Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Awesome Jack! I'm glad you taking it back to it's point of origin:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Hope you enjoy your visit, Jack! And I hope we get to hear about your adventures!

Thanks a lot guys :) It was certainly an adventure getting a pic of the TEW in front of the old (recently closed) works! I had to climb over a fence, commit a minor act of trespass, scramble a steep bank, and haul myself up another fence! But I did get a few pics :)

Well, I am glad you are still quick on your feet, young feller!!
I'd hate to be bailing you out as we speak!!:)
It's a shame to see another stalwart of the cutlery industry folded!!
Thanks for bringing us the "real" news!!

Thanks Charlie, I'm not as nimble as I was! ;) :D

TEW are still in business, but have moved to much smaller premises. The old factory has been far too big for them for years, but they were unable to sell it because of its decrepitude, and the fact it has a preservation order. They came to a deal with Sheffield City Council eventually, though it wouldn't be the first time they have simply let an old 'listed' building rot, and then knocked it down as a danger to the public. There has been talk of turning it into apartments for some years, but who knows if that will ever happen. Part of the works still had the lights on, so either it's still being used for something, it's been squatted, or the last person out forgot to turn them off! ;)

A minor act of trespass every now and then is what keeps us young. :D

LOL! Quite right! :D

Well, it was only climbing over the locked gate into a private car-park (with a big 'Private Property') sign! :D It was the only way I could get the pics, so I feel entirely justified! ;) :D That kind of trespass is not a criminal offence here, so at the most I would have been asked to leave

Great pictures and adventure, when is the court date? :)

I'll expect a 'Free the TEW One' campaign! :D

LOL, here’s hoping Our Man In Yorkshire draws this judge when he’s hauled up before The Assizes!:D:)

On the other hand, Jack, maybe you’ll luck out and receive a ‘sentence’ of Transportation to sunny Australia.:D:p

I’ll put the kettle on, and some beer in the fridge, pending your arrival!;):)

LOL! Great to see you here mate, and thanks for that link! :D It says a lot that even the lawyer didn't understand the knife laws here, so many folks think they are illegal  Yep, transportation would suit me just fine! :D That's a tasty-looking pint with your Lambsfoot :)

Man - this has got to be the fastest moving Thread out!

Jack I have studied that Wade and Butcher Sheldon Knife carefully- there has been no modification to the Spine of the blade ( that I can see anyway) upwards toward the tip to try and bring the point down to a more Lambsfoot profile.
The rest of the blade has lots of sharpening marks and would be impossible to determine if at all the Hawksbill point had been taken back to a straight edge.
But if it was a Hawksbill- and you did take the “ bill” point back to a straight edge blade you would have the Taper the Spine ( towards the tip ) and under magnification I can’t see any tell tell marks.
This is not to say of course that it was not originally a Hawksbill- but you can only do the best that you can do by closely observing.

Wonderful Knives being shown- Sitflyers mod wasn’t bad at all- still has good character!

It does look like it was always a Lambsfoot doesn't it Duncan? If so, you have found something really fascinating my friend :) I had to put off my trip to Sheffield last week, due to disruption to the rail network and roads here, but I'll be heading over this week. I'll be speaking to a cutler, who I know has made Sheldon knives in the past, so I'll ask him if he's ever made or seen them with a Lambsfoot blade. We'll be just across the road from the old Butcher Works actually :)

Great - thank you Jack - it may turn out that it was originally a Hawksbill- I can’t imagine a cheap knife of manufacture such as this type of Sheldon would have had too many options :)
They must have restored that Building somewhat Jack as it looks great - did they not place Gargoyles on these types of Buildings? Love seeing them.

I hope life is treating you well my friend.

Lambsfoot it is Duncan! :) I'm not sure if anyone would ever want one, they are certainly not the most attractive of knives, but Wright's still have the (blanking) tools for the Sheldon Lambsfoot pattern! :)

Great stuff Jack! I do appreciate the trespass and parkour on behalf of the Guardians  outstanding pictures

Lambsfoot joined me for some afternoon yard work after arriving home from regular work. The Bees are out in force and making good use of the lavender in my favorite home photo spot.

:eek: I certainly didn't expect you to be out climbing gates! Great pics of the old TEW building Jack! I'm glad you didn't get thrown off the property! A little trespassing via climbing gates is good cardio:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks for sharing the pictures of your adventure today:thumbsup::thumbsup:

What shameful reporting to not mention the type of knife the Judge was carrying...

Thanks mate. Yes, many people here have the same mistaken opinion, which, I suppose is the intention of having confusing, vaguely stated Orwellian legal restrictions.

I remember you saying that bitter was the drink of choice in Sheffield, so I was keen to try this Extra Special Bitter on tap at my local, made by one of my favourite traditional craft brewers, Hargreaves Hill. It's a truly excellent drop.

Nice detective work Jack and Duncan @Campbellclanman, and that's a very interesting addition to the Lambsfoot variations documented in this thread.

Shameful alright, my friend, although one of the other rags reporting on this story, described it as a 'black handled knife'.

Hmmm...;)

Yes, I doubt even the average cop knows the law  That sounds like a nice drop my friend :) A great-looking black-handled knife! :D

I'm carrying my ebony today, but as it's thick with snow outside, and I've plenty to do at home, I don't think we'll be going far ;)
