts" slightly - now that I always pull the knife towards me I can ensure this never happens again.

In have since changed my technique for the better, where I am not putting that pressure on the tip - part of me wants to take the edge up all the way along the edge and bring it back to 100% but that would mean loosing perhaps 1mm of edge, so I wont do that, I will in time after use and sharpening's regain back my perfect straight edge.
Not everyone would pick out the slight lift in the tip - but once you know its there- it's there!!!
So I have now confessed! I will take another shot of the blade to show you- although embarrassing as it is - but as I say in time it will come back to me as I use and sharpen the Blade!

Here she is in all the Glory.... before I did the damage- I know I am making it out as though the damage was severe- its not- and when time allows I will post up how this still gorgeous Knife looks today!

As you said it will correct itself over time with use and sharpening. How are you going though? I was really sorry to hear about the outbreak of the virus again. Over 100 days without a reported case, you would think with all the protocols in place you would have it beat. So i am thinking of you my friend, and hang in there. Take care, stay safe and i hope you have a good week. And your knife will look after itself, trust me, been there done that.;)

I'm glad it made it safe and sound Ron, I know you have been wanting one of those for a while, and if you remember, I had put your name on it around the time our lockdown started :) It is a shame we never got a proper Guardian's edition in that pattern :( I hope the site problems are resolved soon, seem to have gone on for a while now
It made it just fine Jack! I remembered that we had discussed one of the Ebony big ‘uns was to come my way and I’m extremely proud of it! This has just been such a strange year. I guess the package made it in good time considering the postal problems everywhere! :D

I had a cuppa out on the front deck this morning. Too much milk, but the tea was good and strong, and it seemed silly to waste it. :D I was trying to get a pic with my Hartshead Barlow, but it decided to go for a swim!

That’s a good one Barrett! I’ve had that very same thing happen with a hot cup of coffee! :)

That’s a beautiful Lambsfoot Duncan! Hand sharpening is definitely an acquired skill. :)

Good evening Guardians! I posted earlier this morning but I was having so any problems with the website I gave up on it. I got busy and I’m just now getting back. Jack and I had talked before the lockdown about he wanting to send me one of his special Ebony big’uns. Well it arrived in the mail yesterday and I love it! I’m fond of the larger Lambsfoot and this one is truly special! Thank you so much Jack! Your kindness and generosity are without equal, but more than anything your friendship is what means so much to me! :) This morning I promised some peach cobbler photos so here it is! I hope y’all stay safe out there wherever you’re at! :)

Very nice Duncan. Here's a shot of mine. Custom cover by @Signalprick.

qlN7Xug.jpg

One tip I have on hand sharpening - never let the blade tip slide off the stone. Stop the sharpening stroke just as the tip reaches the edge of the stone and LIFT the blade tip off the stone. This tip applies whether pushing the blade away from you or pulling the blade toward you.

That's a good'un.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you Ron!, It's taken a while all right- still at times it can be testing- but I am way better off than what I used to be, usually the blades on all my knives are very sharp!
That's a great looking ebony- Ron what a great gift once again by Jack!

Ed- yes...you are dead right matey- That's one rule I make sure I obey! Many thanks for that!:)

Cudgee- Im going really good thanks- The Govt dropped their guard and did not set a cut-off date for these people to come in- and when they did they botched it all up and let people who were meant to be in lockdown leave without being tested- just a mess- this second hit is on the Government!

Whew Mike- That's a nice looking Hartshead there!

Thanks mate, my girls used to ride, but I've only been on a horse once, for 5 minutes, on Blackpool beach, when I was about 7! :D

Sorry about your mishap Duncan :( You are modest in all things, and that includes your sharpening abilities, acquired through a great deal of dedication I think. Hope you're keeping well otherwise pal, it's great seeing you here :)

Once again Ron, I'm glad it made good time in getting to you. I know you love the Big 'Uns, and had hoped we might have a Guardians edition, in ebony, one day. Sadly, that won't happen now, not with Wright's anyway. The ebony knives were the last they made for me, with ebony sourced from a maker of bagpipes, which was supposed to be a lot darker than it is. Despite my disappointment in that regard, I hope it makes a good user for you my friend :) Now, that peach cobbler looks absolutely perfect! :D :)

And just like that, another weekend is in the rear view... Winding down for the evening here, but hope everyone has a great week ahead.

They go fast don't they Mike? No winding with your Orient of course ;) I see you have changed the strap. I still have the bracelet on mine, but it's quality doesn't match the quality of the watch in my opinion. Nice pic of your Hartshead Barlow

Good Morning Guardians! Hope everyone had a great weekend, and that your week gets off to a good start, particularly those of you who are having to go into work. I have to go into the city centre today, so I better go and polish my mask  Stay safe Guardians

I sincerely do wish i was having some of that for desert tonight. I looks scramoculous.:p:p:p
Thanks! It was very tasty. The peaches were grown within 20 miles from our home. My wife is an excellent cook and I think the freshness just makes the cobblers that much tastier! :)

Thank you Ron!, It's taken a while all right- still at times it can be testing- but I am way better off than what I used to be, usually the blades on all my knives are very sharp!

Thanks Duncan! It was a kind and generous gift from our friend Jack! That’s something that you and Jack share in common, if I might say my friend! :)

Another fine photo of your stag HHB. Love that "root beer float" color.

Good morning Guardians. Well, it's a gloomy morning and more thunder storms on the way. Been like this for several weeks now but at least no hurricanes coming through. Weather man says it's going to be a bad year for them. Normally I would keep my HHB inside during wet weather but I just can't keep it out of my pocket. Out this morning pruning my weeping Japanese red maple tree. More green than red at this time of the year

That's a nice description Bill, thank you :) Sorry to hear the weather is so miserable, and I hope the forecasters are wrong about the hurricane season. I'm glad you're enjoying your Barlow so much, mine has certainly taken over my pocket like no other knife I have had. Fantastic photo  :)

I actually sliced one of these tomatoes and cut up a plumb for a couple of my children this morning, so my AC has a patina going again.

Great stuff Joshua :) Love your pic, and those tomatoes look just like the ones I bought this morning :)
