Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

It's the first day of Diwali, the Sikh/Hindu 'Festival of Light' today, and since I live just up the road from Leeds' main Sikh temple, and within earshot of several more, it's like WW3 has started outside! :eek: Well, it's probably lasted a lot longer :rolleyes: Twenty years ago, when I first moved here, the Sikh community used to spend £1 Million on a spectacular 45 minute firework display, just at the one temple, but I don't think anyone has the money for that anymore. I usually get a perfect view of the display from my window, but it's smaller than in the past, and since Diwali is early this year, the view isn't as good because of the trees. The first time I saw it, I was amazed, sitting out on a neighbour's flat roof only 50 yards from the temple. After 20 years, I'm a bit jaded too, and I go to bed earlier these days! :D

I'm giving it up Leon. I originally set it up 20 years ago, when I used to travel a lot more, but the service has got worse and worse. When the first lockdown happened here, the manager sent the staff home, and just locked the door, not making any arrangements for the mail, informing customers, or even putting up a notice. I had a whole load of parcels go missing, and several, from members here, were returned to them, sometimes with the contents completely ruined. I couldn't even get my mail, and there was nobody taking calls or answering emails. They never took full responsibility for their incompetence, and stayed closed throughout 2020, and most of 2021. They even invoiced me during this period (though they eventually backed down)! The service has got so bad, I've only used it once or twice in the past couple of years. I got a demand from them the other day, and they've increased their rates. It's just not worth it for me, and I resent giving them a penny after they cost me a lot of money in 2020. So I'm giving it up 😕👍

Does Great Britain have a Government Mail Service or has it gone entirely into a private service?

That's too bad Jack. Back when I was stationed in Edzell, Scotland (1968 - 1970) the UK Government service was excellent and we used it to transport our mail from Edzell to Dundee for final distribution throughout the world.

It still works, most of the time Ed, but it's not like it was back then I'm afraid. The posties have to deliver loads of junk mail along with the regular mail, and are sometimes still delivering it in the early evening, even on Saturday, and sometimes Sunday. It's a badly paid job too, while the cost of postage is astronomical compared to then, when a stamp was just a few pennies ☹️👍
