Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

And it is totally true, Jack. That's the reason I ended up retiring from the Navy a few years ago. I was never going to get the time back that I was away from my family for so long and wanted the chance to make the most of the time I have left with my kids before they graduate and move out.
Good for you my friend :) I rarely saw my father as a kid, and when I had kids myself, I was determined they weren't going to have the same experience :) Fortunately, I was an outdoor writer throughout their childhood, which allowed me to spend plenty of time with them :) I used to tell folks that the pay wasn't great, but the holidays were fantastic! :D

Nice to see a few new folks attracted to the Lambsfoot :) They have a special magnetism ;)

In my pocket again today

It happens fast, too fast. I didn’t choose to be a teacher so I could have summers off, but I did choose not to work a second job in the summer so I could spend the time with our family. My wife is in education also so we were both able to spend time together and with our kids. Wouldn’t trade a moment of it for any job or amount of money. 👍

I’m sure your family is very thankful for that time now, even if they weren’t at the time.

Todd, you and sbh06 sbh06 bring up some stuff that hits close. Though they don’t listen I tell the junior guys at work to prioritize education so that if their life circumstances change they have the ability to pivot. I wish I had. I didn’t and now I live 1000 miles away from 2 of my kids, and I still have 4 years to go until I can retire out of the Coast Guard.

Well, just keep planting those seeds Jon. It may seem like they aren’t listening, and some of them may not, but some will, and that’s worth it. 😊👍

I’m sorry to hear that, Jon, both the feeling of not being heard when trying to give safe advice and the situation you find yourself in with your kids. As far as trying to provide career (and life) advice goes, I tried to do the same the longer I was in, often sharing the story of how I ended up in the place I was. Some listened, some didn’t, but at the end of the day I was able to sleep okay knowing I made an effort to try and help all of the sailors on my last two subs. What they chose to do with it, like in many cases, was up to them.

As far as being so far away from your kids, I know 4 years seems like a long time, but even as far away as you are, try to find ways to be involved and show them you care. They may not outwardly show you or tell you that they appreciate it, but they do, and they will even more as time goes by and they look back at their childhood and how good a dad you were to them even if you were not in the same geographic area.

Okay, enough soapbox time, back to knives, specifically lambs. Going to go test Jack Black Jack Black magnetism theory.

I hope you get to see them soon Jon

That clip is from 2019 Jeremy, when I was photographing the Damascus SFOs. I was rather surprised to see one move of its own accord! :D How common the phenomenon is, I'm not sure ;)

Every now and then, when I'm sharpening a knife, I'll notice the edge looks fuzzy with tiny bits of swarf magnetized to the steel. Now that I'm thinking about it, I suppose that only happens on the rare occasions that I'm using the stones dry. So...something about creating a static charge from repeatedly moving the knife in the same direction? I'm still on my first cup of coffee and I didn't do so well in physics, so that's probably a different phenomenon.

Jack Black Jack Black I see your many photos and I must admit I am always entertained. Many thanks for your involvement with this site.
Good morning Guardians, and it's a good one here in NC. Played golf yesterday and going out again today - going up to the 60's and sunny. I feel fortunate to have access to so many fine courses within a 50 mile radius. Today I'll be carrying my Ebony after touching it up again. I really put it through it's paces yesterday and the day before.IMG_3393.JPG

Interesting Rachel
Cool picture, Jack. 🤠
I hope you and the rest of the Guardians are having a good day so far.
My picture server isn't working at the moment, so I'll post pictures later.
Thank you John, it's early afternoon here, and so far, so good. Looking forward to my trip to the market tomorrow :)
Good Morning Guardians
I'm going to try the Forum's picture posting software for the first time...

Thank you very much Bill, that's very kind of you :) It's great having you as one of our regulars. I'm glad that you're having a good week, and that your Lambsfoot has been enjoying plenty of use :) Cool pic

Thank you, Jack. :)
I want to like the Charlie Lamb as much as my usual Lambs... but it's hard.
Certainly the GEC version has the best F&F and it's probably the prettiest too.
But the blade angle is just not working that well in actual use when compared to my others.
That's why I'm forcing myself to carry it more to see if I can actually get used to it or not.
I know it's an unpopular opinion on the forum, that's why I am confining my thoughts to the Guardians.
But the blade edge seems to taper to the spine, instead of the other way around... like it should be.

I know exactly what you mean John, and I have the same experience
