Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks David, I acquired it in Mexico; the matching chess pieces as well. If memory serves me right it was in Acapulco. Your HHB is fantastic...such character!
Thanks Bill. I didn't know they worked alabaster in Mexico so that's interesting to know.
In medieval times it was the English that were recognized as the alabaster masters but obviously that's a while ago now. :)

Vest pocket or waistcoat pocket? Can you show us the hatchet?
I'd probably say waistcoat, but it's the sort with lots of pockets, useful for carrying my tools out of the house. I have a lot of photos, but precious few of myself, and have just spent what seems like ages trying to find a photo of me wearing it, without success! Fortunately, my girlfriend snapped a pic of me snapping a Lambsfoot :D

Couple of old pics of my Gilpin, which I'd usually just call an axe :)

Lol - next minute Jack is getting Tasered!
Yikes! I hope not! :D
Yeah, I think that was a lucky escape. Coppers are to twitchy nowadays. Recent legal advice I've had is not to engage with the police AT ALL. Not even to wish them a good morning. Which is a sad example of the ways things have gone.
They didn't seem too perturbed on this occasion, and I was in my garden, and actually working on my hiking staff. I've certainly had less pleasant encounters in the past though
That stag really glows in the sun. Glad you are having some fine weather to enjoy you HHB and a pint too!

Looks like what I call an adventurer's vest (and still need to get one of).
Sweet little hatchet.

I remember you telling us about sitting down to compare knives with someone, when the police arrived and you both restuffed your pockets and left. Sad to see the great British Public acting toward the constabulary like Navaronese villagers toward the SS.
Probably too political. I'll delete it in a bit.
That one is Australian, I've had it since the early 90's, worn it loads, and it's still going strong. It's as unstoppable as Meako! :D Thanks, it was a birthday gift from former member ScruffUK some years back, he did a great job restoring and re-hafting it

Well that's the spirit!! A great looking day there. Jack!😎👍
The ant at the bottom is a bonus, he came running in right when I snapped the picture.😊

Some real beauty covers on that one, Todd!!😉👌
That'll give @CelloDan a run for his money Todd! :) ;)

It's been a lovely sunny day here, and so I decided to sit out in the garden this afternoon, and make a start on a new stick :)

What wood is that, Jack? Good to see some pile side of your HHB!🙂👍
Beer. Sleep. Beer. Sleep. Beer. Sleep....
Repeat as necessary.😊

🍺🍺😁👍
Do you count Lambsfoot knives to get to the sleep part? Nice photo, Dave! Our sister unit in Germany to the 3rd Armored Division was the 5th Panzer Division....they were a thirsty lot!

Hey Dennis, how're you doing buddy? :) Thanks a lot for the kind words :) That wood is ash, not a lot of character to it, but I find it good wood for a cane or staff. If it was good enough for Odin, it's good enough for me! :D I haven't really decided what I'm going to do with this one yet, I might flame it a little :) It's great to see more of your '19, fantastic patina! :)

Good morning Guardians, hope everyone is keeping well :) I was counting Lambsfoot knives myself last night, but still barely got any sleep :( Got my Rosewood Big 'Un in my pocket :) Have a good day Guardians

Beautiful looking Lambfoot knives. And no doubt sharp as can be.;)
Thanks Bill, they do take a nice edge :)

I am usually down at the market on Thursday mornings, but I am having some work done at home, so I won't get down there until later. I haven't made up my mind whether to carry my Rosewood Big 'Un again, or the Sambar model I just sharpened. Decisions, decisions! ;) :D What do you think Guardians? ;)

The sambar, now that you've got it all excited by sharpening it.

I reckon it's due some time out Jer :) I sure have enjoyed carrying my Big 'Un today though

This was the only Lambsfoot I was ever able to get like this with Sambar. Most of the vintage pieces were too short, great on an AC or a Bartlow, but not big enough for a Swayback, and usually not big enough for a regular Candle-end like this. A shame that the mark-side stag doesn't have as much character as the pile-side, but it's still pretty nice I think :)

I didn't get time to finish with these two the other day, but found some time this afternoon

We are getting absolutely getting hammered by wind, and from the South-East which is very rare. Where my brother in law lives, they have really copped it over night, with many road closures and a lot of work for emergency services. Winds were recorded at over 70MPH with lashing rain, our first real winter event and only the first week of winter. Now, Jack you have shown some of your sharpening kit in this post, i was wondering if it would be appropriate to show a new sharpening project i started yesterday in the Guardians thread, you answered my question. I found this system perusing the internet while in lockdown, it was very reasonably priced, looked well made, but looked awkward, and the stone set up looked cheap. I found 2 reviews that said it was not user friendly and loose, i knew that would not be an issue, i just wanted the actual base unit which looked a solid unit, and it is. I have a box of parts from cheap sharpening systems that i have purchased over the years to try that particular style, they were either no good, or broke over time, but i stripped parts off them and have kept them thinking they may come in handy one day, and they have. I like to think i am fairly creative and can utilize parts and bits and bobs to improve or make things, i learnt this as a kid scrounging stuff and making things. I will post some photos from the website of the actual unit, and a photo of what i have now as the starting base unit.

This is how it came out of the box.

This is the base i made yesterday, this is the bottom side with ridges, place this side on a mat and clamped will be very stable. Have put 3 coats of raw linseed on this side, absolutely soaked in immediately. This is what i mean about cost, had this lying around, and could not have got a better fit if you took it to a wood worker and he made it to size.

This is what i wanted, the base, is solid all metal and well made and put together.
The unit cost me $27US, that is all i have put into it so far.
Sorry if i have bored you, but sitting here on last day of full lockdown, and the weather is filthy, have a crock pot of LAMB and vegetable soup cooking[ there is my lambsfoot content ] looking for something to do. But i would value your opinions and thoughts, or any ideas.
