Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

The two Jacks were very generous (as usual!!)!!
I promised better pics of this year's Guardians. It's nice to do some comparisons with a bunch of them, before some go off to live elsewhere!!
You can tell that the knives were likely hand ground from the variances in thicknesses, plunge cuts and other details. The quality seems to improve as time goes on however. Handle fits were all good with very minor edges felt, probably due to humidity differences, although we are not too different from Yorkshire here!
I am amazed at the consistency in the joints - I couldn't tell any difference in the walk and talk! All nice and firm the way I like them - a good 7 pull right across the board.
Also a burr right across them! All except one on the pile side of the edge. A few strokes on a very fine hone corrected the one Ebony I am going to keep.
Keep working on it, Wright & Son!!
Nice knives, Jack and Jack!!:)

Finally did it today. Not for nothing, but once I got to grinding, this thing was THICK, and somewhat inconsistently so along the edge. I got a finish on it that I really like. Also cut a rather ample sharpening choil, and gave it a vicious tip. Put a shaving edge on it, and probably going to carry it every day for a while. I'm going to take some better pictures later in the evening when the light isn't so stark.

Looking forward to seeing more of that one

Great to see those together Charlie, thanks for the extra pics :) I'm glad Wright's still grind their blades by hand, but find it incredible really. Excellent feedback my friend

Thanks for everyone's contributions :) Bearing in mind that nearly 30 members have recently received one or more Lambsfoot knives, I'm surprised the thread hasn't had more traffic (found it on page 2 today) :(

For Black Friday ;)

I have read lots of comments about how dark the ebony should be. To me, this is extremely dark. It is also incredibly smooth and silky.

I also want to mention the action. This knife has a superbly strong spring and snaps open with authority. It makes the knife feel very safe in use.

Jack Black Jack Black , please inform the young man who made our knives how impressed we are with his work. The positive feedback should make him even more proud of his art and encourage him to keep improving.

Have a great weekend everyone.

My ‘18 Guardian’s Knife arrived today, after being lost at sea. A fine example Jack and thanks a ton for making these available.

Glad it reached you HST, I was getting a little worried as the tracking indicated its delivery on the 5th  Glad you like it :) Postal times have varied this year, even where the knives were posted on the same day  Poor dc50 dc50 is still waiting on his :(

I’m putting this thread back on page one. Part of my carries for this Saturday is one of my 2018 Ebony’s. Hopefully everyone will have a great weekend! :)

That is one beautiful dark black handle! Also your on target, with positive feedback to the young fellow that made the knives. Sometimes that's all it takes to encourage one, to become a master in his or her trade.

Everyone needs a Philatector!!
Are there any watermarks on that nice Stag, Jack??
:)

I took the bevel down to around 17 dps, it's just right now, I'll echo earlier comments regarding the pull, its very consistent on both knives at a nice 7 ish pull, very solid lockup. Great job by the craftsman and by Jack:thumbsup::thumbsup:

The key ring is a small twist from the water powered forge at rhe Abbeydale Hamlet world heritage site near Sheffield. Thanks Jack!

Thanks Jack! The tulip poplar from which the leaf came is our favorite tree.

That's nice :)

That's interesting Rob, I tried one of mine at 15 DPS, but I think I'm going to take it back a bit again

Here's a pic of the forge where your twist was made, on the day it was made. The guy who made it is on the right in the second pic

Thanks for the pics of the forge Jack:thumbsup::thumbsup: I'll try it at 17 dps for a bit, it sure took a good razor sharp edge:thumbsup:

I like that big anvil:eek:
That's nice :)

You're welcome Rob, be interested to hear how you get along with it :) Yes, the steel is good, and a Lambsfoot is very straightforward to sharpen

There are many bigger anvils there :) Here's one from the forge next door, feller there was making pocket knives. It's an amazing place to visit if you ever get a chance

Speaking of anvils, here's a Lambsfoot at the remains of Mousehole Forge, arguably the most historic anvil forge in the world

I'll let you know how I get along with it Jack. I just opened a clam shell container for my wife, unzipped it easy peasy:thumbsup:
Awesome forge pictures  I love old anvils and checking out old forges. Hopefully I can get over there someday and visit some of the historic spots, we'll have a pint when I make it over
