Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

My only concern would be if the stag isn't nice and solid throughout, you could expose some pith. I'd be inclined to just round down the corners, and see if that makes it more comfortable in hand. I did this on an ebony lambsfoot and removed a pretty small amount of material to make a big difference.

Not only does it look more comfortable but to my eyes it looks better as well! Good job !

Good morning, Guardians. Been a while since I've posted here. My work/family demands tend to override the forum and this thread moves way too fast for me! Still, I occasionally stop by to see what everyone is toting for the day.

If you haven't entered my GAW yet, it's open until Saturday! Jack Black Jack Black was gracious enough to let me purchase two of these at the time, but I wanted to let someone else have a crack at it and hopefully the winner will enjoy it just as much as I know most of you here do. The one up for grabs is on the bottom.

Regarding sanding down stag..... I did that with one of mine a few years back, but just enough to remove the scratchy brown part, left the antler grooves and was very careful around the pins. If you're going to sand it, I wouldn't go too crazy, and beware those pins!

It has aged a bit since these pics, stag shrank a little bit and I need to sand the liners to match, but still a beauty!

Here's some of the others from the 2019 run
Pleasant memories, Jack. I remember your stalwart efforts. I appreciate that as much as the knives.
If you don't get to like the knife, members like glennbad glennbad or J jsdistin will do you a great re-cover
Your trio of Lambs is a testament to their crafttsmanship,
Thought I'd carry this J jsdistin Giraffe Bone re-cover today.
So beautiful. I love the red on the bottom of the haft, Jack.
delicious, but somewhat miniscule, Spanish lemon cheesecakes 😋;)
Yummy!
Good Morning Guardians
Every year it gets harder and harder to return to work after a vacation.
That's how I know I'm getting ready to retire. I used to get excited to return to work, but now... Not so much. 🤣
Retirement has its’ challenges, but it can be one of the experiences of your life. Here’s to yours being a great one, John. Fine image of your Lambfoot.
I'm afraid there probably won't be anymore
🥲

Forgive my ignorance here but how do I need to enter the GAW draggat?

They do look like they make a decent knife, at a good price as well.

I remember someone else doing that around the same time as you did yours Rachel. I thought about doing the same to one of mine, and I might one day, but I really don't find the original uncomfortable. I was looking at the same difference between a couple of Barlow knives earlier, and I like both. I do consider the un-rounded covers more traditional I think, not because they're better or anything, just because that's how they seem to have been done, which was probably simply just because they could be finished easier and faster like that. It's a good-looking mod though, for sure, and I seem to recall it had some definite practical benefits for you :)

Edit - Oops! I meant to show this J jsdistin mod with African Blackwood

Thanks guys. I didn't think it looked bad before, but the corner edge was hitting a nerve in my palm of my hand. It feels much better now!
That's it!

It's great to see you here my friend :) Once again, thank you for running such a generous giveaway :) Great photo of that brace of Barlows :D  Your albino stag Lambsfoot is more attractive than I would have guessed, nice work :)
Pleasant memories, Jack. I remember your stalwart efforts. I appreciate that as much as the knives.
Thank you very much Harvey, I'm grateful :)
Your trio of Lambs is a testament to their crafttsmanship,

So beautiful. I love the red on the bottom of the haft, Jack.
Thanks again buddy :) Apparently, tarmac roads have not been good for the African giraffe. They can out-run predators across the bush, but their hooves skate on the slick tarmac, so apparently, lions and jackals wait to ambush them at the roadside, and collecting giraffe bone is a simple matter of driving along the right tarmac road, where they may be found scattered in ample numbers
:)
Good Morning Guardians
That's very interesting Harvey, do you think it has been modded? I'm quite fascinated by it, and would love to see more  Your wonderful photo really shows off the flat-cap jigging  Who is the maker, if I may ask? You certainly have some great finds my friend :)

Thank you Jack. I’ll post images this afternoon. I believe it’s a J K Potter. I’ll leave it to your judgement as to whether it’s a true Lambfoot or a mod.

Thanks Harvey :) It's certainly very unusual to see a Lambsfoot on a Sleeveboard Penknife, but from your photo, it doesn't look like a mod, unless it's a very old one. Re-profiling the tip would be fairly simple, but altering the whole blade would take a fair amount of work

Thank you sir !! I forgot to add the quote to the first response .

That stag looks great polished like that! I have always liked the looks of polished stag , especially when there isn’t much bark left on ! To me it looks almost ivory like and it ages so well!
