Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Where've you been Ron?! ;) :D

Old thread: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/the-silence-of-the-lambsfoot.1069771/ (ended up full of Sheepsfoot pics )

Also see the index for previous mentions here

Inexpensive unbranded stainless Lambsfoot

I'd post a pic, but my internet connection just turned rotten
:p Okay okay so I had a brain fart! It happens to all of us sometimes! :D

Gee thanks Jack! I had forgotten about those! :D

This is my humble application for probational membership in the club.View attachment 947344View attachment 947345 View attachment 947346I say probational because this old girl will have to be repaired before I will sharpen or carry her. There is a big crack in the composition scale on the mark side, with a triangle that rotates on the pivot pin. You can also see how off center the blade is.
The good news is that despite some peppering, the blade looks nearly unused.

I can’t wait to be able to carry and use it - the blade shape has really grown on me after seeing the knives you all have.

Being retired has some advantages! ;) It’s overcast today so I just stepped out and took a quick comparison shot! :)

Congrats my friend . I am anxious for you to get it repaired and start using it . I think you are really going to like the overall design and enjoy using it .

Welcome to the Guardians Jeff! :) I think that TEW blade looks great, and with a bit of refurbishment, it's going to be a fantastic knife. I can't wait to see more of it

Happy to, David. Not much more to say, though. I used a bit of mineral oil to refresh the luster, as I did last year, but then decided I'd give the wood balm a try since others had discussed wax products in the past (if I'm remembering correctly). So, I applied a thin layer with my fingers and let it sit for a while to allow more mineral oil to soak in and the wax to set up a bit. Then I wiped, buffed it off with a piece of old t-shirt. Time will tell if it helps any more than leaving it untreated. In the mean time, I doubt it will cause any harm. Either way, I'll report back to the group after a while.

The balm is from recipe I found in a carving book I have. The ratio is 1 liter of mineral oil to 500 grams of beeswax. Feel free to PM me if you'd like more information.

Thanks for that Greg! I'll try that when I find some beeswax.

-David.

Very nice David :) That looks like a good pork pie :) I am just having cheese on toast (with Hendersons), but I forgot to take a pic! :D

Edit - I couldn't resist googling Appleton's! :D

I think you're right Amir Fleschwund Amir Fleschwund , that knife has all kinds of potential. Can't wait to see what you do with it. Great find

Morning Guardians,

My apologies for my absence over the past few days, I have missed you all! I've had an overseas visitor here, and have busy showing my old friend around Yorkshire, it's been a pretty hectic time. ...
Jack
Welcome back, Jack! :) I thought you might have been meeting with the US President visiting your country so the two of you could discuss lambsfoot tariffs!:p

Old pic. Today, like most days, my camera won't focus to save its life. I finally took it out back and shot it.* **

* Not really, but I'm starting to like the idea.
** Don't try this at home!
Praiseworthy pair, Jer.:cool::thumbsup: Too bad your camera has betrayed you. :(

Yeah, I've spent the past 15/16 years collecting knives, looking for the one knife that just works and feels right, the Lambsfoot is the one.

I took my 2018 Ebony Guardians Lambsfoot for its first hike today, following a steep trail (down, down, down and then up, up, up) in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

It was a nice hike and the lambsfoot was a lovely companion.
Ron, Dylan, Dave, & Greg, thanks for the great pics of your ebony lambsfoot knives!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I especially enjoyed Dave's and Greg's "Ebony at elevation" shots! ;):cool:

Superb stag photos, folks!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I've really admired the many outdoor shots involving broad green vistas that Jack has been posting this summer. Lots of nostalgia for this long-time city dweller who grew up on a farm. ;)

Entertainment plus, Joshua, Jack, and Rachel!! :p:cool::thumbsup: Lambs foots knives with kids, cats, lady bugs - can't beat that! Jack, is there some kind of design on the handle of the knife you gave that young man (peeking out from beneath his index finger)?

Hey Folks,
My first submission to this thread comes in the form of an amazing act of generosity from a forum friend (thank you so much HST).

Congrats on the handsome Wright stag senator, @Burnt Stag , and 3 cheers to @HST for his thoughtful generosity.:cool::thumbsup: The lambsfoot knife I'm carrying this week is almost identical to yours (but yours has better stag ;)) Here's my "Man Jack" that I won in a GAW by a BF member from Manchester, England:

Yesterday I treated my A. Wright Buffalo Lambsfoot to an overdue spa day. ...
but yesterday I added a bonus treatment. ...

The horn treatment is a new step for me. I am hoping that it’ll help reduce the amount of seasonal horn shrinkage that mine encounters during the dry months. I’ll report back on that later....

Thanks for the helpful size comparisons, Ron & Rachel!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have been having such a great feast for my eyes watching this Thread.
I excited to say that I had a couple of Lambsfoot Knives arrive yesterday ( waiting for decent weather to take some Photo's ).
Congrats, Duncan; hope we can see pics soon!:thumbsup::cool:

You guys and gals have definitely turned me . . . I'm workin' on joining the club!
Excellent decision, Jeff! :) I hope you get a chance to try out a lambsfoot blade ASAP!

I don't think anyone has ever expressed disappointment with the Lambsfoot blade, either here, or in any of the other threads. Certainly not that I've seen anyway. Prepare to be amazed Jeff! :D
...
If I'm being honest, it's not my favorite for food prep. I like some belly for that, but I've sliced plenty of salami and cheese on hikes when the lambsfoot was what was in my pocket and it worked just fine.
...
Jack, I don't think I expressed disappointment, but when I got my first lambsfoot, I had an experience like Greg describes. My main use of knives is food prep, and I couldn't get used to using the lambsfoot for slicing and dicing. It wasn't until my wife brought a lambsfoot back from York for me, and I recommitted to giving it a chance that I learned that a lambsfoot works best for me if I do draw cuts almost exclusively. With a blade with belly, I often use "rocking push cuts" but that's not what a lambsfoot is designed to do.
