I felt like carrying my sturdy Horn Big 'Un today.
That blade patina really makes your Lambfoot even more beautiful, John.

"Of hammers and files no more of their din is,
Round the door of the warehouse the workmen are ranged,
While the masters their banknotes and snug little guineas
Are counting and strutting around to get changed.
Having reckoned they ne'er stop,
But joy to the beer-shop,
where the fumes of tobacco and stingo invite;
And the oven inhabits,
A store of Welsh rabbits,
To feast jovial fellows on Saturday night."

From The Stirrings in Sheffield on Saturday Night by the cutlers' bard Joseph Mather

Really? What a brilliant name! Stingo is an old Yorkshire word for a strong beer, a pretty funny one I think, it sounds quite modern, but goes back several centuries :) When I went for a pint after my visit to Kirkstall Abbey recently, I noticed that Kirkstall Brewery are doing an 8.4% stingo now. I'm going to have to give it a try :)

Until a few years ago, some historians thought that our forebears used to drink weaker beer, an assumption made entirely on the high volumes of ale consumed. Genuine research showed that they actually drank stronger beer

I carry a Lambsfoot...
Because I like to have my steak sammiches open-faced.

P.S... My puppy (Bluey) really enjoyed that big hunk of fat in the middle. 😁
Glad to hear everybody is happy John! :D
Happy Friday’s Eve Guardians.

When I was in the market yesterday, I met a retired roofer who had painted up a bunch of old roofing slates, and was selling them as a fundraiser for Ukrainian aid charities. He asked for a fiver (£5), so I gave him a tenner, thought it was a nice idea
