Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good morning Guardians, just a quick post from me this morning. I managed to lose my wallet last night, just a small wallet, with a couple of £20 notes and a couple of cards, but I need to go into town to sort the cards out. At least I didn't lose my Lambsfoot. Have a good day everyone, I'll catch up with you all later
That's a bummer... sorry to hear about you losing your wallet.
Hope you can get it sorted out without too much hassle.

Tough break on the wallet, Jack, and good fortune on sorting out the exigencies. Still getting to know my new heartthrob, the #88.

Good morning Guardians! Today I decided to carry this large lambsfoot with horn covers. They are fairly atrocious. They have shrunken and cracked in two places on the mark side, oddly enough, not on the pins, but you can see them on either side of the pin at the butt end, with one going near the center pin. I have a few sets of really good looking ironwood burl blanks that I'm considering sending off to one of our modders to replace these with, but carrying it today just to get a better feel of the knife.

Hope you all have a great day!

That looks bad Steve, any idea what caused the issue? Usually, shrinking is due to atmospheric issues, (eg hot dry conditions), but as I once found out, after leaving a couple of knives on my coffee-table in the sun, horn can shrink/peel pretty fast. That'll happen even with horn that is a hundred years old. Properly humidified, shrunken horn will usually return to how it was, but cracks are there forever I guess. I think there are a number of posts about this issue in the thread index, linked to in post #1. At one time, cutlery manufacturers seasoned their horn prior to use, and the large manufacturers probably had knowledgeable workers looking after it, but seasoning doesn't routinely happen with small firms like Wright's, who generally buy horn as cheap as possible, and don't keep stocks. I was lucky to get some well-seasoned horn for the 2017 Guardians SFO, but it had been in stock for a while because it was expensive horn, and other customers didn't want to pay for it.

You turned to Duncan and said: “Welcome to Sheffield.”😂
Yes indeed, that was just my thought at the time! 🤣 Duncan, and his wife Sue, had only been in Sheffield half an hour. I was just telling Duncan about the history of the bridge, and he was taking photos, or possibly even recording video, when this fat drunk strode over the bridge, and into Duncan's shot, and without pausing, lobbed the empty can into the river. Duncan's first thought was that he had done it deliberately, to spoil his shot, but I don't think the drunk had even seen him, he was too busy heading to the next pub or beer shop
Cool T. The pub looks like a nice place to hang with fine friends and Lambfoot, Jack.
Thanks Harvey, it's rare that I get out for a pint with my mate, he has 3 kids, a demanding wife, and until a couple of weeks ago, worked two jobs, so it was nice to catch up with him :)
Good Morning Guardians
Handsome TEW Harvey :) I'm glad your pic isn't wood 'n' steak, or Lucy would be getting upset! :D ;)

This week is my first week back in the office full time after over two years of nearly all telework. WCLF accompanied me today and helped me prepare for a retirement lunch we had for a departing coworker.

That must have been quite a dramatic return Jeremy, it's a long time to be away from your place of work, and your co-workers. I don't envy you the commute though, even though it is a relatively short one :) Fine-looking Lambsfoot there buddy :)
That might be the best-looking Lambsfoot that has ever carried the M. May tang-stamp Pete
Forgot i had this, with a lot of new Porchonians joining in here, some of the issues are around hard pulls. This is really good for oiling the joints. It's designed to clean build up in air tools and stop corrosion. A couple of drops in the joint, let it sit and run through, the amount of gunk that comes out is amazing. It is not expensive, and has a nifty little drop dispenser built in. Can also be used for a myriad of other things as well. Good stuff, and does not gum up.

That looks like really interesting stuff Leon, thanks for the tip mate  I usually just use WD40, but I'll see if I can get hold of some of that. Definitely always worth flushing out the joint of a freshly-made Lambsfoot (not that I have any plans to buy any)
Sorting out lost cards can be a nightmare. That is why i don't and never have carried a wallet. Hope you get it sorted out mate without too much drama. 😖
Thanks mate, fortunately it was just a small card wallet, with a bank card, travel pass, and 2 'back-up' £20 notes. I usually just carry notes in a secure pocket, and was only carrying a bank-card because none of the bars where I was going with my mate take cash (as it turned out, he paid on his card, and we split the tab). It was a pain having to go into town, but ordering a new bank card was much easier than replacing the travel pass 😖 I've returned several lost wallets over the years, and since I know where I lost the wallet, and have reported it, I guess there's a slim chance it might yet turn up 🙄
Sorry to hear about you losing your wallet. Hopefully someone who is honest will find it and return it to you. Getting you cards attended to can be distressing. Best of luck getting your wallet and cards and money back.

Good morning Guardians,
Going to the dentist this morning nice and early. Nothing serious. Also, I am carrying my senator today.

Thanks Bill, good luck at the dentist  I need to go myself  Good-looking choice

Hope everyone is having a good day. I'm off out with another friend tonight, and we're going to the cinema. No chance of losing my wallet ;) Hanging onto my AC

Thanks a lot John, nice pic of your Loyal Lamb ;)

Thanks Jeff, I very rarely lose anything, so while it wrankles, I guess I'm not too unlucky in that respect  Cool photo of your #88 :)

I must agree with you. Sorry about what happened with the knife. I guess that I might try to get along with it but in the end I would have new scales installed.

Thank you, Jack. I must admit I’m rather impressed with this one. I’ll take a few detailed pictures and post them up here this evening
Nice idea Pete :) I must say, it's VERY different to most of the other 'M. May' knives that have been posted here I think, so much so that I wonder how much he actually contributed :D ;)

Thanks Gary, appreciated my friend :) I guess it's just one of the hassles of modern life. With the increase in card payments, and subsequent card losses, they didn't even bat an eyelid at the bank, I guess it must happen all the time

Sorry to hear about your wallet, Jack. Hopefully that is the low point of your day and it improves from there, including getting replacements for the cards that were lost.

It’s been smooth, as the job itself lends to good relationships within our organization. Also helps that there are less than 20 people in our office. Side note, I came in for some training here in our office a few weeks ago and there were some English gentlemen that participated supporting the British Navy, with one in particular that I got to know that was from Gloucester.

I apologize for the recycled pic, but I have Skoll along with me today.

Thank you very much Jeremy :) That's a nice story, I'm glad it's going well :) It's good to see Skoll
It sure is nice seeing you post more often, Kevin. 🤠
+1 :)

I recently posted about a small bottle of Polish vodka a friend gave me - it tasted absolutely awful! :D

24ADEZa.jpg

Well, I'm glad I didn't tip it down the sink, because it may have come in useful :D I purchased a Barbour jacket about 3 or 4 years ago, thinking I had 'a jacket for life', as they say (and bearing in mind the price). That turned out to be a false promise as these garments are really not what they used to be, with many now being made overseas :( My pal with the tool stall thought that I had been ripped-off, and told me he had a brand new old Barbour in his loft I could have. He had bought it years ago, but had only worn it a couple of times. My friend brought the coat down to the market last week. It's a real old farmer style, with 'poachers pockets' on the inside :D Having been in the loft though, it smelled VERY fusty, as these waxed-cotton garments often do, so much so that I was reluctant to hang it with my other coats! :D Being as the smell is a common problem, I figured there'd be plenty of advice on the internet, and it turns out a commonly-touted solution is spraying with a 50/50 mixture of water and cheap vodka! 🤣 While in town this morning, I bought a plant mister, and we'll see if it works! Certainly a better use for that vodka than drinking it! 🤣

Excellent. A clean minimalist look of your beautiful Lambfoot, John.
I was lucky to get some well-seasoned horn for the 2017 Guardians SFO
Sigh….

Thank you Jack.🙂

No need, since 95% of the time you carry your favorite HHB.
I know where I lost the wallet, and have reported it, I guess there's a slim chance it might yet turn up 🙄
You should be good.
Thank you for your kind words Jack. I'm sorry t hear about your wallet. It sounds like you got it sorted out without too much trouble.
