Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I'll let you know how I get along with it Jack. I just opened a clam shell container for my wife, unzipped it easy peasy:thumbsup:
Awesome forge pictures  I love old anvils and checking out old forges. Hopefully I can get over there someday and visit some of the historic spots, we'll have a pint when I make it over

That would be fantastic Rob, I'd be honoured to show you around :)

Oh man great photos of the Forge Jack!
Charlie - what a line up of beauties!!

Jack that Orange Horn is simply Spectacular my friend- LOVE seeing that Knife!

Thanks a lot my friend, you must have quite a collection of Lambsfoot knives yourself now Duncan :)

Dang it Jack, You had a nice hike! Is that a castle in the background? Sheep, pasture and of course the complementary cool one.:thumbsup:
Can't wait till I get my ebony, then I can go out for a beer!:p

Jack Black Jack Black looks like you had a splendid hike! Thanks for sharing your hike pics with us.

The new Guardian's Lamsfoot developed a a little patina while helping me make some carnitas today.

I took the bevel down to around 17 dps, it's just right now

That's interesting Rob, I tried one of mine at 15 DPS, but I think I'm going to take it back a bit again

Interesting. I haven’t put my own edge on my 2018 Guardians Lambsfoot yet, but I have my other two at about 13 DPS. I tend to like an acute edge, and haven’t had any problems with mine rolling.

Jack, I’m curious why you’re thinking of goong back up.

Thanks pal, hope you get your ebony this week, we can't have you going thirsty! That's Harewood House (https://harewood.org/), where the posh folks up the road live ;) There is a castle, but it's a ruin, and older (14th century): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harewood_Castle

Very tasty! :)

Really glad, that's very interesting to hear. I haven't had any problem at 15 DPS, but I've always found the edges OK with a less acute angle. I have to say that I didn't do a great job of re-profiling that particular knife, which perhaps has coloured my opinion, and I don't use my knives as much as you do Greg. Maybe I'll stick with it

Really like the covers on that first knife my friend !!!!! I assume the first picture is of your Summer Home .

Thanks a lot Harry, I'm afraid I can't even afford the price of admission! :D ;)

Hope everyone had a great weekend :) I'm pocketing my ebony Guardian again today (the big house in the distance) :)

Great pics and posts all.:)

FBC, your ebony Guardian's looking dang fine, and those delicious looking carnitas are making me hungry!:)

Jack, great pics of your hike and knives in the sunny countryside. What river is that? And are those buzzards?

Here's another from my recent trip out west.

And a nice crisp, refreshing lager at the Forrest Brewing Co in a small timber town along the way.

Can't believe I haven't been on duty with my fellow Guardians for almost a week! Here's a feeble effort to catch up before breakfast.

I made my weekly trip down to my USA PO box, and there waiting for me was a Surprise Package - from the Big Apple!! Thanks @mrknife for a fine pair of Lambfoot knives!!
I did not expect these at all; nicely selected, and perfect action with good fit and finish!!
A tribute to Jack Black's persistent oversight of Wright's I am sure!!:D

Nice black, musical instrument-grade Ebony, and well-figured Buffalo Horn - how good can it get???:)

It gets even more charming if that is possible!! I ordered a few knives from Jack, but he counts differently than I do!! I owe him some coins!!!

I will take some more detail pictures, but right now I am stunned!! Between the two Jacks I am overwhelmed!!
Congratulations, Charlie!:cool::cool::thumbsup: Looks like lambing season in the Pacific Northwest; you're accumulating lambs foots by the dozens!!;) The two Jacks are handing out lambsfoot models like candy - well done, Jacks!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Looks like you have quite a variety in your flock, Charlie!:thumbsup::cool:

My ebony guardian lambsfoot showed up today.
Excellent work on this one!

My ‘18 Guardian’s Knife arrived today, after being lost at sea. A fine example Jack and thanks a ton for making these available.

I have read lots of comments about how dark the ebony should be. To me, this is extremely dark. It is also incredibly smooth and silky.

I also want to mention the action. This knife has a superbly strong spring and snaps open with authority. It makes the knife feel very safe in use.

Jack Black Jack Black , please inform the young man who made our knives how impressed we are with his work. The positive feedback should make him even more proud of his art and encourage him to keep improving.

Have a great weekend everyone.
More lambs arriving!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup: Congratulations, Guardians @strokednbored , @herder , @HST , and @Leslie Tomville !! Thanks for showing them off here! ;):thumbsup::cool:

...
Great pic of your flock GT, but that's disturbing to hear about the horn changes, I hope they weren't dramatic and can be reversed
... If you've not already done so, I really recommend checking out the indexed posts on this subject

LOL! If I'd known it was going to get an extended life, I'd have spent more than a couple of seconds on it my friend! :D

Thanks for the compliments GT :) That's a coincidence, though I don't know the difference between the models. Mine was a Christmas gift, I used to use a Canon Ixus before. I keep thinking of buying an SLR-type camera, but I'm not sure I'd want to lug it around with me, and like always having one of the compacts in my bag or pocket

Thanks for the feedback GT, and for the photographic treat :) What you say about the edge on your older Rosewood model, did it come from the factory?
...
Thanks for your concern about my horn lambsfoot, Jack. The changes were noticeable, but not dramatic, and I've been grateful to read about other Guardians' experiences with changes in horn in this thread. (Looking for relevant posts was my first use of Greg's excellent index back in January.:))

Interesting camera content. Portability is paramount for me, I think. If I ever change from a point-and-shoot, it would be because I actually upgrade to a smart phone with acceptable photo capabilities.

My rosewood lambsfoot has the factory edge, I think. It's the knife my family got for me in the York hardware store, and I assume they sold it "as is" from Wrights. All I've done is occasional tune-ups on a ceramic candy dish lid or a leather strop with Flexcut Gold compound.

I've been carrying my 2018 Guardians Lambsfoot in ebony since I first got it, but a few of you might have noticed an absence of horn? Well, it wasn't because I was too stingy to buy one, in fact I bought two, but while sorting through the knives, I noticed that one of them had a slightly damaged blade. I found it very difficult to photograph, but the spine is quite badly deformed. It looked like it had been caught on the edge of a wheel in several places, and it really should have been scrapped at that stage. Anyway, I thought I'd better jump on the grenade, but I will be taking it back to Wright's. I'm hoping they'll remake it, but it may end up looking quite different to what it does now, something like one of last year's Midnight Specials

Sorry to hear about the problems with that knife. :(

Gary I have quite a lot of experience USING a Lambsfoot! I use one everyday, as I keep one on my end table to open all of my mail and packages etc. Because a knife doesn’t have Patina obviously doesn’t mean it’s not being used! ;)
Yeah, I'm sometimes guilty of mistakenly and selfishly thinking that everyone has (or ought to have) the same knife experiences, preferences, uses, attitudes, and goals as I do. (And since I sometimes become frustrated when others take that viewpoint, I'm guilty of hypocrisy, too.)

Agreed Jack! The polish holds up quite well! :)

Thanks for finding these beautiful knives for me, Jack Black!!

Beautiful day for a hike and splendid pictures !

Thanks Rob, we've been lucky with the weather here recently

Jack, great pics of your hike and knives in the sunny countryside. What river is that? And are those buzzards?

Thank you my friend :) The Harewood Estate was landscaped by Capability Brown (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capability_Brown), so that river has probably been augmented or is purely artificial. It flows into a man-made lake at one end, but I haven't explored further the other way (in the direction of the camera). The estate is still privately owned, with only very limited free access. Close by though is the River Wharfe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Wharfe). The birds are Red Kites (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_kite), which until recently were rare here and considered endangered, but a very successful breeding programme (including one based at Harewood), has completely changed things. I now see them all the time, and over the past six months one flew over my house several times a day (they are large enough to change the light, so you notice). Unfortunately, the last time I saw it was a few weeks ago, when it was being mobbed by crows :( It was nice yesterday, drinking a p[int, and watching about a dozen Red Kites soaring in the air above the pub :)

My pleasure Ron, how're you finding that one?

Great photos Jack, especially of the....Red Kites??
Been to Harewood House three times. Didn't know there's a castle

qfJLv9X.jpg

Thanks David, I took loads of pics of the Kites, but they were still quite distant and moving fast. Spectacular birds to watch though, particularly when there's a few of them :) The easiest way to get to the castle is from behind the cafe in the village hall, not far from the old chapel. It overlooks the Leeds-Harrogate road. In the woods on the other side of the River Wharfe there are the remains of the fortification which pre-dated the castle, there's not much to see, but you can see where it was

Thanks for the link to all the castles Jack. I have spent the better part of the morning checking them out. Sure would love to visit England and Scotland someday.
