Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I quite liked mine. It did have a bit more sway to it than the Wrights knives but it was comfortable in hand and the stainless held up pretty well. A lot of bang for your buck, in my opinion.
The longer handle, extra sway and flaring handle would make it very well suited for trimming hooves one would think. The stainless blade would also be a plus in animal care situations.

Morning Guardians :) It's great to see this thread so active. Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend :)

Good luck tomorrow! Get some sun!

Thanks a lot Mark, I had a good hike in fine weather :) I was exhausted by the time I got home though! :D

Yeah, I purchased it through a dealer, and told them. They said they will tell Wrights, which I doubt.
For all the costs and trouble, I'll just Wright it off ;) You see what I did there Wright? :p

I have an ebony and buffalo horn in the mail, which most likely will take a couple more weeks yet
lets hope all's good with them.

Boy o boy, my ebony lambs foot was in the mail! I was thinking at least another week or more before it came.
The only problem is after I got the tightly wrapped bubble wrap off, It's the wrong knife! its a Ettrick Blade Pocket Knife With Ebony Handle - A. Wright
Dang!

That's a bummer and kind of cool at the same time. The Ettrick is a cool pattern but it's no Lambsfoot. ;)
Did the dealer offer to replace your warped Lambsfoot?

No, he did not offer a replacement ,but I did email him right away this afternoon regarding the Ettrick.
I said if he could wave the shipping on another Lambs foot I will keep the Ettrick. I won't hear I suppose until tomorrow morning
as there is 7hrs or so difference England to Canada. As you said the ET is a cool little knife,so at this point,I hope he go's for it.

I hope so, it sounds to me that's a pretty good deal for the dealer. Best of luck

Thanks man,I'm not one to rock the jukebox. I had a stress complicated heart attack, last September, since then I try to take the path of least resistance, if only I had done that 20 years ago! :D

Very sorry to hear about your heart attack my friend  Hope you've made a full recovery

This all sounds like very sloppy service! :( The dealer should replace your first defective Lambsfoot in my opinion, and he should send you an additional ebony Lambsfoot free of charge. If you can find the time, I would recommend that you contact Wright's directly. My first direct contact with the company was because of a complaint in relation to one of their so-called 'Senator' patterns. Considering its place at the top-end of their range, I thought it rather poorly made, and the stag totally lacked character o_O

AW WB Stag Lambsfoot 1-1S.jpg

They apologised, offered to make me a new knife, and I subsequently received this :)

There's a whole thread on the Ettrick pattern, which I'm sure you'll find of interest - https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/what-is-the-definition-of-ettrick.1119303/ :)

Stunner!

YES!

Every kid should have a Uncle Jack!

What's the wooden toy? Any toy I can possibly carve with a knife is very interesting to me.
Also, I hope the weather holds out for you and you have a wonderful hike.

Another old pic of my first Lambsfoot.

Thanks mate, the toy is a 'Snake in a Box'! :D That one operates by pushing down a wooden 'button', but I also have this one, which operates by sliding a door across.

(Old pic as I am having technical difficulties at Grumble Towers this morning o_O)

I got mine from junk shops, but they seem to be available on the internet, and I imagine could be made quite easily by a man of your competence :)

Great to see your Silent Lambsfoot! :)

Morning Guardians,

I genuinely hope that you will forgive my extended absence. Between work, work-related travel and school my weeks have been topping out around 90 hours and that leaves only the slightest amount of time for my kiddos.

I was pleased to see that both Chin and Rob enjoyed the salsas and exercised their Lambsfoot knives in the process. Keep up the good work gents; I'm looking forward to your future creations and fully expect you to outdo the original recipe!

Jack, I hope your six-month cough is doing better, and you are experiencing some relief. Your daily carry photos are a constant morale boost.

To all the Guardians and your beautiful knives, thank you for the lovely pictures that have given me brief moments of peace away from responsibilities.

Despite being busy, I was reunited with my original Lambsfoot, and it has been in my pocket nonstop. I genuinely love the way that horn ages on these knives with consecutive months of carry and use. It is indeed a thing of beauty and if the knife could talk it would tell the tale of all its use and enjoyment in it's many tasks and travels.

I did one day find the time, well I should say one week, to make a sourdough starter, create a leaven and then while writing papers enjoy brief breaks ultimately producing two delicious loaves of french bread. Of course none of it possible without the original Lambsfoot.

Have a fantastic weekend Guardians. I should be back around on a regular basis in roughly another month.

Great to see you here pal, but sorry to hear you're so busy  Looking forward to seeing more of you soon  As usual, those are fantastic photos, great Lambsfoot content, and your bread looks wonderful. I love bread, and realised last night, I'd eaten something like seven different kinds of bread in the previous 24 hours! :D Called in at a great local bakery yesterday :)

My cough is a little better thanks, though I still have it :( The doc reckons it's being caused by 'silent reflux' irritating my throat, and gave me some more meds about 3 weeks ago. We'll see

Jack gave me one of those. A little bigger in the pocket, but a little extra panache to it also, I think.

I finally tracked down a source that ships to the US and tried one of these generic stainless "real lamb foot" knives out. I was surprised at how comfortable the larger handle is, I think the amount of taper in width of the handle has something to do with this. I agree that it is a bit big in the pocket, but stainless makes it great for carrying in the truck or having in a tool or tackle box.

The longer handle, extra sway and flaring handle would make it very well suited for trimming hooves one would think. The stainless blade would also be a plus in animal care situations.

It's been a while since I've seen these for sale anywhere, but they tend to be sold in hardware stores and garden centres here. I've gifted quite a few of them to friends, and everyone I've ever given one to seems to be really pleased by the pattern

Been running around like a crazy person the last few weeks and haven't been on the site. Figured I'd say hello and wish all the guardians well while I have a second.

This one's still riding with me a day or so every week.

Great to see you :) And that gorgeous Guardians Lambsfoot :)

Struggling to catch up this morning! :D

Some of you may remember this knife, I used to carry it all the time, and was the first example of the beautiful Wright's horn I got. My Guardians Lambsfoot kicked it out of my pocket, but I thought I'd carry it again today :) Have a fab Sunday Guardians :)

It's nearly the weekend folks, so here's something for you to mull over :) The Guardians thread is coming up to 250 pages, with nearly 5000 posts! Who'd a thunk it?! To say thanks to those of you who have helped to get us here, I'd like to propose a giveaway, which will hopefully appeal to you Guardians :)

The first stage in the production of a Lambsfoot knife at A.Wright & Son is that the basic shape of the Lambsfoot blade is stamped out a sheet of steel, by hand, with an ancient foot-operated press (that's a traditional cutler's three-legged stool there).

View attachment 886895

Here's a selection of the blanking tools, which are used.

View attachment 886896

I thought the leftover strips of steel looked very cool, and asked if I could have one, which I have framed on my living room wall. Here it is, used as a background for a photo of one of my knives (they're each about a foot long).

View attachment 886897

I subsequently got another couple of the strips. I sent one to Charlie waynorth waynorth , and I have another, which I thought a Lambsfoot enthusiast might treasure, like I treasure mine. So that's the prize. If you just think it's a piece of junk, don't worry, I won't be offended! :D

The giveaway is open to anyone with more than 5 posts in this thread prior to this one. Please make it clear you're in, and post a photo of yourself with a Lambsfoot knife. Or, if you're shy, you can post a pic with the knife (or knives) with your dog, kids, house, car, or whatever. But something personal please :) I hope this is of interest anyway, I'll draw it next Friday. Good luck everyone, and thanks again :)

Jack

Thought I'd let this run another couple of days...

OK, I completely forgot!

I'd expected more interest in this, but thanks to the few of you who entered, and for your generosity...There is one clear winner...Congratulations Ron Half/Stop Half/Stop :) :thumbsup

Ron, I'll get your prize off to you this week my friend :)

Thanks Jack, Just to update,I have a new ebony Lambs Foot being shipped Monday, from the dealer.
Regarding the Ettrick, I went through the thread, and found it quite informing, the ET has a interesting history.
I have to admit, I really like this little fella, I'm thinking I might need a back up, just in case. :D

Thank you Jack and many thanks to all the Guardians that so graciously volunteered me to be the recipient of this GAW prize! I will certainly show photos of the strip when I get it on display. :) I didn't post here yesterday, it was a quite busy day. This Sambar Stag was with me yesterday and I see no reason that it won't be again today! I certainly hope all of my fellow Guardians have had a wonderful weekend! :D

When I lived in Beaconsfield back in the 90's, it was very difficult to find folding knives of any kind for sale. Occasionally, The Old Tool Store would be encountered with some interesting stock, but seldom if any new folders. The less stout springs on these seem to make them a good choice for those with weaker nails or fingers, I may get a few to give as gifts as well.

That looks like a nice place for a hike, Jack! Glad the weather cooperated for you, too.

For a second there I thought they had invited you back behind the counter and let you climb up on a bread rack to take a photo. :D

Thanks Barrett, it's a lovely section of river and canal, with lots of evidence of the weaving industry which once thrived in that area. It's surrounded by high moors and hills, which make for an equally good tramp in fine weather :)

LOL! I'm not sure they'd have a bread rack that would hold me! :D
