I think I left enough character, and By the way, my wife actually took a liking to this one, she usually doesn't like stag...

Had some time today to do a little personalizing to the stag Big'un. she had some high points, a real bump on the pile side and a ridge on the mark side. Went through a few grits of paper using a paint stirrer to hold the paper flat...

It still has a really nice hand filling swell, but with the stag evened out and the high points gone, it is way more comfy in hand and especially in pocket. Something about this particular Lambsfoot makes it easily pinched open, I think now that I've tweeked it a bit, it will be seeing a lot more pocket time
I don't know if they would have done anything about it if it hadn't been a second anyway. Nice work, I'm sure it feels a lot more comfortable in hand now. I find the Lambsfoot pattern pinches open nicely, but definitely easier with the Big 'Uns I think

Had to settle for cheese on toast, which was tasty, but it may be some time before I recover psychologically!

the stag was a little on the lumpy side, as you know, but in hand it was not really noticeable. In pocket was another story, as it would occasionally " remind" me of its presence through the day. Now with it flattened a bit, it rides unnoticed and comfy, ready and waiting to be of use.

Good thing it isn't Lambsfoot mating season....Lambsfoot knives wrestling in the laundry room window while I folded clean clothes.

Man - this has got to be the fastest moving Thread out!
Jack I have studied that Wade and Butcher Sheldon Knife carefully- there has been no modification to the Spine of the blade ( that I can see anyway) upwards toward the tip to try and bring the point down to a more Lambsfoot profile.
The rest of the blade has lots of sharpening marks and would be impossible to determine if at all the Hawksbill point had been taken back to a straight edge.
But if it was a Hawksbill- and you did take the “ bill” point back to a straight edge blade you would have the Taper the Spine ( towards the tip ) and under magnification I can’t see any tell tell marks.
This is not to say of course that it was not originally a Hawksbill- but you can only do the best that you can do by closely observing.
Wonderful Knives being shown- Sitflyers mod wasn’t bad at all- still has good character!
I had to put off my trip to Sheffield last week, due to disruption to the rail network and roads here, but I'll be heading over this week. I'll be speaking to a cutler, who I know has made Sheldon knives in the past, so I'll ask him if he's ever made or seen them with a Lambsfoot blade. We'll be just across the road from the old Butcher Works actually

Have fun in Sheffield, my friend.I had to put off my trip to Sheffield last week, due to disruption to the rail network and roads here, but I'll be heading over this week.

Great - thank you Jack - it may turn out that it was originally a Hawksbill- I can’t imagine a cheap knife of manufacture such as this type of Sheldon would have had too many options
They must have restored that Building somewhat Jack as it looks great - did they not place Gargoyles on these types of Buildings? Love seeing them.
I hope life is treating you well my friend.

Jack, if you get a moment and have the inclination, would you be able to examine the current Wright's output in some of the shops? From the examples I have been seeing (and ordering) over the past year or so, they seem to have really hit their stride. Thanks!

Thanks, Jack. I had been looking over your early impressions from the Silence of the Lambfoot post from years back and recalled my own initial not so good experience. The ones now are very good indeed, especially the ones done up for Oakedge. If you should see that John Maleham fellow send him my highest regards!I think you are right Bart, Wright's do seem to have hit their stride
