Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

We walked on, passing one of the vertiginous (and very grotty) flights of steps, which climb the hill. Like rock-climbing photos, the ground never looks anywhere near as steep as it does in reality!

We also called in at the Maritime Museum, of which I neglected to get a photo :( It was very small, but we left them a donation anyway. Sadly, the Lifeboat Museum, run by our volunteer lifeboat institute, which was previously nearby, and which I've been visiting since I was a kid, is no longer there :(

At the bottom of the hill though, is the street's best known shop, and somewhere I would always visit, before being dragged back uphill by my parents or grandparents

We were now down at the 'promenade', and though many of the businesses were also closed, we could at least see the sea. Scarborough is still a working fishing port

One of the few shops open was selling Ukrainian flags, and we saw plenty more throughout the day

Still unfed since our cake, we decided to share some chips to keep us going. This was a 'LARGE' (£3) portion! And they were rotten 😐

Here's a couple for JohnDF JohnDF ! :D :)

Even as a kid, I never liked hard rock (candy), but these disgusting-looking plates have always made me laugh! :D It was only when I was about to crop the photo that I noticed what was in the corner! :D Looks like I missed out! ;)

While sellers of legitimate, good quality slipjoints are terrorised and intimidated by the authorities here, most British towns usually have a tatty shop which sells an odd combination of garbage weaponry and cannabis parephenalia  I did take some pics, which included a very poor rendition of a certain Klingon implement, but suffice to say, they don't stock Lambsfoot knives! I suspect ancient warriors will be turning in their graves

At the end of the 'prom', we chose an easy ascent to go in search of a pub! :)

Easy choice! ;)

Not a great pub, but my first pint since March 1st :) Came from a brewery in the Orkney Islands

But with snow coming down, we decided to head back to Leeds before snowflakes blocked the line

In Leeds, the weather was different, but equally rotten

Was the Doctor around? Did you see Him/Her/They?
Super pictures, Jack. ;)

I was going to comment further, but due to lack of staffing, my mind is "CLOSED" 🤣
But seriously, I really enjoyed the tour. Probably the best pictoral tour we've seen. Thank you for that.
It must have been frustrating to see all those places closed, but it looks like you managed to have a good birthday all the same.

A pint and a Barlow…A welcome respite.🐑🍺

That’s the spirit.🫠

Thank you Jack.

Love the images of your market images. Think of that first warm, Sunny day. Double Lambs is a good thing.

Good Morning Guardians
Thank you very much my friend :) That's a great image, love the jigging

Thanks mate, Rachel actually told me to take that one for you! :D

LOL! :D It was weird, but not as weird as the time I went to Poland, only to find the whole country closed! It has happened to me twice in France too  In Poland, we had already been driving since the previous day, and wondered whether we should have breakfast in Germany, or in Poland. Mistakenly, we chose the latter, but everywhere was closed, and the streets deserted! We had no idea what was going on, but had to drive right across Poland, almost to Russia, without anything to eat, it was like a zombie movie! When we arrived in Bialystok, in the late afternoon, our friend told us it had been a national holiday to do with WW2, but it was certainly very keenly observed  He joked that it was to celebrate Poland beating the Nazis, but we had only just got out of the car when 2 skinheads sieg-heiled at us! o_O 😡

My girlfriend had asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday yesterday, and as I haven't been to the coast for a few years, I said that's what I'd like to do :) Rail fares have gone crazy here, I doubt there's a country in the world which has more expensive public transport than here, and so to save a few quid, I booked the tickets 2 weeks in advance, and bought an Over 60's Railcard, which gave me a 30% discount. Still came to £50 for a 140 mile round trip! When I booked the tickets, we were in the midst of spring, but then winter returned with a vengeance yesterday!

Our destination was Scarborough, a thoroughly unpretentious, old-fashioned, Yorkshire seaside town, for my birthday beano yesterday. I don't know if they knew I was coming, but it was closed!
Thank you for the epic journey that you took us on, Jack, though it may not have always felt that way to you. At least you didn’t have to fight the crowds.🙃 Rest up..🥱

That's true Harvey :) I'll have to dig out some photos from the last time I was there, think I was carrying my Unity Lambsfoot :)

Thanks buddy :) 👍

Jack, thank you for sharing your trip to Scarborough with us. I really enjoyed your photos, and I hope you had a great time… even though 75% of town was closed! 🙄

That’s funny, Jack, I got to that last photo and immediately thought of that scene from The Joker… then scrolled down and saw the last part of your post! 🤣

I hope you had a nice time, Jack, even though the weather was rotten and so many shops were closed.
To get up and down the steep hillside, the inventive Victorians had the idea of building tramways, or funicular railways, which run up and down the cliff. There were several, even in my lifetime, but now only one tram is still in working condition.
In Pittsburgh, those are called Inclines, and I believe there are two still in use. I once saw a bit of film from the early 1900s of people and horses riding one, but I can't seem to find it on youtube.

Looking good Pete! :)
Looking sharp!
Thanks Harvey, Rachel caught me while I was crouching to take a photograph :D

LOL! I'm surprised some enterprising Scarborough resident hasn't re-created it! 🤣 It'd be a great advert for the Joke Shop :D

Thanks Rachel, it was nice to have a change, and a midweek trip out :) That's fascinating  I've often wondered about the size and lay-out of the Scarborough ones, which have a large interior, with benches along the sides, and I imagine they took horses on there too
Loved the pictures Jack, thanks for sharing them.
The tramway pictures reminded me of the Incline railway we have here in Chattanooga
Incline-22-605x570.jpg
Wow, that's amazing, great pic! What a magnificent piece of engineering  I think the only other place I have been on that type of railway is Lugano in Switzerland, but they are pretty expensive

I had to filch that photo, as I made the trip without a camera!

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is doing OK, and that you've had a good week :) Thanks again for all your kind words :) It's snowing outside, but I'm hoping to meet up with my pal, as usual. He has to stay in for a delivery, so we're going to have a coffee at his house, then take the dog for a walk, and maybe have some fun with our slingshots :D Have a good day Guardians

I thought I'd have a change today
